NCAA Season 100

No one thought San Beda would be champs last year. Its alright to worry about the teams performance now in the off-season. Give the team a break, they just won the 23rd crown last year.

Maybe they are just hiding their cards now and will reveal it where it.matters the most, the NCAA season. Coach Jude has been taking care of the team for over a decade. I trust him to do his work well.

anyone in mind? dont have any idea on big time bedan alumni

Tycoons:

1) Roberto Coyuito - college
2) Amb Jose Antonio - college
3) Andrew Gotianum (maybe his heirs would consider supporting their old man's alma mater) - college
4) George Yang -hs
5) laus group of pampanga

Maybe unilab since their CFO is a bedan Joselito Diga ( college) or Metro Investment of Metrobank group since it is also headed by a bedan.

I kinda feel like the The red cubs exodus a couple of years back will be felt more than ever this year and the succeeding seasons. Beda's succession plan after Yukien and payosing's batch were greatly affected. Come to think of it the last couple offseasons, is actually the first time i saw beda recruit a lot tranferees and hs dudes from other schools.

Yes. Even up to now, RC is still losing players to other HS teams with Canete and probably Lorenzo the latest to make the move. Aside from a relatively weak RC pipeline, Residency players (Team B) are not a good talent source as well.

Cardinals’ team B just started team practice last Saturday, that’s why many players cramp up and some doesnt know the system yet.

If the number recruits would automatically translate into championship then I will be worried. Not to take away anything from the player the other schools recruited but how many of these recruits are blue chippers? Granting that they are blue chips, the next question is how they will fit and develope.

IMO Britt should take over.

I think canete and the other kid were the last of manu inigo's boys in the red cubs so atleast they somehow know who's loyal now which is good in moving on with the rc program. The current rc is young but promising naman pero itll prolly take a couple of years again before the rc pipeline becomes dependable again.

As for the team b, for me its more of them underperforming. They got a solid haul naman last year, even comparable to what benilde got last year. I dunno whats up with those that spent residency, pero siguro its all matter of distinguishing their roles. The current RL have pretty big shoes to fill when it comes to those that left like Jacob's alpha role, alfaro's lesdership, or Jopia, cuntapay and visser's responsibilities in the paint. The sooner they figure all these out, the sooner they'll sort out their problems.

I guess the worry comes from the unresolved needs like for example the big man shortage. I can understand naman since the ones they've got has health issues. Its pretty hard to win if you got guys like songcuya and jalbuena manning the paint.

honest take on San Beda.. they play too much system, that their player’s individual talents and ‘diskarte’ regress.. and that system rely heavily on good/efficient shooters.

if you ONLY have andrada(injured) and tagle as good shooters (IMO), it would be difficult.. ball rotation is good but if you are always forced to eat 20-22 secs of your shotclock to only shoot 3s or contested shots, what good is that ball rotation for?

also SBU defense struggles a lot when the opposing side has a good one-one talent.. the guard from CEU who transferred to Letran shown this on Filoil.. then again tonight from Cyril Gonzales..

is Jarvis Co, current team manager and benefactor of UST Tiger Cubs, is the former team manager of the Red Cubs?

Agree with these observations. If you compare the Sajonia that played in Pinoyliga Next Man Cup where he was given more opportunity to play outside the system versus the Sajonia that currently plays in this offseason/preseason games, you can really see a big difference.

CEU’s Marcelo and Diaz really ate the opposing guard’s defense but this is also attributable to the weaker interior defense and lack of at least 1 shotblocker (Jopia’s role in s99)

Agree but with the current recruitment landscape, recruiting a quality big man is a daunting task.

the game earlier today was painful to watch.. there were instances that there was too much weaving and passing only to end in a players hand with no distinct advantage and almost no time on the shot clock.. there were also instances that a player could have taken a better %age midrange or drove to the basket but still passed/weave only to end with a chucked shot… many 3pt shots didnt even hit the rim..

also needs to improve shooting free throws…

add jimboy estrada from letran (luckily SBU won that Filoil game) with Marcelo and Cyril Gonzales that toyed with SBU defense..

SBU is going to live and die by shooting 3's, that's what they did last season.

last year, they had alfaro, jacob cortez, and sometimes cuntapay together with andrada and tagle to drain those 3s.. at least with cuntapay, may threat kahit papaano sa 3s..

also last season, other teams are still adjusting how to defend that.. this time around, i think opposing teams have a better read defending it..

jacob was really a big loss.. he was the anomaly in that yuri ball system.. he fits in the system but occasionally was given to opportunity to be creative and lethal..

Yukien & Payosing became very inconsistent with their shooting after Jacob left, only reliable shooter now is Tagle who can sink 3 consistentl. Only question now is how big of a factor will the injured players make in this team.

We have Jimmy Reyes but will be available next season. Better than Jacob IMO.
