NCAA Season 100

Read somewhere that calvin epistola(not sure if i got the name right) will get the boot from his kbl team so that should give all 3 including escamis teams to sign

I think before the KBL 2024 season started, there were rumors that KCC is looking for a replacement for Epistola

I like Charles Tiu. Hopefully management of Benilde and he himself will still try to win at least one chip. He's good for the NCAA. What's lacking in Benilde I think really is the fan base. There's no culture & as mentioned here students of CSB tend to associate themselves to DLSU too much.

So how was the centennial season of the NCAA? Was it a success?

I wonder if Ty Tang is willing to take the job again

He is, he and his fam have already relocated back in the country. Tho from the recent spin article that just published seems like charles tiu is determined to win one with benilde, so the full time pba gig will have to wait. If im sga, i dont see any problem retaining him especially if there is no else in the sga umbrella that could do the job any better, but we'll see by january.

So how was the centennial season of the NCAA? Was it a success?

If were looking at every teams performance, it should be. Even the last placed jru had 4 wins. In the last 20 years or soo, the last place team having 4 wins have only happened twice or thrice. So you could say it was a very competitive season. New stars were identified (Are, Barba, even Liwag). 6-7 teams still in the hunt for a f4 spot even the last few game dates and all the final 4 teams that did qualify were pretty deserving. New teams on the rise, beating the long standard of a bedan or letran finals. So if we're looking at it purely in basketball, it was a huge success.

Now if were talking about marketing and other non bball related stuff, well nothing has really improved with how gma handled everything. Felt like a regular season.

CSB arguably has the best lineup this season. So it must be the coaching’s fault. But yeah Mapua got an advantage coz of their finals experience.

But seriously how come their turnovers is still not fixed up to this season? They have a good coaching staff. A lot of great coaches to handle that department. So they should fire the coach who’s supposed to fix it. Turnovers is very basic. It would definitely cost you games, what more a finals series? But definitely, Charles is to blame why up to now they are still not able to fix it with the guards that they have. It’s really puzzling! :D

As much as i want to 100% fault charles tiu, when it comes to the turnovers, the blame is all on the players. Why? Because coaching staff doesnt exactly tell you to give the ball over right? Its the players on the court thats doing it, nothing the coach could do about it really. I mean its not as easy as telling everyone to stop committing it. No matter how many times they run the plays, if the players dont execute, i dont think its fair to blame it all on the coach. And its not an easy fix as you think, especially since the guys have gotten used to the system throughout the year

On the other hand im not saying charles tiu is totally blameless. He could have done a better job with his rotations, defensive adjustments and how he prepared his guys for this finals series. Felt like benilde players had the finals jitters throughout the series, complete opposite to a very confident mapua side. And lastly credit to the mapua coaching staff for their defense. This should make benilde tweak things when it comes to their offense. I guess sometimes too much passing will hurt you. They need to find the right balance on iso and set plays. They have the guys naman to do it like sanchez, ynot, torres and eusebio. Even ancheta can score on the get go

Hopefully Escamis can sign in kbl. Mapua is strong with the new recruits. Cuenco and cyril gonzales with mangubat and bancale with new recruits, mapua still for me is the favorites. Big men drex delos reyes and gulapa will be big help while nitura and manlapaz. Mapua is stocked next year.

Good run by benilde this year but still not good enough. Maybe time to give the coaching reins to someone else, might be a mark jackson kind of situation where the warriors needed a change for them to get over the hump. The pieces are their, just need the right mix and blend.

Biggest question now is if liwag will stay one more year. I have feeling that even if ynot said that he wanted to turn pro, this abysmal finals appearance may make him change his mind. Assuming everyone else not graduating returns, this revenge team should still be solid for season 101

Both Liwag & Ynot can do a Javillonar right? Apply for the PBA draft but stay for one more year?

No way any of the csb transferees leave after this season. Too big of an unfinished business for them, especially for guys like liwag and ynot. So even if ynot stated earlier that he'll prolly turn pro, now that he lost, he'll more than like stay on to atleast win one for his collegiate career.

Anyways another year, another disappointment. Season 98 was so close, season 99 with all the returning core was a big let down and with the season 100 lineup which was probably the best benilde team ever assembled, to again just get swept. Hayy one can only hope they would also end the drought next year. Imo this years team had every chance to win it all, heck they could have even swept the season if they really put in the work, but alas it was really mapua's year and kudos to them for winning it all. They did their homework against us and ive got nothing but praise and respect to that team. No excuses, csb flat out choked again with turnovers being the big culprit. It was really dumbounding to see how awful they were in taking care of the ball considering they have 4-5 quality guards that can handle the ball. The turnovernitis they had in season 99 was understandable given the lack of guard depth last year, but this supposed was supposed to be them improving. Imo for a team that supposedly have all the chemistry in thr world, they looked flat in the finals. Looked like they didnt wanna win. Anyways fortunately for them, they only have 2 graduating seniors, and i expect most of the core to come back next year so this is my way too early lineup for season 101 as it stands:

Ancheta
Ynot (graduating)
Jarque
Sanchez
Liwag

Cometa (graduating)
Torres
Celis*
Eusebio
Serrano

Cajucom
Carillo
Ondoa
Gaspay*
Umali*

Jucom*
Moore*
Gonzaga*

Demoted to team b
Galas
Arciaga
Morales

Team b hopefuls:
Victoria
Daja
Jalalon
Vanguardia
Baliquig

Departures: Sangco, Turco, Oli(still has 1 year left, but his spot easily be replaced by guys from team b)

What about James Nacua? He is still in CSB right?

Ynot yes, liwag no. If im not mistaken liwag has 2 more years after this season. Ynot will be in his last due to his age

I get your point. BTW I’m not saying it’s Charles’ 100% fault. That’s why I said they should fire the coach who’s handling that department. What I’m saying is it’s partly Charles’ fault coz he’s supposed to oversee everything even though he has delegates in each department.

If you will look at other teams who are averaging only 10 turnovers and below, obviously they are running a system to make sure that they maintain that average. So each team for sure employs a system to look at that department. It’s just that CSB’s turnover average is way above those teams who are averaging 10 and below. And it has been their problem since last season and they have great guards who has good ball handling skills. Makes someone wonder why is it still their problem up to now? So for me, the coaches must be overlooking it or they’re not doing enough about it. I just think that if they made a better job on handling their turnovers, they could at least extend the series to game 3.

Its a pitfall of the system they're running. And if you notice, they really rely on it even if their opponents have already scouted them. The system who's architect was rajko toroman. So they cant really fire him. Again if its a turnover problem, pretty hard to pinpoint which coach is to blame since its a problem with the player's execution. I mean look at it this way, no matter how much prep and repitition they do, if the players keep on messing up on the floor, nothing really the coaches can do. What they can and should do is to tweak the system in the offseason. They can approach it in 2 ways, make the plays more intricate to avoid opposing teams in reading the passing lanes easily or make it lil bit simpler with more iso finishes. Anyways no team averaged below 10 to's in the season, the teams averaged 12-17 a game and benilde actually manages to improve on it in the 2nd rd. I guess mapua's defense just did a solid job against benilde that they force them to commit back to back 20+ to's

Who will stay and leave? These new recruits are capable of cracking the line up next year.
