Battle of the two young teams between Turkey and Canada.

The Turkish team, touted to be one of the weakest in history but led by the legendary Ergin Ataman, have been on a roller coaster ride so far, demolishing the Philippines by 35 at home but winning by only 8 against Gilas on the road.

Canada on the other hand, will have fewer NBA players than expected due to free agency issues. Tristan Thompson, fresh from an NBA championship, will play.

Canada has better roster and quality however I want to bring the experience factor into the forefront while evaluating this match-up. The international game experience of Canadian players may pose a problem for them. We have already witnessed countless times that the fancy teams, that don't have enough experience for this platform, were getting into a lather when they face toughness. I watched couple of games of them in prep period, it is safe to say that Canada doesn't make tiny distinctions which is one of the essentials of international game, they are playing too carelessly but still manage to be effective due to the quality individual talents. Also let's keep in mind that this Canada team has just came together and may need more time to form their game-schema and organization. Even though Canada is being the favorite side, there are some doubts addressing their performance.

As for our team, we are extremely limited on offense and don't have a single player who can be described as the leader. Osman is setting his mind on this role but not sure if he is ready, may be overwhelmed with this responsibility. The sad part is that we are quite predictable team when it comes to offense, the maximum of this team is well known and for causing a surprise, we will need more than our maximum which is out of question. So, just concentrate on defense and make easy buckets coming from their turnovers. Only this scenario will boost our chance which is already not so high.

From what I have seen during our tune-up games with you guys, I think Erden, Osman, and Dixon can take the role of primary scorers, but I like how this Turkish team does not rely on only one man to carry the whole team, each player's strengths complement each others weaknesses. Dixon is one of the best PG's in international ball, Guler is tough on D, Erden is a beast inside the post and from mid-range, and your wings shoot the 3 very well, those 3's killed us during the tune-up games. Overall, I like this Turkish team for IMO they epitomize teamwork the most out of all the OQT teams in Manila.

The only concern I have with this Turkish team is Omer Asik. What happened to him? He's not himself lately. In the NBA, he used to be a hustle-type bigman, getting all the rebounds he can for his team. Right now, he gets outplayed at times and gets easily frustrated. I hope he comes around during the OQT. Your team really needs him right now, especially inside the paint.

Canada is always hard to predict, when they're on they are very good but they're prone to lapses and immaturity. It always seems they're either blowing a team out or losing a close game.

Charge it to lack of experience in the international game. Give them maybe 5 years together and they can legit challenge Team USA in the Americas.

He is in the shadow of his peak for sure because of basketball relevant and irrelevant reasons. He has been known as a hardworking character and been shown as a model for young players for years however his current condition is unfortunately wretched. Okay, he has never been an offensive weapon throughout his career however both in Rockets and Bulls, he had been given some chances on offensive to give a good account of himself as the reward of his defensive contribution. In Pelicans the way he is used is really not for the benefit of him. Anthony Davis is dominating every offensive possession there and basically Ömer even doesn't touch the ball on offense and none of the specific sets are played on him. Not saying that he can be effective as an offensive solution, however it is also ridiculous passing him over offense. Because of his role in team, he is not happy and doesn't enjoy basketball anymore. He is like someone who ''has to'' play basketball just because he has a contract. He is suffering from burnout syndrome. Also, one notable thing is that his feet has became slower and having big big problems while guarding the mobile bigs that's why his minutes were not sufficient for his standards. Another thing is that some saying that he has problems in private life and having difficulties to concentrate on basketball. I don't know the latter is true or not, but players are not robots, they may have bad times too. I hope whatever his problem is, he can solve it out immediately since he still has a lot of things to offer Turkish basketball. He is only 30 but acting like a 36 yo player who has finished basketball in his mind.

I wouldn't bet for any team for winning tomorrow. But i can say that Canada has a better squad as some of us has already stated.. As for Asik, Turkish coach stated that he is not in a good shape since he is not training for almost 2 months after the season finishes early for New Orleans.

Exactly.. I am expecting Canada totaly outplaying Turkey or lose a close game.

I unfortunately agree with this completely.

I can t see how useful Tristan Thompson can be with just joining the team for the first time in Manila. And Cory Joseph playing only the last warm up game isn't helpful at all.
Still I have been somewhat impressed with Canada's playin in the warm up games with limited roster.

I couldn't see prep games of Canada but it seems our only chance is let Canadian players sleep until the 4th period than make our move. Our offense is limited and we will rely heavily on the 3pt shooting.

Another note, Ataman is known for letting some games go if it is feasible. Given probably two teams will beat Senegal, there are two options for us: Beat Canada now and probably get rid of France in semi final, or lose this game and try to win semi final and final. Later one, beating probably first France and then Canada in successive days seems highly unlikely for us. So I think Ataman won't give up today's game.

Only advantage of Turkey is playing together compared to Canada.
Canada is better when you compare them with Turkish team but if they start playing individual and selfish then Turkey might easily take control.
Also 3 pts percentage is a key factor...
Don't forget this team upsetted Italy and only remarkable change is (which is a very key one) absence of Ersan Ilyasova. Otherwise rest of the major team back again.
I am also not happy with the team but still has something to offer...

Everything is already said, nothing new to add. Canada better on paper, but that's not all that matters in team sport. So any outcome wouldn't be surprising. Looking forward to entertaining game, hope finally to see some good fight till the end, that never really happened yesterday in any game

Canada looks heavy favourite. I still don't expect huge margin defeat. Our advantage is we are more "team" than Canada, that's it. On the paper, difference is so huge, very hard to make it up.

Just saw that Turkey got a late boost to their hopes to win today. Pukl and Perez Perez are refs, some of the key fixer refs from Euroleague. I think they have just provided about 10 points to Turkey. The game might be close.

After first half, we can't cope with Canada's athleticsm and we can't shoot.
Dixon is lost. He is 0/5 (0/4 3pts) 3 tos.
I can't see a win...

I don't know if Canada really wants to stake their Olympic hopes on Joseph's midrange jumpers, but a good half for them anyway.

turkey struggling to get points. inside scoring is not present for them.
