What a way to start it off with Greg Oden getting injured in his first NBA game (Damn this guy has bad luck!!) I hope he recovers really soon.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Portland rookie Greg Oden's highly anticipated NBA debut didn't last long Tuesday night. He left the game against the Los Angeles Lakers late in the first half with a foot injury after taking four shots and going scoreless.

The severity of his injury wasn't immediately known.

Oden, taken by Portland with the first pick in the 2007 draft, missed all last season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee."

"Spurs' Oberto out two games with irregular heartbeat

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Argentine forward Fabricio Oberto will miss the San Antonio Spurs' first two games of the NBA season after undergoing treatment for an irregular heartbeat.

Oberto told Spurs trainers during practice on Tuesday that he felt a fluttering in his heart. A heart test confirmed the abnormal rhythm, known as atrial fibrillation. He underwent a procedure late Tuesday to restore his heart's normal rhythm.

The Spurs said Oberto will have daily heart tests for the next five days. If his heartbeat remains normal, he is expected to return next Tuesday for the home game against Dallas. San Antonio opened the season on Wednesday against Phoenix.

The 33-year-old Oberto played in all 82 games last season, averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game".

These cases of irregular heart beats amongst NBA players is becoming quite common these days and can be quite worrying (If i'm not mistaken Brian Scalabrine and Etan Thomas (just to name a few) suffered serious problems due to irregular heartbeat complications).

NEW YORK (AP) -- Milwaukee guard Michael Redd sprained his right ankle in the third quarter of the Bucks' 94-86 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday night and did not return.



Redd was hurt when he landed awkwardly chasing a loose ball late in the period, a play that ended with Andrew Bogut's dunk to give the Bucks a 72-56 lead with 2:19 remaining. Redd checked out seconds later and went to the locker room.

"It hurts right now. It hurts," Redd said after the game. "Just got to take it day by day, continue to get treatment on it. Little swollen, but I didn't hear anything crack or anything. It's a high ankle sprain right now."

Redd scored 16 points, making all three 3-point attempts, before leaving."

Hope the injury isn't serious. Milwaukee can't afford losing their no. 1 scorer and main star.

"SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker will miss two to four weeks with a sprained left ankle he suffered in the Spurs' 99-83 loss to the Miami Heat on Friday.

X-rays were negative on Parker, who coach Gregg Popovich said will probably be out two to four weeks. Parker, who scored a career-high 55 points in a win over Minnesota on Wednesday, was expected to undergo an MRI on Saturday.

Parker was diagnosed with a moderate lateral ankle sprain, said Dr. Paul Saenz, a team physician. Teammate Tim Duncan said Parker walked out on crutches limping.

Parker's loss leaves the Spurs only with only one of their "Big Three" -- Parker, Duncan and Manu Ginobili, who've led the Spurs to three NBA titles since 2003. Ginobili is still recovering from offseason ankle surgery, and isn't expected to be back until December at the earliest.

Parker's follow-up to his brilliant game against the Timberwolves didn't last 10 minutes. He rolled his left ankle with 2:06 left in the first quarter on a drive to the basket, missing the shot before crouching and wincing over on the baseline.

Parker got up, limped a few steps behind the basket and then gently bent down again. The Spurs said X-rays on Parker were negative.

"The NBA is a challenge," Popovich said. "Even when players are healthy, it's a challenge."

It's certainly been a challenge without Ginobili. With him out, the Spurs have leaned almost exclusively on Parker and Duncan for offense.

The duo has been responsible for 59 percent of San Antonio's scoring entering Friday's game, and had taken 55 percent of the team's shots.Parker was 2-of-5 from the field and scored four points before leaving the game.

He entered Friday leading the league in scoring at 33.3 points a game."

What a blow to the Spurs! First Ginobili and now Parker. That's more than 60% of the teams' power and energy gone.

"Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and will miss up to three months.

Hinrich was hurt Friday night in Chicago's 100-83 victory over Phoenix.

"I'm frustrated," Hinrich said Saturday. "I worked hard in the offseason. I'm still trying to figure out how long 12 weeks is going to be and, really, what I'm going to do with myself."

Hinrich, making his first start, was injured in the third quarter trying to knock the ball away from Amare Stoudemire, The guard initially thought he hyperextended the thumb but realized it was more serious as the swelling mounted.

Even so, he didn't expect this diagnosis.

The Bulls initially called it a sprain, but an exam before Saturday night's game against Cleveland revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

"I was going home last night thinking maybe in a couple days I'd be feeling better," Hinrich said. "I was kinda shocked that I find out today I had torn a ligament."

It's the first major injury for Hinrich, who said he has never had surgery. The operation is scheduled for Tuesday.

"It's tough to swallow," coach Vinny Del Negro said before the Bulls played Cleveland. "I feel bad for him. Without question, it affects the team."

The injury creates a leadership void and leaves the Bulls without a reliable backup point guard behind No. 1 draft pick Derrick Rose.

"We're going to be real careful," general manager John Paxson said. "We're looking at the (luxury) tax number. We've already talked about some things. I'm going to sit down (Sunday) and take a look at the available people out there (and) how does it work with us in the tax line."

In his sixth season, Hinrich was averaging 8.3 points and 4.0 assists in mostly a backup role now that Rose is in the fold. The Bulls went with Thabo Sefolosha at shooting guard the first five games but he struggled, so Del Negro started Hinrich with Rose against the Suns.

On Saturday, Ben Gordon started at shooting guard and the Bulls might stick with him for at least a few games. When they drafted Rose, they envisioned him penetrating and passing out to an open Gordon on the perimeter, and they figure to get more time together now that Hinrich is hurt.

