I wrote 3 articles on my NBA blog about this issue and I'm posting them here mainly to get some feedback and also to give the fans a summary of the current situation of many teams as well as that of cities that are often mentioned as potential candidates for a new team. Point out any inaccuracies, comments or simply read and tell me what you think:

Cities looking for a team

NBA cities in danger

The NBA going global?

If any fans of a certain team were offended by one of my comments, I would like to apologize in advance.
Enjoy :)

That's some great job right there. Really informative. Thanks for sharing it with us. I was only aware of the Kings' and Hornets' problems and had no idea about the Sonics, which caught me by surprise. Las Vegas sounds like a cool new destination for a prospect team. I'd love to see one there. I bet they would choose a crickey name too!

Thanks for your answer JC and it's great talking to you again :)

I still say Vancouver should have another shot at an NBA team. Also, what about St. Louis? What makes them any less deserving than Kansas City or Oklahoma City?
I also think either Montreal or Calgary could support an NBA team. With the U.S. having 29 teams and possibly more in the future, Canada should have at least 2, maybe 3.

I didn't list St. Louis because I couldn't find anything about them being interested in getting a basketball team. OKC and KC have been far more active in their efforts of getting a team.

I probably should have listed Vancouver since there was some talk last year of them going after an NBA team, especially if the Sonics left Seattle, but I totally forgot about it! Good point though.

sonics have been having some monetary issues due in plain fact this team has jsut plainly been off the radar with poor performances for quite sometime. rumor on the block was it might move to oklahoma city since the owner who did or will eventually but it out of paul allen's hand is from oklahoma. also this would only happen if the OKC/NO hornets moved out of OKC.

I'm intrigued (and alarmed) by Stern talking about the possibility of affiliation with local leagues or NBA-sponsored minor leagues in South America and Africa.

some years ago he tried to get the PuertoRican league to be an NBA Affiliate but I suppose we rejected the idea.

Im more worried if he tries to develop a league that would compete with the Latin American local leagues.

Hmmm...

About the European expansion, arent you forgetting the European champion, with the largest attendance in the Euroleague???

When a franchise would be setted in Mexico Df maybe i could believe an european expansion.

How I wish there's only one Los Angeles, on why the Clippers moved from Buffalo to San Diego and become the "other" LA team.

Why can't Vancouver have a team?

Why can't Vancouver have a team?

I heard in an Interview that Stern would consider..do you think there is viability?

Newark pushes for an NBA franchise

Newark pushes for an NBA franchise

An Associate Group in Newark, New Jersey has started a campaign for a potential NBA franchise since the New Jersey Nets will move to Brooklyn, New York within the foreseeable future. The group is composed of Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Governor Chris Christie, New Jersey Devils owner and chairman of Devils Arena Entertainment Jeff Vanderbeek, and Shaquille O'Neal.

Would they be called Brooklyn Nets in the near future, in the same way Sacramento will likely moved to Anaheim.

Most likely, the New Jersey Nets will be named as the Brooklyn Nets when the franchise opens their 2012-2013 Season on the Barclays Arena on Brooklyn. The Nets are to announce the new moniker soon.

This is why Newark is pushing for an NBA franchise via relocation or expansion. A relocation is the most viable as David Stern once stated that the League won't expand to no more than thirty teams after the Charlotte Bobcats became the 30th team in the NBA.

Regarding Sacramento and Anaheim, there has been progress on both cities that are on a tug of war for the Kings franchise. Sacramento has drawn up a blue print and the overall costs to build the new arena. The problem is there has yet been a solid Finance Plan to build the arena that costs $375 Million.

David Stern and the NBA Board of Governors had issued a prompt deadline of 2012 for the city of Sacramento and the Maloof Brothers on presenting an approved Finance for the construction. If both parties have not drawn a credible finance plan, the Kings franchise will relocate to Anaheim indefinitely.

Anaheim is also committing to upgrade the facilities of the Honda Center so as to show a serious bid for the Kings franchise.
