8-Philippines
9-Chinese Taipei
10-Syria
IMO teams ranked 5th to 8th are very close. I sort them by alphabet !

no, we are not strong as evidenced by the bad results in the last tourneys or so...though we want to think otherwise

Hehehe. That statement will infuriate our friends who put their hearts out first rather than their reason. But I agree with you that we sucked in the recent past. But expect slightly different results in the next few years or so.

Is the Philippines strong ?
I am pretty sure the top asian basketball playing nations wouldn't like to face the Philippine national team in their first game or be in the same group bracket. The Philippines still command great respect from other asian countries as a traditional asian powerhouse despite not performing well in recent years, which most filipinos blamed on too much sports politics that resulted to its FIBA suspension.
However, asian countries share this kind of common respect when facing each other in basketball that they are very much capable of beating each other in a good given night with of course the exception of China which I believe is now beyond asia and confirmed itself as a world class beater - but not that invincible.
But going back to your original question, is the Philippines strong ? I would say yes, until proven otherwise...

No offense taken my friend, sorting the 5th to 8th team rankings in alphabetical order was fair enough but I would rather prefer the Philippines be on 9th place based on the last 2007 FIBA-Asia championship in Japan. Like most basketball crazy filipinos, we really believe to be underrated............

No point prolonging the matter of course. The Philippines are not the best Asian team and are not even among the best 5, it's just the way it is k3v1nski. Wanting the team to improve is another story, we all want that and hopefully the RP team will get back on top.