But who will back up Rose?

Larry Hughes is expected to participate in contact drills this week and will add depth to the backcourt once he returns after dislocating his right shoulder in the preseason, but he's not a point guard. Ballhandling is not a strength of Gordon or Sefolosha.

"We know Derrick's going to play those 35 to 40 minutes a night," general manager John Paxson said. "It's those other minutes that you get a little bit concerned about."

Besides Hinrich, forward Drew Gooden sat out with a sprained right ankle. He is day to day."

It's going to be tough for the Bulls to play without their 2nd point guard. This is going to add alot of pressure on their rookie Derrick Rose who will play knowing that he can't afford getting into foul trouble.

They have one win, and had only 3 dangerous guys. So, or the other players step up, and they grad 2-3 wins, or they stay at 1 until end of november.

Deron Williams went for a second opinion on his sprained left ankle and learned that his timetable for returning would be four to six weeks as opposed to the minimum two weeks that the Jazz originally set after the Oct. 18 injury.
"They just said two weeks because they knew I didn't want to hear four to six weeks, probably," Williams said at Friday's pregame shootaround. "Dr. [Lyle] Mason knows me. Now I wish they would have, so I wouldn't have got my hopes up."
Williams said he believed he was "ahead of schedule" as far as his recovery, but his availability for the Jazz's upcoming five-game road trip is far from certain. If he did miss four weeks, Williams wouldn't play until after the Jazz return home.
Williams said he would like to get in a full practice before playing for the first time. The Jazz won't have the opportunity before Sunday's game at New York and will play four games in five nights after that to finish the trip.
The two sets of back-to-back games are far from ideal for a player returning from injury, which led Williams to suggest that he would "maybe do the Matt Harpring and play one of them."
Williams said the doctor who gave him the second opinion reexamined his original MRI exam results. He did not know if he suffered a more severe sprain than what was initially believed.
Although he is making progress, Williams said he was still feeling pain and discomfort, especially when he tried to make spin moves. "I wouldn't want to put myself in that position right now to be hurt," he said.
With the Jazz opening 4-0, there is little pressure for Williams to rush back before he is fully healed. "I think we have a couple more winnable ball games without me."

Smith is expected to be out two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain. He suffered the injury trying to block a shot. When he came down he landed on Zaza Pachulia’s foot and fell to the ground. He got up and limped off the floor, eventually making it to the locker room where the Hawks’ team doctors examined him. Pachulia replaced him in the starting lineup at the start of the second half."

It's another headache for coach Larry Brown, who has struggled to get the Bobcats to become consistent on offense. Charlotte is averaging 87.3 points per game, second worst in the NBA.

Richardson is averaging 17.6 points and shooting 39 percent from 3-point range. He led Charlotte with 23 points in an 88-80 loss to Denver on Tuesday that dropped the Bobcats to 2-5 in Brown's first season.

Richardson's absence will likely mean more playing time for Adam Morrison, who scored 16 points off the bench against the Nuggets and has played well in his return from knee surgery.

Still, Richardson's injury further depletes a thin roster. The Bobcats failed to make an offseason move to shore up the frontline despite putting small forward Gerald Wallace on the trading block.

Wallace could still be traded as Charlotte looks for a big man to open up the offense.

Richardson's absence leaves Charlotte without its most consistent outside scoring threat, too. Richardson led the NBA with 243 3-pointers last season, and has scored 20 or more points four times this season.

DENVER -- Denver Nuggets center Steven Hunter was expected to be sidelined at least 12 weeks after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday.

Hunter had the surgery at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail.

Hunter has had a chronic knee problem that was aggravated in training camp.

The Nuggets acquired Hunter from Philadelphia last season in a trade that sent forward Reggie Evans to the 76ers."

"OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Thunder forward Desmond Mason will miss about 10 days with a sprained right elbow.

Mason, a reserve averaging 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds, said Monday night that he hurt the elbow in the Thunder's third game of the season against Minnesota and it flared up worse after their game Friday against the New York Knicks.

"We decided it's best to sit down for a few days so it doesn't get any worse and I don't hit it again," Mason said before Oklahoma City's game against the Houston Rockets. "It was the doctors' decision on that one. I couldn't talk them out of it."

The Thunder expect to re-evaluate Mason's elbow in 10 days.

"When it doesn't hurt any more, I'm good to go. It's just one of those things where it has to heal itself," said Mason, who had a season-high 18 points against Utah while playing through the injury. "It's simple treatment: ice and make sure I don't re-aggravate it and things like that. Hopefully in that 10-day timeframe, I'm good to go."

Coach P.J. Carlesimo expected backup Damien Wilkins to get extra playing time in Mason's place, and said guards Russell Westbrook and Kyle Weaver could also eat up some of Mason's minutes".

"ATLANTA (AP) -- Hawks center Al Horford was held out of Wednesday night's game against the Washington Wizards with a sprained right ankle.

The decision was made after Horford tested the ankle in pregame warmups.

"If I can't go at the level I try to play every night, I won't go because I won't be helping the team," Horford said.

Hawks coach Mike Woodson confirmed about 90 minutes before the game that Horford would not play. Woodson said Zaza Pachulia, who returned from a shoulder injury on Tuesday night, would start at center.

The Hawks also were without another starter, forward Josh Smith, who missed his seventh straight game with a sprained left ankle.

"We've got some beat-up bodies right now," Woodson said, adding Smith could miss another four or five games.

Horford left Tuesday night's loss at Indiana with 5:21 left in the first quarter with the ankle injury and did not return. X-rays were negative."
