Since ur developing ur NT for bball, there should be a Smart Gilas team for your football/soccer NT as well :D
(U should also bring a Serbian head coach just like Toroman for ur football team :p)

The PLDT Group is just like any other business. they're willing to fund basketball (Smart Gilas) and amateur boxing (ABAP) because we have chance to succeed in those sports. they wouldn't even invest in football because there's hardly a following in the country.

Actually you may be able to succeed more in football (relatively) because you won't face the height problem.... :)

it's not just the height.

football is one of those sports that has to be started at a very young age. give me a name of an international who first kicked a football when he was 15. nobody.

in the same manner, we don't have a footballing culture. in fact, most Filipinos think football is boring. it's no surprise that at our country's highest level of football, players have a horrendous touch on the ball compared to our ASEAN neighbors, they obviously lack match fitness whenever playing a much better footballing country, and we live and die on our foreign-based players for results.

to be fair, Filipino orphans beat Brazil 6-2 at the Street Children World Cup in South Africa early this year. that means skill-wise, Filipinos can compete with the best of the world. our kids just need venues and chances to hone their skills so they won't stop playing after they're 21.

If only the best Fil-Fors play for the Azkals, winning SEA football competitions should have been relatively easy..the De Guzman brothers, Dennis Cagara, Jerry Lucena, in-form Younghusbands, then add rock-solid Ali, super-sub Emilio, the FEU guy whose name escaped me for the moment, and Neil and Rimando as GK's..wheew..formidable..

Good luck if somedays somehow Pinoy's attention and support changed into football, just dont be like us Indonesian..
football is the golden boy of Indonesians goverment's sport even more than badminton which's already given olympic golds to our country, infact nowadays local/province goverments in Indonesia on race build Football stadiums, for example in;

a lot of players to mention...

They just pursued the modeling thing because of the rubbish events in the PFF.. But these boys can play I tell you.. They played with the UST Football team around last month and all I can say is wow.. They are really good.. Quality of skill is way ahead of the best in the Phils..

Filipinos have to improve a lot in their play.. Like, learning how to receive the ball first time and not letting it bounce or something first.. And also the basic back pass.. I noticed from the previous NTs that when they look to push forward, they don't turn back and pass the ball for more options.. Even if the defense is there, they will still push the ball..

We have good players.. A lot of them especially in the provinces..

It seems that Filipino footballers have this tendency of wanting to keep the ball in their own half of the field, as if anyone who passes the ball past the midfield line would commit a backcourt violation :D

We have a lot to learn from football. The patience in making passes, getting the ball in mid-air and not waiting for it to bounce first, developing the defense in such a way that we can defend one-on-one, not many-on-one, etc. The offense leaves much to be desired too.

we still have a long way to go only if theres a billionare/millionare out there willing to suport the team.
plenty of pinoys out there who are superb in playing this game.

havent really research on the governing body of football in the Phils, hope
its not like what BAP did to basketball :D or much worse...

Woah! I thought football was well loved in your country! Well, I think it is.. Its just that you're not into it.. Am I right or not??

But the good thing is you have classy stadiums.. In ours we don't even have flat grounds.. The ball bounces as it rolls!:D

Hope we could get that David Alaba guy..

IMO the Phils are goodvin every position.. It's a matter of getting it together.. I can see us challenging SEA soon.. Hope Bulpin is football's Toroman..

The football capital of the Philippines, Barotac Nuevo, doesn't even have a decent Footbal Stadium, much less a field.

heck, if you guys want to argue me about the statement above, don't. I'm from there.

I watched how the players of Bhutan struggled on the soggy pitch. safe to say pinoys play better when wet. ^_^

PAULINO ALCÁNTARA
PHILIPPINES / SPAIN
1896 - 1964

PERSONAL DETAILS
Full Name: Paulino Alcántara Riestra
Date of Birth: Wednesday, 7 October 1896
Place of Birth: Iloilo, Philippines
Date of Death: Thursday, 13 February 1964
Position: Forward
One of the most talented players ever to come from Asia, Paulino Alcántara was also one of the finest players in world football in the pre-Second World War era. Born in the Philippines, of mixed Filipino and Spanish parentage, he moved to Spain as a teenager and signed for Barcelona. He would go on to become one of their greatest ever players.
Alcántara made his first team debut for Barcelona in 1912, at the age of just 15, and scored a hat-trick. In a four year spell at the club, his goals helped Barcelona to two Catalan Championships and one Spanish Cup, before he returned to the Philippines in 1916 and ended up playing for two years for Filipino club Bohemians.
In 1918, Alcántara returned to Barcelona and despite initially being asked to play in defence, eventually returned to his normal forward position and became one of the most prolific strikers the game has ever seen. In his second spell at Barcelona, the club won eight more Catalan League titles in just nine seasons as well as four more Spanish Cups. Alcántara went on to become their all-time record goalscorer with a remarkable total of 356 goals in just 357 games.
Committed to studying medicine as a career, Alcántara turned down the chance to play in the 1920 Olympic Games for Spain, and his international career was very short lived. He played briefly for the national teams of both the Philippines and Spain, for whom he won five caps and scored six goals.
In 1927, Alcántara retired from football to concentrate on medicine. He did return to the game briefly in 1951 when he coached the Spanish national team for three matches, in which the team was unbeaten. Paulino Alcántara died in Barcelona in 1964, at the age of 67.

Woah! I thought football was well loved in your country! Well, I think it is.. Its just that you're not into it.. Am I right or not??

I love all sports actually...
( I play almost every-sports, but only futsal and basketball I played regulary)

I just hoping my goverment supported and financing the other sports fairly not only football,

But the good thing is you have classy stadiums.. In ours we don't even have flat grounds.. The ball bounces as it rolls!:D

you right about that stadiums thing though,
but no chance if you looking classy basketball stadium in here..

i saw that game on TV. it was just a cruel ending at Barotac Nuevo, 3-0 win against Bhutan in the mud but Tajikistan beats Brunei 4-0 on a more-maintained pitch at Iloilo City... and we don't qualify on goal difference.

it's an irony that Barotac Nuevo has produced quality players that get pirated by the Air Force, and eventually the National Team since the 70's... and yet it doesn't have a world-class pitch.

we have the same problem in Iran :D other sports only come to attention during olympics or Asian Games periods.

at least your government are building something but in Iran, they are just wasting the money (obviously IR is number 1 in wasting) and we are still using the stadium which built 36 years ago for 1974 Asian Games !!!

being on topic, i've never saw Philippines national team ! because they never competed in asian top level or second level competitions which means they are weak (sorry but this is the truth)

Football IS NOT Basketball ! 2 or 3 foreign players can't make a big change for a weak team. no way, you have to develop your own players.

So it's also true in Iran.. But your country is STRONG in this sport! Bad thing you got beaten by the Eastern Asians to the WC slot..

Yes we are still weak and is ranked 169.. But we don't play with one/two/three Fil-Fors in the starting eleven anymore.. Maybe only Emilio Caligdong could be the only homegrown talent in that 1st 11.. That could be possible.. And the youth program is looking good though some results show we are really behind other countries in the development..
