NCAA Season 100

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2
  • Start date Start date
Red Lions guards getting schooled by CEU guards of Diaz and Marcelo. So far this early Sajonia has not shown he can be a playmaker and lead SBU. The SBU guard rotation is kinda iffy because they have Nygel as the starting PG always but it is either Royo or Tagle who finishes.

Coach Yuri has built this team since last year as a jump shooting team. And when they’re shooting awful, it’s always a struggle. You need someone who could create and take it inside to draw some fouls. This was Jacob Cortez’s role last season. I was hoping Sajonia would replicate Jacob’s role.

They need more games, more tournaments to play. It’s practically a new team so start from scratch uli si Yuri.

Royo at the end of games is a nightmare on your defense. Dude is too small, and is a liability out there. Anyways as for tagle, has he improved his playmaking skills? Only see him as a catch and shoot guy. Better for nygel to finish things off.

Remember Yuri is a protege of Chot Reyes, who loves to downsize and prioritize speed and jump shooting. Honestly Nygel has been passive and takes too long to set up. So I agree with Yuri finishing the game with veteran PGs Royo or Tagle.

Puno was a full-time 3 last season and we saw him on few occasions in the Finals where was moved to the 4 to give the defense some versatility. But because of injuries he is forced to play up to the big man spot.

In terms of preparation, this is only SBU’s first tournament with their Team A. Compare that to 2023, when they played the DLeague it was their third tournament (Ballout Inter-Collegiate and AsiaBasket Kuala Lumpur). So they are starting late with their preseason because of the extended holiday Christmas vacation.

CYE on Bismark Lina's status and Bryan Sajonia (who takes a backstep so that the team can utilize all players and give them an opportunity to show what they can do:

"Injured pa si Bismarck, pero good news kasi tumatalon tiyaka tumatakbo na siya. We don't want to rush him. Pag okay siya, gagamitin namin siya. Pag hindi, ['di muna]," Escueta said.

"Importante yung health ng bata. Sakto siya, sa opening ng NCAA, but sabi ko nga hindi ko siya mamadaliin. Ang importante maging healthy muna siya."

Moving forward, what's important for San Beda is to figure things out and remain patient as they continue with their buildup for the NCAA's 100th season.

"Pwede naman naming gawin yun," said Escueta, pointing out how they could opt to play in a star-centric system just to be successful in the preseason tournaments.

"'Bigay natin kay Bryan Sajonia yung bola,' but it wouldn't do us good in the long run. One step at a time kami ngayon, ayoko naman na mag veer away sa sistema namin."

"As much as possible, sinusubukan namin na to be more systematic para sa team na 'to," he ended.

Aside from the PBA D-League, the Escueta and the Red Lion are also expected to participate in the 2024 FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup in mid May.

Edmund Mundas transferred to JRU. Eligible S100. I dont mind jude getting outside players to complement the team but not in the recruited red cubs expense. Banana.

Ed Mundas, while we value his loyalty to San Beda, is not yet ripe to play in the NCAA. Obvious naman na kailangan pang pagbuitihin ang pagsasanay para lalong gumaling. Unfortunately, he might have felt that time is running out for him and decided to find his own place under the sun. Good luck to him.

I will not take this against Jude or the coaching staff. A roster spot should be strictly based on merits alone. Skills, talent, among other things. San Beda needs to stay competitive. Kung mataas expectation natin sa team, dapat malakas ang team. We cannot choose players based on pedigree alone. Ateneo already abandoned their "homegrown" slogan years ago because they realized that it is anti competitive.

Malayong malayo ang husay at galing ni Ronrei kay Ed at this point.

Jimmy Reyes.

Mapua Red Robin Lance Masiglat joins the Letran Knights.

Lance declined the offer of Mapua to spend 1 year in Team B due to loaded 4/5s (Fermin, Igliane, Jabonete, Fornis, Reyno) for season 100.

Though come season 101, Letran will have all of their recruits and players or Gov Delta.

Education in sports here is just a moving goal post. I know DLSU basically takes it year by year term by term with Poli hoping he passes. ADMU as well but college basketball athletes have all they need to pass just dont be a lazy sack of crap

Im very skeptical of any program that likes to flaunt its academics. Individual students no problem but all these programs have horror stories of terrible students.

Looks like letran has found their backcourt for season 100. Manalili should start in day 1, his only competion could be garupil and montecillo. Jimboy estrada playing in a lot of semi pro leagues had helped him tremendously, he could push Cuajao off the bench.

Is Napalang still with letran?

UP Pinoyliga roster:
1. Cagu
2. Lopez
3. Alarcon
4. Belmonte
5. Alter
6. Gagate
7. Abadiano
8. Torres
9. Briones
10. Felicilda
11. Fortea
12. Torculas
13. Coronel
14. Stevens
15. Walker
16. Tan
17. Andres
18. Rivero
19. Ududo
20. Yniguez
21. Gemao
22. Remogat

Now the US commits are in full gear, don't be naive and think it's done (Bo will attend coming Filam tournament which has multiple recent HS grads)

23. Bayla

Then the other FSAs + whole team B (some guys have a non-zero chance like Jugo).

Guys like Pablo and Cyril just left because of the overcrowding.

This is the pool, can't make the pool just the 16 "healthy" players, they are not injured forever. Unless they transfer, they are beholden to UP. And the "residency" guys are also tied to UP and taken out of the market for other schools (definition of hoarding).

Yes, multiple schools are guilty of this (DLSU and CSB are notable) but to say that UP only has 16 is disingenuous.

IMO, the thing the ticks most critics (aside from questionable source of funds) is also the (for the lack of a better word) hoarding of bigs and very tall wings. Both positions are very rare in the country. Guys like Briones, Belmonte, Gagate, Alter, (and the departed Pablo) are very much needed by a lot of other teams and would not rot in the bench.

In csb's defense tho, 7 guys have graduated or left(gozum, oczon, corteza, nayve, carlos, marasigan, flores) and 2-3 more(davis, lepalam and marcos) will prolly not come back so thats around 10 open roster spots for season 100 lmao. Returning guys are mostly rookies from season 98 and 99 (Sangco might be the only vet returning) so they really needed to get a lot of new guys to remain in contention. UP have 12 guys returning including most of the key rotation players lmao.

Why would Marcos leave?
Whats up with him? Is he still in sch?
