Miami defeats Chicago 94-70

Orlando, Fla.- The much anticipated match-up between Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose proved to live up to its billing Monday, and it was Beasley's Heat that came out victorious, 94-70.

Beasley, who is playing with a slightly fractured sternum, had the upper hand early, leading Miami with nine points in the first half, while playing just over eight minutes. Rose, playing with a sore right knee, managed three points on 1-of-3 shooting in 15 minutes of action in the first half. Demetris Nichols led Chicago with 11 points in the half.

Chicago, led by recently hired head coach Vinny Del Negro, trailed 48-34 at the half.

When the second half began, the action began to pick up between the two top draft picks. Rose displayed spectacular speed on multiple buckets, scoring seven points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Beasley exhibited his solid shooting touch, lighting up the nets for 14 third-quarter points, extending Chicago's lead to 20, 73-53, at the end of three.

The Heat, who led by as many as 27, shot 42 percent and had only 10 turnovers.

Although his NBA debut was impressive, Beasley didn't dominate every play of the game. Late in the fourth quarter, when he drove baseline and went up to dunk, Chicago forward Cedric Simmons rejected it, drawing quite a reaction from the standing-room-only crowd at the RDV Sportsplex.

Nonetheless, Beasley led all scorers with 28 points on 9-of-21 shooting, while grabbing nine rebounds.

The Bulls struggled from the floor, shooting just 37 percent, and turned the ball over 18 times. Rose finished with 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting, dished out four assists but had five turnovers.

Indiana defeats Oklahoma City 95-78

Orlando, Fla.- The Indiana Pacers defeated Oklahoma City 95-78 in the first game of the Orlando Pro Summer League.

The Pacers, whose two first-round picks are not participating in the league, started the game on an 8-0 run. Following a timeout at the 7:57 mark, Oklahoma City got on the board with a bucket by first-round pick D.J. White.

Oklahoma City’s first-round pick Russell Westbrook (fourth overall) scored eight consecutive points in the quarter to pull the team back within five, at 21-16. His driving layup over two defenders brought the score to 24-23 with under a minute to go in the quarter. Indiana added a free throw to end the quarter with a score of 25-23.

Indiana guards Earl Calloway and Stephen Graham took advantage of the defensive-minded Westbrook starting the second quarter on the bench. The Pacers began the quarter on a 10-2 run to bring their lead to 10. Calloway and Graham paced the team with 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the half.

The Pacers went into the half with a 45-38 lead.

Westbrook finished with 15 points, two assists and four rebounds on six of eight shooting in the half.

In the third quarter, the Pacers began to pull away. Courtney Sims and Josh Davis each scored six points. After a steal and dunk by Oklahoma City’s Mykal Riley, Stanley Burrell brought the inbounds pass up-court and hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Pacers led 71-58 at the end of three quarters.

An early fourth quarter run by Oklahoma City brought them to within eight, but Shawne Williams and Andre Emmett ended the run with consecutive 3-pointer for the Pacers to bring the lead back to 83-69.

Over the final five minutes, the Pacers continued to pull away and led 95-76 after two consecutive fast break layups. Oklahoma City scored the final basket, and the Pacers then dribbled out the clock.

The Pacers had five players in double figures, led by Calloway with 16 points. He also added seven assists. Andre Emmett added 15 points and Graham finished with 14.

Jeff Green was the leading scorer for Oklahoma City with 21 points. He and Westbrook, who finished with 18 points, were Oklahoma City’s only players in double figures. Westbrook finished also added give assists and four rebounds.

Eric Gordon is a hungry offensive player, and i like his aggressiveness in this game. Although he is only 5/18 from the Field, it gave us an idea that is he is going to be an impact player for the Clippers next season.

I agree with the Summer League Commentators that it's going to be fun watching Gordon develop into a great player in the NBA.

and Al Thornton also have great summer league performance scoring 20 points, and grabbing 7 rounds. I felt that after Corey Maggete signed with the Golden State Warriors that Thornton is going to replace him in the Clippers starting 5.

Overall great game for the Los Angeles Clippers, and I would be supporting this team next season as my favorite team in the Western Conference.

Donte Greene went for 40 last night--he can certainly score, but how will he fit in when he's with McGrady and Yao and not the focal point of the offense?
