Any Rugby Union fans out there?

Being from Australia, obviously I support the game and the global growth it has.

So, which Rugby competition do you follow and who is your favourite team?

For me, I'm a HUGE FAN of the Philippine Volcanoes (www.prfu.com)!!!

I still remember their early days when they first started back in 2003!

I signed up to their monthly newspaper and I still have the very first photo of the Philippine Volcanoes First XV!

Attached is the very first Philippine Volcanoes squad.

we have a grreat lebanese national team in rugby and they r aiming for world cup this year

I am huge fan the New Zealand All Blacks but I pick the Philippines Volcanoes (its increasingly improving)... I've known about the Volcanoes around 2004, when they're looking for players to recruit here in Australasia...

2011 Rugby World Cup will be in New Zealand... it should be as blast as the 2005 British and Irish Lions Tour of New Zealand... 2019 Rugby World Cup will be in Japan and hoping for the Volcanoes to qualify for that one... we are one division away from the top level...

I regularly follow the Super 14 (I support the Canterbury Crusaders and its dynasty;)) and the Air New Zealand Cup (I support Canterbury of course)... I also follow the Magners League and the Henieken Cup (supporting the Neath-Swansea Ospreys).... also watching the Tri-Nations, Bledisloe Cup, and the Pacific Cup and closely monitoring the Philippine Volcanoes performances in the Asian Five Nations Divisional/Regional tournaments...

What I know is that Lebanon has a great rugby league team... I don't think you guys have a rugby union team... rugby league, as a whole, when it comes to international season is quite disorganize... I wonder why you guys missed out last year's rugby league World Cup... especially with some NRL players have Lebanese blood...

and there's no Rugby League World Cup this year nor a Rugby World Cup...

Come on Pumas, let's try to remain in top 8 for these years... otherwise there won't be a Four Nations for us:o

None of the above. I am a fan of the North Quincy Red Raiders.:)

They have rugby? Thought you'd have to go to BC High or CM for that sort of thing.

USA Eagles are pretty bad but I guess I support them anyway...saw them give Ireland a decent game earlier this summer. If sevens make it into the Olympics maybe they can recruit some good athletes.

We just started it last year. We are the first city public school to have a team (since we don't get all funding because of Quincy High). Most all of the wealthier and private schools have them. I played as the 1 and we played Xaverian (JV), Marshfield (both varsity and JV), Malden Catholic varsity, and Brookline varsity (they ended up winning New England's). We were 1-4. Definately, we have a good start with a good coach and a committed group of players.

So you play prop... enjoying bashing someone upfront?...

Actually we got no funding since rugby isn't a MIAA sport..rugby is only a club. All other teams get to practice whenever they please and they get loads of players and have Varsity, B side, JV, Developmental....we only had 25 players plus a 14-15 team of girls. Other teams in MA that have teams are CM, BC High, Scituate did but season was ended short for reasons, St. John's Prep, Lincoln-Sudbury....and others I can't think of.

Haha yeah....and im not the biggest or strongest...but its fun. I hit some people and they hit me...I went up against a prop who was a state wrestler and must have weighed 280-290..and I am only 195...and he was a tank..but we figured out how to hit him! Most games, we had only 3 props and in one game, we were down to 2 and no fowards to sub. Most games, we were in it playing well for a first year team that has only played cotnact rugby since March and other teams had been playing for atleast a year!

I think its fun playing rugby from a scratch.. you guys just started and its all about the love of the game... even here in New Zealand most teams are clubs and usulally got their funds through members and supporting donating money or membership fees... schools should be financing their own sports teams regardless of sports code... I guess rugby is still developing in the States... and players will eventually develop.. In fact, last Rugby World Cup, one of the best wingers of the tournament was an American... the guy scored one of the best tries of the tournament outrunning Bryan Habana, who at the time the best winger in the world....

lol! best way to tackle props are through their legs... even professional rugby players here doesn't dare to tackle big props upfront... about two-three years ago, a New Zealand flanker tackled a South African prop upfront and he was knocked off unconcious by the big guy... he was injured with a head concussion for seven weeks after that tackle...

ya, we figured that out after a few people got dinged. I think people here are used to American football's high tackles, but we got better...great improvement. Rugby is a great game. It was great to walk through school with a jersey on nobody else has worn before. Rugby I think is the sport that relies on the concept of team the most.Everyone on that field is vital to success. Its also great as I fell everyone on the team had a newfound respect for everyone else since they had not only been tough enough to give the hits, but we were tough enough to take them all. We grew tighter as a team throughout the year. And next year, I know more people will come out to play. Even incoming freshman are talking about it now..so its spreading throughout the city fast!

Well said.... thats how it should be.. team sports really make players closer together and respect each other... back in high school, I played scrum-half but since rugby is quite popular here, the team is always full all the time and only get to play when somebody's injured... so I stop playing and focus on basketball and soccer.. I also tried rugby league... but rugby union is better in my opinion...

This was an article the local paper did on our team.

(the one with the mean look staring at the coach:D)

I can see the passion there:D... hehehe looks like you're fired up and ready to bash someone:D:D...

Those articles really shows how the game is improving in the States...

I really hate this sport yet Somehow I actually love Rugby sevens (7's)

it's such a thrilling fast-paced game where anything can happen.

I hope it gets included in the Olympics.

Yeah I hope they get included... its the only chance that small countries such as Fiji to win Olympic medals... and rugby sevens is growing around the world... aside from the traditional rugby sevens powers (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, England, South Africa)... countries such as Argentina, Tonga, United States, and especially Kenya are slowly catching up... though England have to unite with Scotland and Wales in order to compete in the Olympics...

I also hope they re-instated softball not golf...

Boooo! lol ... GO THE WARATAHS!!!

2019 Rugby World Cup will be in Japan and hoping for the Volcanoes to qualify for that one... we are one division away from the top level...

The rate that the Philippine Volcanoes are going I'm confident that the Filipinos will be in Division I of Asia in no time and eventually qualify for the Rugby World Cup.

I can't wait when they expand the competition to include the Pumas. I actually have a jersey of the Pumas and I loved wearing it around when I was in the Philippines or here in Australia because you can never get them in this part of the world.

The ironic thing is that I bought that jersey when I was in Uruguay and I never bought a Uruguayan "Teros" jersey.

However, it is still a tough debate because the players would prefer to be included in the six nations because they believe that their club and country commitments would not clash, which is true. But furthermore, Argentina is culturally closer to Europe than it is to us - Aussies, my Kiwi brothers or the Springboks.

Ultimately, I believe that they should be included in the Tri-Nations however, the clash between club and country MUST be resolved before the inclusion of Argentina into the Tri-Nations takes place.

Rugby Sevens is an awesome version of the game. It's like non stop action and the speed and quickness of the players is purely amazing.

Well, of course you'll say that rugby union is better. You're from New Zealand! lol :D

I prefer to watch rugby union (because it's a way more strategic game than rugby league) however, I love playing rugby league, it makes anyone physically tough! In my opinon, it's probably the toughest contact sport in the world.

Check these rugby league hit ups!
