Thanks. I will look into this further. Right now, I do hope that some of the Canadian Channels I have on my satellite TV will show some NBL Games. One channel shows Canadian sports like Hockey and Football.

Halifax, Saint John, Quebec release protected lists

By BRIAN FREEMAN Sports Reporter
Sun, Jul 31 - 4:54 AM
The three teams that can shield players from their new partners in the National Basketball League of Canada have submitted their protected lists to the league office.

The Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Mill Rats and Quebec Kebs — the NBL’s founding franchises — are permitted to protect five players each from their 2010-11 season in the Premier Basketball League, keeping them off limits to the four other clubs in an Aug. 21 draft and for several weeks afterward.

Rainmen owner Andre Levingston, the NBL’s interim president, and Mill Rats president and general manager Ian McCarthy, its interim chief operating officer, confirmed Saturday night the 15 players whose teams will have exclusive negotiating rights with them until Oct. 1.

The Kebs will protect forward Quinnel Brown, the 2010-11 PBL MVP, along with guard Royce Parron and three former Rainmen: centre Aaron Spears, guard Tommy Mitchell and forward Cordell Jeanty.

The Mill Rats’ list of untouchables consists of guards Anthony Anderson, Dwuan Rice and Marc Egerson, and forwards Steve DeLuca and Ross Demasi.

The Rainmen are protecting guards Taliek Brown and Trayvon Lathan, forwards Josh Dollard and Eric Crookshank, and centre DeAndre Thomas.

The first round of the inaugural NBL draft is limited to free agent players, while the second and third rounds are for Canadian players only. Each NBL team has to carry at least two Canadians on its 10- to 12-man roster.

The Rainmen have the sixth selection in the draft. Oshawa will choose first, followed by the P.E.I. franchise, London and Moncton. The Mill Rats pick fifth and the Kebs seventh.

National Basketball League of Canada Announces Oshawa Franchise
August 8, 2011 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)

(TORONTO, ON) The National BasketballLeague of Canada is pleased to announce that the city of Oshawa, Ontario has been formally accepted as the first expansion team to join the league in its inaugural season.
"What a great day for the NBL Canada and for the city of Oshawa," said National Basketball League of Canada President & CEO, Andre Levingston. "We are thrilled to bring professional basketball to this city. Oshawa's team will not only provide an extremely high level of basketball and family entertainment, but will also serve as a fantastic vehicle to support the community through both traditional and creative ways of giving back."

Levingston says that he and the team's ownership group are looking forward to continuing to build a working relationship between the NBL and Oshawa's municipality.

"Oshawa's city officials have been supportive of the team's approval process, and are keen to bring exciting entertainment to its region."

In early November, the team will tip off at the General Motors Centre where they will play an 18 regular season home game schedule.

The team is currently holding an online contest to allow the city to name its first-ever professional basketball team. Those interested can submit their suggestions online at www.durhamnblcanada.com.

Isaac Olowolafe Jr. is a registered real estate broker and successful business owner. Mr. Olowolafe Jr. is the President & CEO of both Dream Maker Realty Inc. (DMR) and Dream Fund Holdings (DFH).

Basketball is one of the fastest growing sports in Canada and to have an avenue like the NBL, it will greatly help to showcase the burgeoning talent Canada has and give Canadian players the opportunity to play the sport they love in front of their friends and family.

HENRY CHOW

President of Uptown Communications

Henry Chow of Uptown Wireless is one of the Canada's largest authorized dealers for Rogers Communications, providing the latest communication products and services to corporate and retail customers in the Greater Toronto Area for over 25 years.

Oshawa has the existing basketball infrastructure and with its long history of sports culture, promises to emerge and flourish as a flagship NBL franchise while offering tremendous basketball action and outstanding entertainment value.

MARK TAYLOR

Highly Recognized Canadian Actor

Toronto native Mark Taylor is a veteran actor who's credits include "Seventeen Again" and "Student Bodies". He also received Gemini nominations for his roles in "Flashpoint", " Doomstown" and "Drop the Beat"

The growth of basketball in the last 10-15 years has been tremendous and shows we have just as much talent in this country as anywhere else in the world. All we need is the effort to harness this talent and I know the NBL will be the league to get that job done.

LEE-EL HARDING

Industrial Scaffolding Business

Lee-El Harding has been previously been involved with marketing and sales at Rogers cable and also has been a part of management teams and a lead hand on various projects for industrial scaffolding in Alberta. Though very successful in both endeavours, this is not where his heart truly lies.

The possibilities are endless and a professional league like the NBL will keep home grown talent right here where they belong. The opportunities to develop young men athletically and professionally through the creation of jobs and unique skill sets will only enhance the landscape of the sport here in Canada.

Prince Edward Island has officially been approved to join the NBL Canada. The announcement on whether they play in Charlottetown or Summerside or both will be made later this week.

TORONTO -- Morgan Lewis is the fledgling National Basketball League's first ever draft pick.

The six-foot-four, 210-pound native from Painesville, Ohio, was chosen first by the Oshawa Power on Sunday as the seven-team league conducted its inaugural draft at the Rogers Centre's Summit Suite.

Justin Garris was drafted second by Summerside, P.E.I.

Jerome Brown was the first Canadian to go in the start-up league, which begins its season Oct. 29. Each club plays 36 games with the top four teams advancing to playoffs in March.

Brown, a six-foot-four, 205-pounder from Toronto, was taken fifth by the Saint John Mill Rats, while Quebec selected fellow Toronto native Tristan Martin with the final choice in the first round.

The NBL is the creation of Andre Levingston and Ian McCarthy, formed when three existing teams -- the Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Mill Rats and Quebec Kebs -- left the Premier Basketball League amid complaints of poor management.

Four NBL franchises have since been formed: the London Lightning and Oshawa, plus two still-to-be-named teams in Moncton, N.B., and Summerside.

The Halifax Rainmen have signed former NBAers Eddie Robinson and Rodney Buford.

Buford? How do you spell trouble? Bremerhaven has nice things to tell about him.
Eddie Robinson...I guess they just need both for promotional use.

Yay for the London Lighting! The capacity of the John Labatt Centre in which they will play is about 11,000 for basketball. Hopefully they'll draw decent crowds of several thousand fans.

I wonder if there will be any Canadian content requirements for the teams?

Summerside Storm has signed University of Saskatchewan standout, Troy Gottselig. Gottselig won the Most Valuable Player Award in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championship in 2010.
