Zave Lucero is slowly becoming Magnolia's best local player. Lucero is one player that SBP must apply for FIBA exemption. He is definitely a good national team material. I think in terms of skills Lucero is better than Malonzo.

Malonzo though is more athletic.

He was. Malonzo looks slower now than Lucero when the latter was heavier and coming from injury. Lucero eventually became lighter and somewhat regained his previous mobility. Malonzo is heavy now and slow. It will take time before he gets better I think.

Watching the Ginebra - TnT game right now and I remember people saying that RJ Abbarrientos should be in the Gilas. Whenever he is the man for JC, the blur always ask for an iso.

The thing is, if he can't even defend an aging/washed Jayson Castro in iso on this game, how can he defend against other countries best guards in FIBA game.

I think his defense would still be the reason as to why he won't get to the Gilas easily even though he already plays for Ginebra.

Ginebra's small ball aint working. Abarrientos is too big of a liability on defense and Ginebra is giving up alot of size playing him together with Thompson at the same time.

I think that's one important difference between RJ and his uncle Johnny. I never heard that Johnny was a liability on defense. Despite his height he was a plus defender I think.

RHJ just owns Brownlee at this point. RHJ is the only import that Brownlee has a losing record against.

JB has been subpar since last game. And he was worse this game. The sportcasters say he is not feeling well. I hope he gets better soon.

It's not just last game. JB has lost against RHJ in two straight Governor's Cup Finals dating back 2022.

Lucero could be eligible for exemption as he started playing in Philippines at age 22 and played collegiate basketball at UP. Hopefully he secured his passport long before the cut-off age…

Aside from Lucero, I think we have several players that SBP could apply for exemption like M. Phillips, Stockton, Koon, Ballungay, Bates and even Munzon.

I think old age is slowly catching up with Justin Brownlee right now. But I don't think it's a case of JB slowing down or his hops starting to diminish significantly. I think it's more of JB easily gets tired & exhausted now than when he was younger. That's what old age can do to a player.

A tired & exhausted player would be significantly less efficient.

For aging players, stamina isn't that high on the problem list. A lot of ordinary people in their 50s can still run ultra-marathons and ironmen races.

First thing that goes with age is recovery time. Everyone in high-level sports is hurting, for older players it takes much longer to heal. And when one is hurting, everything gets affected.

Things like jumping high isn't really the problem, a lot of aging players can still be athletic. The problem is...landing. The landing hurts and takes a toll on the knees. So really, the "pain" is the problem more than the actual ability. This is why older vets usually coast in the regular season, but suddenly beast modes in the playoffs. It's because they can already see the finish line and they can tough it out.

And obviously speed also diminishes as one gets older, and not just speed but also the "brakes" or ability to suddenly stop or change direction.

The North Korean government even sent Ri to Canada to train in hopes of getting notice by scouts.

The Chito-Ri battle at the 1990 Asiad in Beijing.

Looking at it again, it's noticeable that Chito has a pretty good wingspan to go along with that wide body. He's 6'2 height is deceptive because he can play taller than he is because of that wingspan.

It's why wingspan is more important than just height. Someone asked how come Johnny A is so much better at defense than RJ. Aside from Johnny's physical strength (the guy was extraordinarily strong) he also had good wingspan which makes his height deceptive.

It's midwit to be anal about height without considering wingspan.

RHJ is in peak on his game.. he was played all 48 minutes for TNT and he's not even tired yet... JB's GOAT status in PBA in import category will be question in the future especially if RHJ will win multiple titles for TNT...

True... Lebron can even play more than 40 minutes and he's ok with that.. I guess this will be the last time ginebra will use brownlee for commissioners cup... He can still a resident import for ginebra in governor's cup but that's it already...

If I were SMC camp, I will invest more on coaches disposal than harvesting players left and right.. the reason why RSA spending more than 1 billion for their PBA participation because getting big time players who are more expensive than hiring very quality coaches that they can spend less and will give you quality results.. outside tim cone, their coaches disposal in smc camp are "tactical immatured"... They can't even bring their coaches abroad for some seminars to improve their coaching... From the start, I'm not believe that Al Chua is a very good general manager in a basketball organization.. he is only using his "power" for some reasons... Did you notice why some very good quality coaches in the Philippines doesn't go to smc camp? In a real world, SMC can easily hire the likes of Topex Robinson, Alex Compton, Goldwin Monteverde, etc... but why they can't hire those guys? or hiring foreign coaches... Long term, it will hurt more to SMC camp if they will not invest on coaches rather than harvesting players on their farm teams...

Baltazar being declared best player of the game in leading Converge to an impressive win over Blackwater. Balti seems getting better & better each game.

Arana hyperextended his knee in this game. He might not play against SMB. Defending Junemar will be a hard matchup for Balti. Let’s see how he performs. 20 pts 10 rbs 2 asrs 3 stl 2 blk. He stuffed the stat sheet.
