Dakota Wizards to be sold to Golden State Warriors

Dakota Wizards to be sold to Golden State Warriors

The Dakota Wizards have announced that the team is being purchased and taken over by the Golden State Warriors. The D-League team will be relocated after the NBA D-League 2011-2012 Season.

The acquisition of the Wizards by Golden State will most likely end the Co-Affiliation by Golden State with the Reno Bighorns in which Golden State is sharing affiliation with the Sacramento Kings for the Reno Bighorns.

Are teams that don't currently have affiliates ie: Raptors, Jazz waiting until the labour issues are resolved before signing on with new ones? The Jazz should link up with Reno, while the Flash are inactive for the coming year.

Also, when Golden State moves the D-league Wizards, I think Fresno would be a good spot for them. Maybe change the name to something like the Fresno Fury.

I can't confirm as tried to search for leads and news but it seems the Raptors and Jazz are in no hurry to seek a D-League Affiliate.

I agree. Most of D-League franchises who relocate changes their team moniker.

Business As Usual For D-League During Lockout

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The NBA Development League may include the acronym NBA in their title, but when it comes to a lockout the league is all on their own.

"It's very much business as usual. We just had our national try-out camp 2 weeks ago where we had 263 prospective players in Louisville," NBA Development League President Dan Reed said.

With the NBA lockout in it's early stages, the D-League is looking ahead to its 11th season. If the lockout happens to cost the NBA games though, player assignments like the ones the Skyforce saw last season with Dexter Pittman and Jonny Flynn won't be allowed.

"If the lockout is in place players who played last year in the NBA or were drafted will not be eligible to play," Reed.

But Reed is confident that those players eligible to join the D-League will do so, rather than look to go overseas.

"We've established that we're the most highly scouted league in the world and that we've done a great job advancing our players careeers with now 23% of players in the NBA coming from the D-League," Reed said.
So even if the lockout drags on longer than expected, Reed says to feel free to plan ahead for Skyforce games this fall.

"Buy your Skyforce tickets and plan on coming out to the games because we plan to have a successful 11th season," Reed says.

Hornets to setup exclusive D-League franchise in the future

Hornets to setup exclusive D-League franchise in the future

According to the President of the New Orleans Hornets Hugh Weber, the Hornets are looking to establish in the future an exclusive D-League franchise for the Hornets that will be based in Louisiana.

Weber was quoted in Hornets247.com:

"If we send a player down to a shared team there’s no advantage. Having a D-League team owned and operated by the franchise allows far more control over player development, and having the team in-state would increase competition and interest and bodes well for nervous Hornets fans. This single-affiliation model is slowly taking root, though most D-League teams are still linked to multiple NBA franchises."

Man, this is great information for someone that likes to follow the NBADL. Thanks.
