Oklahoma City What?

As you all must know by now, the Seattle Supersonics have been moved to OKC but the name of the franchise has remained in Seattle for use by a potential future team there. So now a new name has to be found for the new team. I am suspecting that the choice will eventually be something super lame (Bobcats anyone?) along the lines of some wild animal or natural phenomenon. Some names in circulation include (Red) Barons, Thunder, Thunderbirds, Twisters, Durrants (:D) and others. I would have personally favored a Native American-themed name to go along with the history of the area. "Indians" exists already (baseball, Cleveland), Redskins too (Am. Football, Washington), so how about "Natives"  Also given that Chuck Norris lives in Oklahoma, the names "Chucks", "Roundhouse Kicks" and "Ultimates" have to be thrown out there for consideration to say the least.

Any suggestions?

I agree with Penzias that the Sooners would be a great name. The only problem is that it´s already used by a university. :(

JCN, I have always liked Native-themed names, although I understand why Native Americans don´t like them a whole lot. Some of them, like the Indians in baseball, are just absurdly racist. Perhaps a nam with a good, strong connotation and a handsome looking mascot...

The Dust Bowlers? The Dusters?

The Okies? For John Steinbeck?

The Bison?

Apparently, the new name of the team will be Oklahoma City Barons.

I used to live in Beaver, Oklahoma and our team was called the Beaver Dusters. Honest! :D
OK, do I need to be the first person to make a dirty joke here or do you want to do it? :D :D

Oklahoma The Musicals (homage to the show)
Oklahoma City SuperSooners (homage to its former teamname and celebrating its current local culture);)

some of the more prominent suggestions have been thunderbirds (native american heritage), thunder (because of the weather), barons (oil), or outlaws (wild west).

I think Outlaws sounds the best...barons sounds terrible to me (Oklahoma City Barons?). Oklahoma City Outlaws sounds legitimate.

what about a great complement? like oklahoma city lights, haha

-Barons is a good name, but it may come across as an indirect reference to Clay Bennett and how he manipulated the whole thing.

-Outlaws? If the NBA didn't like the Bullets for politically correct reasons, should they take this name?

i think bullets and outlaws are two different animals. Outlaws infers a type of gunslinging lifestyle...but bullets are tool of death. Outlaws is more cartoonish also. Bullets was alittle too "in your face".

How about the Oklahoma Great Plains?
(Since most of Oklahoma lies in the Great Plains)

U could also have the Oklahoma Sequoyahs
(I think that was the Indian name of the State)

Oklahoma City 86ers (because they 86's the Seattle franchise).

Personally, I like the Outlaws. I think it is a little more comical than the Bullets. Aren´t we also in an anti-politically correct moment in the nation? I keep forgetting when we´re deciding to be politically correct and when we´re not.

I also think Khalid´s suggestion of the Sequoyas is good. It seems respectful and strong at the same time.

Thax bro!

i think it's a terrible name. The college i went to in the US was nicknamed the "Thunder" and everyone thought it was a joke.

Hmm. Probably, Oklahoma Durants? or maybe Oklahoma Westbrooks :DDDDDD?
