NCAA Season 100

Charles Tiu and CSB will be fine. In his 1st year, he lead benilde to the top 4. Nobody expected them to even reach the play-ins that year since they mostly comprised of untested transferees and recruits and 7 holdovers with no clear alpha since gutang decided to turn pro early.

Following year, again nobody expected benilde to be a f4 team, overachieved yet again to get the number 1 seed, leading the team to its best finish ever and first f4 appearance for more than 20 years and eventually the finals. If not for the shoddy officiating and key players cramping up in finals Game 1, they could have won italready in season 98

Season 99 was supposed to be their year but it mostly exposed how limited the players are than the system charles implemented. We cant just fault the coaches when its the players who are the one executing in the court, when its the players who doesnt have the right mentality coming to the game. Lets face it Gozum and company got over themselves after season 98 and thought season 99 would be a cakewalk. No matter how many times charles tiu reminded them they havent won anything yet, they still can get the overconfidence out of their sytem. Gozum and Corteza for me regressed and it didnt help that cullar and pasturan were bigger losses than it was believed to be since they lost 2 quality leaders on the court. Still, the team salvaged 3rd place. Again not bad for team that were consistent basement dwellers and heartbreak kids over the last 20 years.

Infact, in his early years with the team, Benilde didnt even have the same quality of recruitment consistent contenders San Beda and Letran have. They have no hs pipline and budget was not that competitive yet. Sure they had gozum but the rest were pretty under the radar. Guys like Oczon was a bakaw guard who did nothing else, corteza was undersized for his position, cullar couldnt cut it with ue as is with pasturan with adamson and marcos in ust. Still most of these guys developed with the team and we cant just credit these to the players themselves. Evident by the benildeans in the pros scene, wether international or local, the growth of benilde's program is a testament of charles tiu's ability to lead the team. Ask any benildean about him and im pretty sure everyone is a believer and thats whats important at the end of the day.

In the last 3 years, a 30-15 record, 2 final fours and a final's appearance. Again he did these with supposedly below average recruits in gozum's batch. Imagine what he could do with better players in liwag's batch.....

Sure cct still has his faults pero we cant deny he and ty tang really helped turn this program around. Along with sga's support, they transformed this basement team known as dlsu's lil bro to a contender for years to come and personally as an alumni, im forever grateful.

But of course now that we know how good this team is, expectations should also be raised, with that if the team still cant achieve their goal of winning it all, maybe a change is warranted. Thats why season 100 imo will be cct's make or break year. Tho in both situations i dont see cct lasting lkng with benilde because if he proves himself in the ncaa and wins, boss frank will most likely elevate him in the mpbl or pba. If he doesnt, sga will prolly just rotate him to their other teams.

Leyton Buenaventure and MJ Langit transferred to Arellano.

Langit and cunningham have been with them for weeks. As for buenaventura, wont be surprised if fellow feu guys godinez and gordon follow him there.

In a season or two, i feel arellano will be back as contenders again. Coach chico manabat is building something special. Also helps that he has a pipeline of players from CEU and NU thru his bff jeff napa.

Gordon is with LPU

If he does leave i hope sga and benilde will take a chance on current NU assistant and mbpl coach MC Abolucion, he's also a former blazer and served on as an assistant to Alab, DLSU and UP.

San Beda will face Arellano in the NCAA U16 (Kiddies) Championship on Sunday.

Arellano defeated LPU in the semis. While SBU defeated the Staglets. LPU has a 6’8 big boy named Eoin Braga. The kid is good and will be a name to look out for in the future.

Red Cubs U16 are led by guards Dwayne Nonato, Madi Altamirano and starting center 6’5 Mark San Buenaventura.

Freshman of the year awardee and Letran Knight Stephen Garupil moves to JRU.

UE HS guard Mark Sarza joins Letran.

Letran's just too loaded at the guards now. Good move for him moving there since starting guards argente and ramos only have a couple of playing years left

How is the Altamirano kid related to Coach Eric?

I wonder if formosa will bring along their 5 imports for this tourney and if they're allowed to play more than 1 at a time. Pretty interesting to see how formidable these international teams are against local collegiate teams. In the last asiabasket international tourney, Benilde and Beda both reached the semis with 2 malaysian teams(tho mostly composed of pro and national team players).

Is the filam team related to to filam nation?

Phenom Bluefire is basically DLSU/CSB team B as bluefire of the Reyes's sponsors both lasallian teams and Phenom might lend a couple of its guys in both teams for this.

Csb wont have charles tiu and Rajko toroman along ynot and liwag. Interesting to see if they'll tap ojuala again who's been joining the practices again recently.
