that's a huge signing bonus, afaik what some schools do is to give an advance (say half of the promised allowance upfront and the other half via monthly payouts), an example that comes to mind is arvie bringas who was offered a P2M advance by UE on top of P33K monthly for 60 months (which is basically another P2M spread over 5 years). well we all know that bringas didn't bite so just imagine what dlsu offered.

the total amount of P4M may sound "wow" to most people but if a school has wealthy boosters that is doable. for example, i know for a fact that some teams have 3-4 boosters "sponsoring" a player's allowance. so if we take P33K and split that by 3 wealthy boosters that's a more realistic P11K per month, if there are 4 boosters then the amount goes down further. i also know that blue chip recruits are usually partnered/matched with the top boosters who on their own can already shoulder the allowance.

I don’t think its Kyle. As far as i remember Ogie graduated already when Kyle entered SBU. My guess its Pong Escobal. He was highly touted if i remember it correctly.

Didn’t know UE had that kind of moolah to use. When the late coach Lawrence Chongson was active in PEx. He preaches on having to recruit quality players but they are still within a certain budget. Even their one and dones like Mendoza and Suerte during those times.

I remember it was Ateneo which tried to recruit Pong Escobal, not DLSU. But maybe DLSU tried to recruit him also.

since cardona mentioned the recent dlsu ring ceremony and that there was not this big sign on bonus during their time, i would guess he was talking about jacob cortez. that mvp matched the offer. cardona went on to say P2m sign on bonus plus p125k monthly allowance. this is pretty huge.
