PBA 49th Season

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2
  • Start date Start date
it's stupid. the game is global, and everyone is waiting for the rules to merge, such as if 10 or 12 minute quarters, basket interference, zone defense, etc. PBA becomes a circus with a 4-pt shot.

And it will affect picking imports in future conferences.. teams will just hire shooters to address the advantages of 4pt rule.. what a stupid rule...

we gonna get federette, kemba walker, john wall type of imports.

Hong Kong Eastern and Singapore Slingers probably rethinking their intent to join the league as guest teams

Imagine this: our players will early shoot 4 pt at the logo to prevent defensive plays... It will prevent defensive plays because they just rack shooting 4s ... Lowpost guys such as Manuel, Cstand will be at disadvantage in this new rule...

That four point line will make our players look more like shotput athletes than basketball players.

Are they really serious to compete in FIBA and Olympics? If not, just give the duties to our B.League and KBL players.

PBA would rather rely on gimmick than addressing real issues.

We the fans resemble a hopeless romantic a la martyr nyebera. The PBA is that love of our life we can never rid ourselves of, despite of all the despicable things it does. We’re smart but love has blinded us. I lost count of the times I’ve said I’m never watching PBA ever again. Lol

This rule is a straight up disrespectful to the game. The unwritten rule is either you follow the NBA or FIBA standard. What PBA did is nothing but a trying hard decision to get noticed by the world. Well, they will get their wish, the world will laugh at what they did.

I no longer watch PBA since 2021 but still hoping for a change for the better.

If this thing flops hard, i doubt that the NBA will adopt it.

There are a few issues on the court. I'm talking about roster construction and tactics.

- Not enough teams have big centers. The only starting-caliber players at center are Japeth, CStand, June Mar, Arana, and Beau. The rest are either better at 4 or better off the bench. We need more of our better bigs at 4, like Datu, Villegas, now Balti.
- Lack of bigs may lead to wings having to play the 4 and 5. Lucero and Navarro have had to play positions other than 3. Lucero could play the 4, but Navarro's better as a 3 (shooting's suspect, but he's better defending the perimeter than the post).
- Many teams don't exactly defend the perimeter very well. Only MERALCO, Ginebra, and Mags have proven to defend the perimeter quite well, based on what I've seen them do against Bay Area.
- PnR is not a concern in the PBA, on offense and defense.

May I ask, does a 4-point line solve these issues?

I don't even know if the NBA will take a look at it. Someone probably will tell an NBA guy about it and either he will laugh out loud or be mad af for disrespecting the game.

The rule is so trash that the FIBA should do something because it is breaking the game. I do hope the FIBA will suspend the federation because of this bullshit thing.

I mean yes, unfair trades and politics? Whatever no choice but to bear with it. But something like this? Cmon man, the players are not from the Harlem Globaltrotters.

I hope someone writes to FIBA about this. And I hope they suspend the PBA/SBP.

Atleast it got people talking about the pba? God this rule is so messed up

Aside from the all star game did they even test this rule in the pba d league?

Actually, this will become an issue. It will get teams to get jumpshooting imports instead of roster construction needs, like a bigman. Our 193-201cm (6'4"-6'7") bigs might just play like bigs because there's no big import to make them move position to the 4, where our 196-201cm bigs are more suited to play.

That won't be good for Gilas bigs, where we need a combination of size and mobility at the 4 spot. We lose that if our 193-201cm bigs just play center.

Here's a YouTuber's video on how to fix the NBA. He's speaking from a viewpoint on a jumpshot-heavy NBA, though.

In the 7:25 mark, he says he doesn't want a 4-point line. It's not the solution, because the NBA became a jump-shooting league because of the analytics of the 3-point shot. If a 4-point shot is added, 25% from 4-point range is equivalent to 50% from 2 if both have the same number of attempts. Layups and dunks might be considered inefficient due to overpowering value of the 4-point shot.
