Excited with Meralco-Converge game. That will Rajko-Nenad's battle of coaching mastery. Will not be surprised if Tab ends up with SMC. Long Hair has a history of setting aside his grudge for his teams' interest.

Or this dude who seems to enjoy his last stint here.

How does being a consultant work in the PBA? So basically a foreign head coach is still allowed as long as they identify themselves as consultant? And the PBA is aware of it? I mean what is the point of banning foreign coaches when there is a loophole and they are definitely aware of it. Lmao.

because its not the PBA who bans a foreigner to be a head coach it is BCAP and because of a law, PBA don't have an issue if a foreign coach is actively coaching the team it's just he cannot hold the official title of a head coach

Teams have been doing this for years. Heck this aint even Rajko Toroman first go around in the league. Over a decade ago he was hired by both Barako Bull and Petron Blaze(now SMB). It what it is, tho it would be so much better if they just kick the rule out all together.

not just a simple rule, it's a rule mandated by law that is why the league allows foreign consultants and even allow them to do the actual coaching, they can't just be listed as the official HC

I see, now that clear things up. I was really wondering why the PBA won't scrap the ban since there is just a loophole then they are aware of it. It all now makes sense since PBA is not the one who implements the ban. Thanks.

I wonder how many PBA coaches are members of BCAP. I think the primary reason they exist is to block foreign coaches, you wont hear anything or activities from that group. They only get noisy everytime there's a new afam in town

Bcap is mum on the active consultant thing as long as locals get the head coaching title (even if by formality), bcap

says much how local coaches (and filipinos in general) love empty titles

looks good on cvs though

I thought that bcap rule was a 90s thing as coaches are mere second class in the league back then, it gives them job security as the active consultant doesn't really steal a plantilla position of a basketball team.

Yes, personally it does defeat the essence of the law since in reality we all know who's actually calling the shots. Another case of a pride thing for pinoys. Not wanting competent foreign coaches to get the spotlight. What boggles me even more is pba doesnt allow it yet tab and ateneo with the uaap was able to get away with it.

and now Sean Chambers for FEU, TNT hired an American coach before but i don't exactly remember what happened with him as i was on my pre-teen years when they hire Bill Bayno, actually the law does not specifically focus on coaching but any profession in the Philippines, though UAAP i think is more lenient

I believe his focus will still be with benilde once they start season 100 and will stick there until december when the season finishes. He recently said in a podcast that he intends to focus on csb this year and i believe he'll do just that. His resume wont be complete anyways without winning one in the ncaa. Prolly the reason someone else is the interim.

Exactly, i wonder why tho. I mean is it because uaap is an amatuer league?

Cansino just got signed. Meralco gets some help on offense since Pasaol sucked.
