Kapit tuko? Rensy Bajar, coaching staff unwilling to vacate Letran positions
Despite a subpar showing in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament last year, there are reports suggesting that Colegio de San Juan de Letran head coach Rensy Bajar, along with his coaching staff and the previous Knights team management, have declined to relinquish their positions.
Sports insider Snow Badua reported that Bajar and his group are attempting to retain their positions despite being offered substantial separation pay by the school.
The reluctance of Bajar and his group to step down has caused a delay in the possible acquisition of the Knights basketball team by Pampanga Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda and his group.
“Kuliglig told me that the entry and takeover of Gov. Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda at Letran have been delayed by some personalities who allegedly refuse to vacate their positions,” Badua wrote in his post.
“Kuliglg told me that Letran is said to be willing to ‘buy out’ the contract of Rensy Bajar and pay him P1,000,000 to vacate the position, but allegedly it was turned down,” he added.
“Camp of Gov. Delta Pineda said they won’t take over unless everything is clear,” the sports insider further said.
“Naku Letran, opportunity only knocks once. Pag nagbago isip nyan baka maghanap ng iba na school ‘yan.”
Even before officially entering Letran, Pineda and his group have been proactive, securing commitments and transfers from various NCAA schools.
Badua suggested that Bajar and his coaching staff, whom he referred to as remnants of the “San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Super Friends,” might be holding onto their positions to thwart Pineda and his group from taking over Letran.
Pineda and SMC had a known “rivalry” when Alfrancis Chua blocked the entry of the Pampanga politician to the PBA Board of Governors as Converge FiberXers’ team governor.
The SMC had previously backed the Knights for three NCAA seasons, leading to three men’s basketball championships under then head coach Bonnie Tan.
