Might be too early to tell…But it seems like even with the upgrade in the line up, Red Lions has not shown any improvement that can make them a championship contending team. They are having another aweful offseason preparations again. Looking like they are not responding to Yuri’s system still. Even Janti Miller in recent preseason games was being reduced to a jumpshooter while Jimmy Reyes looking lost.

i dont think so, Beda, Benilde, Letran, Perps and Mapua are competing even though its just preseason. Most of them are not yet complete and maybe hiding their cards. Its the best time to experiment and try what they think might work and will go all out when the season starts.

I agree with you. Even though it's only the off-season, they have no excuse to lose. The core players were on the court and they even let Marcelo, who isn't eligible to play next season, join in and yet they still lost. This team has no grit.. We could only hope that the team will improve drastically and learn from these off season mistakes.

It’s like their mindset are not focused to win. They look like they’re just going thru the motions just to finish the game. No motivation in winning the game.

Maybe because Yuri is busy with his other job in the PBA. If we look at the coaches (NCAA & UAAP) who won the chip like Alcantara, Topex, Goldwyn and Tab, all are full time coaches with their respective schools. So the focus is there even in the preseason tournaments. Unlike Yuri in the preseason he has been preoccupied with Talk ‘N Text and you can see it as Andre has been handling some of the preseason games.

I think this might be a factor also in CSB as Charles was a part time coach in the offseason with Converge and SGA. But now Charles has no commitment with Converge, he will now be focusing solely on St. Benilde. It will be different now and this could be St. Benilde’s year.

I dunno about coach yuri he seems to live and die by the 3, which is unfortunate since he prolly has the most athletically gifted guys in his lineup right now. Puno, Miller and Reyes can score more efficiently if given more freedom in the offense. They also have pound for pound, prolly the strongest big in the ncaa next season in lina who could dominate the paint if also given the opportunity. Maybe its best if the offense mixes it up a bit. Its early but looking at their body language after the arellano loss is off putting.

Yuri is the big problem of the Red Lions. Imho he should be sacked. I said this long time ago that his championship win is TSAMBA.

Exactly. His PBA job is keeping him busy away from the Red Lions in the preseason. And there are also off court activities that cannot be avoided as well.

Yuri asked to be excused in the game vs ADMU (Asiabasket) to attend a school activity for one of his children. Lina followed as well and asked to be excused from the games vs DLSU (Asiabasket), vs ADU (UBelt) to attend his sister’s week long wedding celebration.

I was hoping both would make up for their previous absence. But they did not and played poorly in the end game vs Arellano in the UBelt Cup, where they are still winless after 3 games.

the philosophy that pre-season games/tourneys are meant to learn/familiarize the system more than winning is paradoxical.. basketball is a competition the last time i checked.. players should be taught how to win (grit, perseverance, resilience, heart).. what good is running a system, only to be beaten by teams who really want to win and fight.. pag natatapat SBU sa teams na madiin maglaro, losartan agad first qtr pa lng..

You can add EAC to that list they just eliminated a dlsu team reinforced by their prized transferees in pinoyliga next man cup. They havent really won a lot in the offseason but i noticed they've joined countless tourneys already.

EAC with the upset of the year against La Salle

Dlsu has been sus for months now. Even most of their wins against legit teams are come from behind. Benilde has even beaten them in two offseason tourneys this year.

Playing to the level of the competition.

Not a good look imo, for a team thats trying to regain its confidence after losing the crown last year. They need all the W's they can build on. Especially againt an EAC team who doesnt have a player taller than 6'5 lol.

I wouldn't read too much into this. Its just a game in April at then end of the day. Its more about fixing the problems and thats gonna be on Topex.

Ive been saying the same thing lol, but their improvement since january has been minimal. Its been months but seems like the new guys still dont know what their role in the team is.
Thats why teams like ateneo, san beda and benilde who i believe should below them but are more familiar with each other can go toe to toe with them.

If by the time filoil comes around and the same problems still persist. They'll be in trouble come uaap season.

Who are the players of EAC Team B? Was Cabiltes coaching? Perhaps Coach Jerson has something to prove. He’s I think a DLSU alumnus and with his accomplishments in the MPBL he was not among the candidates for the DLSU coaching gig a couple years back.

Which preseason tourney matters the most? Is it filoil? Asiabasket, pinoyliga? Or it’s in the season itself we can gauge? For me letran is hiding and will surprise with manalili and estrada leading the team.

Jerson was there. For the players, rookie ej castillo lead the team along with transferees shanoda and omandac. Didnt see a lot of their team A in the boxscore.

Its even funnier that dlsu even brought along their cheer team and see their team go down double digits in the 2nd half lol.

Its filoil for me. All uaap and ncaa teams are there. Most of the teams lineup their upcoming season's roster and its the last major preseason tourney in the calendar.

i think letran are still not a legit final 4 team. As of now i still have the same final 4 teams last year, with perpetual and eac not far behind lpu. Ive seen a lot of letran's games and so far they arent doing anything special. They'll prolly have a deeper lineup than last year but i think allen ricardo still needs to tweak his system to maxmize his roster's potential.
