PBA 49th Season

It will kick out many home growns from the league. It has already been expanded from 5 to 7. I think compared to other countries we are so lenient with handing out citizenships to Filipino ancestry. A person can have a Filipino citizenship as long as he has an ancestor who can reclaim their citizenship then all his ancestral line will claim their Filipino citizenship until it reaches him. Seems to be weird IMO. Why not just have a regular way of obtaining citizenship like most countries do. And with the dual citizenship law, your line can be Filipinos even if none will set foot in the Philippines or a Philippine embassy.

Having generations of no contact with the Philippines or its embassy and suddenly a person can play in the PBA just because a great great great great parent was born here seems weird to me. Just as weird as generations of people who are foreigners because none in their line can afford to pay for a naturalization process. These people are Pinoys by birth and upbringing spanning multiple generations but there is no practical way for them to gain citizenship.

The law was made so that 2nd and 3rd generation Fil-Foreigners could obtain Philippine citizenship easily and legally inherit properties in the Philippines left to them by their Filipino parents and grandparents. Under our laws, non-Filipinos cannot own property.

You mean the limit for fil-for for teams? I dont agree with that rule as well, but you have to understand that it was made due to circumstances that happened in the past. The homegrowns dreamt of being a PBA player then suddenly, an unknown fil am would take his job.

Simon Enciso

I understand that but come on. Competition is competition. I worked hard to get here too! So it’s okay to look down upon my hard work and passion to be great so that a homegrown can have my spot. That ain’t right

Yes, I know that. And as Ive said, its a bit racist to be honest to classify a Filipino born outside the country as "Fil-Foreign" We are all Filipino and in this age this should not be a thing. @pbaconnect should lift that limit.

The rule has long past its usefullness. Most of the FilFors have even played here prior to the PBA so you cant even justify that the rule is for marketing purposes.

Fil-fors who are fiba eligible or played for a collegiate team in the Philippines as well as those both parents are filipinos but born in countries that apply jus soli, should not be counted for the quota

So I saw on wiki that SMB has 8 fil foreign
Lassiter
Ross
Tautuaa
Rosales
Nava
Perez
Enciso
Kyt Jimenez

Kind of funny that Kyt Jimenez is considered a Fil Foreign because he was born outside of the Philippines pero in reality, both his parents are both filipino

But why the hell the SMB would release Enciso for Kyt? must be a marketing decision.

Arvin going for 50, already with 44 unless Bonnie decides to sit him with 6 minutes to go and the game already decided.

Arvin will not reach his full potential if he stayed with Ginebra, if he will improve his defense and lateral speed, he can be a good addition to the national team

Arvin Tolentino: 51 pts. 6 reb. 15/27 fg

This has to be the highest point total for a local for the past 2 decades right? ( i remember canaleta scoring 40+ as a member of air 21)

edit: oops pringle scored 50 as a member of global port in 2018 vs kia/columbia

iirc Asi had a 53 point game

Caguioa had a 40+ game i think the past 2 decades, and I think Helterbrand too. Mercado and Norwood had as well early in their careers in RoS. Ritualo and Cardona also had a 40+ game.
But Arvin might scored the highest home grown.

Allan Caidic 79 points. It will be interesting to see how a prime Caidic would be with a 4 point line.
