AP: McGrady likely to sign with Hawks - Dec 8, 2011 (by Eurobasket News)

Two-time NBA scoring champion Tracy McGrady (6'8''-G/F-79), whose career was derailed by a series of injuries, will likely sign a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday night because signings can't be announced until the new NBA labor agreement is ratified.

The 32-year-old McGrady is a seven-time All-Star, but various physical problems have turned the once-dominant player into a part-timer. Last season, he averaged 8.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 72 games for the Detroit Pistons, his third team in the past two years.

The courting of McGrady likely signals the Hawks don't expect to re-sign their top player off the bench, Jamal Crawford, who has drawn plenty of interest from around the league.

ESPN first reported McGrady's deal with the Hawks.

McGrady was one of the league's top players, averaging more than 20 points a game in eight straight seasons and winning back-to-back scoring titles with the Orlando Magic. He put up a career-best average of 32.1 points in 2002-03.

But McGrady was criticized for never leading a team past the first round of the playoffs, and his production began to decline after he was dealt to the Houston Rockets in 2004.

Persistent back problems began to slow McGrady down. He then needed surgery on both his left shoulder and left knee. He played only 35 games with the Rockets in 2008-09 and just 30 the following season, which was split between Houston and the New York Knicks.

McGrady moved to Detroit last season and at least showed he was capable of making it through a full season, playing his most games since 2004-05. But he's just a role player these days, no longer capable of dominating a game.

While the Hawks are coming off a third straight year making it to the second round of the playoffs and have the core of their team returning, the loss of Crawford would be a major blow. He was named the NBA's best sixth man in 2010 and averaged 14.2 points a game last season, giving Atlanta an explosive scorer off the bench.

Lakers adding Jason Kapono as bench shooter - Dec 8, 2011 (by Eurobasket News)

The Lakers are strengthening their bench shooting by adding former UCLA product Jason Kapono (6'7''-F-81, college: UCLA).

Kapono is expected to sign Friday when the NBA lockout restrictions for free agency are lifted. Itll be interesting to see where new Lakers coach Mike Brown finds minutes for Kapono, who is primarily a small forward with outstanding shooting range and limited defensive prowess. But Browns new offense is expected to feature more spot-up 3-point opportunities than the outgoing triangle offense, with double-teams created in the post leaving shooters alone behind the arc.

Kapono, 30, hardly played last season on Philadelphias bench. He is a career 43.7 shooter from 3-point range which is practically off the charts and moves sore-backed Luke Walton further down on the teams depth chart. Metta World Peace, Matt Barnes and Devin Ebanks are other options at small forward, where Kobe Bryant can also operate.

Kapono, who is 6-foot-8, will get the veterans minimum salary of $1.2 million. He was UCLAs leading scorer all four years he was there (1999-2003).

Lakers training camp opens Friday at 10 a.m.

Celtics close to agreement with Marquis Daniels - Dec 8, 2011 (by Eurobasket News)

The Celtics are close to bringing back free agent forward Marquis Daniels (6'6''-F-81, agency: Priority Sports, college: Auburn), according to two league sources.

Daniels, whose 2010-11 season was halted by a bruised spinal cord, is expected to be here today for a physical. Teams can begin signing players tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Daniels spent the past two seasons in Boston as a crafty slasher and reliable defender. But injuries have plagued the 30-year-old, and last season included the scariest moment of his career.

After a collision with the Magic guard Gilbert Arenas Feb. 6, Daniels lay motionless on the TD Garden parquet before being carried off on a stretcher. He missed the remainder of the season.

The Celtics traded Daniels to the Kings Feb. 24 for a second-round pick in 2017. He had surgery in March.

A thumb injury limited Daniels to 51 games in 2009-10.

Nets close to signing Nene

Nets Close To Signing Nene
Dec 09, 2011 1:41 PM EST

The Nets are close to acquiring Nene, according to a source. Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Nets will offer Nene a four-year deal worth between $60 million and $65 million.

It’s unclear if signing Nene would take the Nets out of the running for Dwight Howard.

After the team missed out on Tyson Chandler, they increased their offer for Nene.

The Pacers, Rockets, Warriors and Nuggets have also been in on Nene talks.

Celtics trade Glen Davis to Orlando for Brandon Bass. Magic amnesties Gilbert Arenas.

and of course the secret is out by now. Tyson Chandler will sign with the New York Knicks. Odds of Mavs repeating - slim and none and I think slim just left town.

Hopefully Howard can still go to Jersey/Brooklyn. Jersey has more to offer Orlando than other teams IMHO. I'd hate to see Howard in a Lakers uni. Seriously can I live one decade that the lakers DON'T have a dynasty.

Pistons waive Richard Hamilton - not an amnesty cut. Possibly Rip will end up with Bulls.

The Chandler to New York deal will now be a sign and trade with the Mavs. Mavericks will receive a traded player exception and a low salaried player of the Knicks choosing.

Phoenix Suns waive Vince Carter. Carter close to signing with Mavericks.

David West to Boston is dead. West signs with Pacers (2yrs $20mil).

Memphis to match Houston's offer on RFA center Marc Gasol. (4yrs $55 mil)

The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers, the reigning NBA champions said on Sunday.

The Magic had already said they had given three clubs -- New Jersey,
Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers -- permission to talk about a trade
with Howard's agent.

Marc Gasol receives four-year, $55 million offer sheet from Houston Rockets - Dec 12, 2011 (by Eurobasket News)

The Houston Rockets seem to be determined to bring a 'Gasol' onto their roster this season. While talks have been up, down and back around in regards to Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol, now it seems that the Memphis Grizzlies' big man Marc Gasol (7'0''-C-85, agency: Interperformances) have been targeted by Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.

According to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski twitter feed, the Rockets are prepared to offer Marc Gasol a max-contract offer.

Houston's close to signing Marc Gasol to max-contract offer sheet, working a sign-and-trade with Memphis to secure him, league sources say. - @WojYahooNBA via Twitter
.The Grizzlies options would then be the following:

The Rockets are working to sign Marc Gasol to a 4 year, $55M offer sheet, sources tell Y! Memphis would have 3 days to match, or lose him. - @WojYahooNBA via Twitter .Even if Memphis matches the deal, it seems that Houston's supreme focus is to bring a quality big man to H-Town this season.
