Matas Buzelis Thread

The way how they move and overall I like Buzelis more than Jakucionis tbh but Jakucionis has a higher floor but Buzelis has the way higher ceiling. On the other hand the probability that Buzelis fails is way higher. Everyone is looking for this ball handling passing big who is a walking mismatch but the rate of a success story is very low.

Few years ago I would had gone the same way, but now I don't think this way anymore. Couple of years ago scouts had Barca's Italian Sarr as more NBA material than Jakucionis. Now time passed and he's coining reputation of franchise changing lead guard. It's still a bit of gamble, but people even throw Nash and better Dragic comparisons (Dragic made All NBA third team one season). I'm not sure any more KJ has lower ceiling. I mean if Buzelis develops into some kind of Durant, sure. But KJ now is often projected as superstar tier when it comes to prospects (meaning he's top 3). Off course, last night he screwed with personal fouls and had a game off when we talk :D Bet he'll bounce back. He's only yet to unleash that 30+/10/10 game which is inevitably coming at some point.

Yup, Buzelis will be a beast defensively. Already elite defender in the NBA. Best shot blocker of Bulls and he's just a rookie. Matas will be a glue guy defensively for the NT. We never had such dynamic shot blocker since young Arvydas Sabonis (well, we didn't have him in the NT, just in Zalgiris). He's gonna be our Batum with even more offense. Or more like Kirilenko defensively.

Buzelis plays 24mpg last 3 games and nailed exactly 12pts in each of these. Give him starters minutes and he would provide decent starter's numbers and with time there's obvious All Star and probably All NBA upside. Specially knowing that he's good at both ends. Moves nicely:

And he shoots 50% threes last 4 games when he started to play +20 minutes.

Hell probably play consistently till the end of the season since Bulls are in the rebuilding process. Not very competitive games but still a good chance to get used to the league.

True. Some-one sumed up this perfectly - Buzelis roy campaigned started since his last 4 games :) Anyway, this shift of Bulls is very convenient for Buzelis and the NT. I'm not entirely sure he's getting +20 consistently still, but his playing time at the very least should be +15 each night now and that's OK for the first season. He should have several +20 performances as well playing bigger role. Just be out there and learn. No-one will be too disappointed with couple of horrible games too. So he's in perfect situation to learn now.

Well it didn't take too long, huh? :D Haters speechless. Matas broke all time Bulls rookie record with 10 shots nailed 100%. Meaning Jordan, Pipen, Kukoc, Rose never did that. Anyway, he showed all variety of skills. On ball scoring and off ball scoring. That match-up against Jovic was symbolic too.

Also Matas Buzelis is the youngest player in NBA history to score 20+ PTS without ANY misses.

Very impressive 10/10...That's rare to see. He has all star potential.

Buzelis with the first start and finished with 14pts. I liked 3 blocks, 3 steals. Nice to see all this. Hopefully Bulls draft Jakucionis, it would be good for the NT cause now Bulls seem to be pretty determined to tank. He would play as a back-up for Giddey for a year or two and then hopefully would start. KJ hit the roookie wall now (maybe he should party here and there after all?), but he'll bounce back.

Sabonis playing with JV won't hurt also, looking forward to EB 2025. Not very relevant long term anymore though.

Buzelis says that big summer awaits for him, like working on his game and adding bulk. When I hear that bulk moment I creep out remembering JV's first off season. And JV will be a lot with Matas in the off season :D Got bless, Matas, just don't put that stupid mass on. Just work very gradually on lean muscle, there's no point to push it for it. Stay agile and explosive. It will the key moment cause you can easily fuck up all of this and from super Saric you can become whatever the fuck there is Saric f.e. And I'm wondering if NT commitment is 100% safe at this point. It's probably not. He may feel that he wants to work on his game and Bulls would kinda suggest to do that instead of FIBA. I wouldn't dramatize that, it makes sense (and Domas did that in his first off season), but I still hope to see Matas with NT jerseys 2025 EB.

I kinda expected such an attitude. It sounds like he wont participate in Eurobasket 25 and it increases the possibility Buzelis is another case of Isaiah Hartenstein.

LOL, you would wish that so much, don't you? :D

hahahahah no, actually, I dont care but it seems so but we will see.

There's zero chance for Hartenstein case. His father is NT staff member, or at least ex, and Buzelis said plenty of times he will represent his fathers homeland. Both his parents are ballers and true Lithuanians. ATM it's more that we will see Matas in EB than not, let alone 2027 and 2028.

16pts as a starter again. Matas will bounce back into ROY conversation with this, IMO. He doesn't need the bulk. Some of his drives are already physical enough, he moves people with his burst and explosiveness. No need to slow your feet with extra mass. Love his current situation, balling and experiencing what he has to. Perfect situation.
