It is so nice to see the MPBL having live games on Youtube and FB , with good quality videos

I can see even the Philippine Football League is also having live coverage on Youtube/FB.

One Sports/TV5 live coverage has become irrelevant.

the Jr MPBL may expand outside the Philippines come 2025.

it seems that it is a bold and ambitious endeavour if it is a Conference Type of a(Regular Season) format like there's an elimination round, semifinals and the finals

if it is a tournament type of a format with a single round robin, cross-over sems and the finals that I think is more feasible and ideal considering the plan is to parade teams from the 4 Divisions e.g. 14U, 16U, 18U and 21U

the possibility that if the plan is to invite teams across the US region(East Coast to West Coast) they should invite Fil-Am teams as well.

“Today marks a significant step forward as we are expanding our reach beyond borders. We are engaging in talks with states across the US regions, UK, and various parts of Europe for Jr. MPBL expansion,” said the 45-year-old former senator.

“This global initiative aims to elevate the visibility of Filipino basketball talent on an international stage, opening doors for our young athletes to compete and excel on a broader platform.”

Good idea if the funding is there. If not, just the same level of kids that make up NBTC or probably lower.

Sir Sikat,

the possibility that kids from the NBTC and Manila Live games will be the one who will represents those overseas team which I think would be beneficial if the purpose is to discover potential Batang Gilas prospects.

and at the same time establish a strong heritage connection to those hafus and merits for possible exemption moving forward.

I think it's just perfect, the NBTC Finals mostly started during the first week of every March and Jr. MPBL starts there own tourney a few weeks after that.

the only challenge for that particular schedule is that school years in the US and Europe ended in June and it's not fair to those overseas kids to skip the remaining months esp. during final exams and other school commitments.

One thing more, prices of plane tickets are a headache nowadays. I do hope they could come up with a common grounds, hmm maybe they could ask for PAL for a possible sponsorship moving forward, hoping that the late Bong Tan's family had the heart for grassroot development.

I do hope that issues that besets before on QMB, Sage, Holt, Jalen, Kamaka, Ron Jr and others may somehow be address because of these endeavour.

SBP should really collaborate with the Pacman on this as part of their Grassroot Development and Talent Identification.

Here's an insight about this youth travel tournaments...

For the most part, it's a "for-profit business." To attend this tournaments/camps, participants have to pay (hundreds of dollars), add to that the cost of travel (for the family), game tickets (usually $20+/day per person, etc. Cost is even more if they intend to have grand tournaments in the Philippines. It's big business. Out of all the participants, you would usually have about less than 10% who are actual realistic prospects. If they're famous enough, they get to go for free.

We can't get our hopes up too much if "identifying" Batang Gilas prospects is the goal with this tournament. If participants are realistic with their expectations and are joining for the experience, then all well and good.

The real prospects are playing in Open tournaments (all races accepted). That's where funding should be funneled, to identify and convince prospects in those type of tournaments.

Sir Mets,

Yup that's true.

thank you for educating us on some details.

for a basketball fan(s) point of view, it's delightful to see kids play

the more exposure the better

if it is an Open tournament the better as well.

we do hope they would also include a girls division on this.

the bottomline really is the money, because whatever good intention and bright ideas they had if there are challenges financially.

it is really difficult to move around.

off-topic:

with the surprise resignation of Boss Jimmy Cheng and majority of his staff for our Girls and Womens Football due to some power tripping(?) issues on the new PFF leadership

I do hope our top tier players and soon to be included will not be discourage to represent us in the coming tournaments.

Science na Science building na naman ito.

the Girls and Women programs are already healthy.

now were back again to square one.

nakaka bad trip ang mga sports leader na yan.(trans. attitude problem of some co-workers are really a pain in the a$$ on all level).

I can see that leagues like this proposed MPBL can be a good platform for filfors aspiring to get noticed by Philippines schools. Much like how NBTC has been. But again, in terms of financing, if it is run well it should be self-sustaining. No need for the government or anyone else to help in funding.

For prospects that are Batang Gilas level...if they ever plan on joining this league, that means they have already been identified/interested. In their cases, once they get identified, the Philippine school coaches come to them. So again, no need for help in funding.

If identification of undiscovered Batang Gilas prospects is the true goal, funding will be better used somewhere else. For one, I think it's about time that we have a network in place to monitor the "biggest annual tournaments." There's really only a handful of them in the whole country so in terms of logistics it's not impossible. Divisions are also divided into ages, so just keep an eye on the 14-15 year old divisions. This is where you will find prospects like Sanderson, Tolentino and Miller.

Like you said we have limited resources, efficient use of those funds is important.

Sir Mets,

for now, the only help we could do for Pilipinas basketball and Philippine Sports as a whole is thru this platform.

we could talk, discuss, post, mention, suggest, recommend anything for the betterment of Philsports in a fan's point of view.

I know and I am fully aware that many of us here had a portion of his heart that says "Walastik!! kung meron lang talaga akong sobrang pera mag-aambag talaga ako ng walang iniisip na kapalit, makabasa at maka panood lang ako ng Philippine team na nanalo sa World Stage tanggal lahat ng pagod at stress ko pag uwi ko galing ng trabaho, siyempre kasama na sa pagpapasaya yung makita ko un mga mahal ko sa buhay na masaya at walang mga sakit. the best na sa akin yan."

trans. realistically speaking we only had an exact amount in our respective pocket otherwise if we don't work, hunger games will creep us along the way.

good thing there's a lot of well to do Filipinos who also had a heart on Philippine Sports.

Demarcus Cousins headed to the Zamboanga Valientes hahahaha, im not even gonna question how they can afford these ex nba players

An international MBPL league sounds fun and it will probably be a good way of identifying mid-tier prospects. Players who have the skill and interest to play for colleges in the Philippines.

Elite Fil-Am players are likely looking to get into a US college or University... hoping for D1. If theyre good enough to be on one of the shoe circuit teams then we likely wouldnt see them in a Filipino league.

But someone the Fil-Ams who aren't at shoe circuit level may join a Filipino team for visibility and keeping options open. Thats a positive part of the social media culture. They might be cognizant of the fact that being Filipino can be part of their brand, so they'll be more open to leagues that give them visibility to Filipinos.

I was watching the MPBL playoffs and apparently they are sponsored by the MPBL partylist. LOL

Taxpayers are sponsoring the games? I should make a Lechon For Everyone partylist then the lechon has to be bought from me.

TIGRESSES TO JOIN INAUGURAL WOMEN’S MPBL, ONG SAYS

UPDATE: Haydee Ong, the inaugural commissioner of the Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL) and UST head coach, says the Growling Tigresses will compete in the league’s first season starting January.

In an interview with the Varsitarian, Ong says the WMPBL aims to begin with eight to ten teams: four from UAAP and four from commercial or local government units.

“We wanted to do it small muna para makita namin kung paano in the future,” she says. “But, of course, the end goal is to have our own professional league for women’s basketball.”

As Ong assumes her role as league commissioner, her assistants, Allana Lim and Ged Austria, will take charge of coaching duties for the Growling Tigresses in their WMPBL campaign.

Even the Communist partylists are sponsoring their NPA cadres in the mountains

Question: Has the MPBL become a more popular league to watch than the PBA?

I live in the US, so I'm disconnected from it all. My friend was telling me that the MPBL is more popular because of all the politics, corruption, etc... with the PBA. Not that the MPBL doesn't have any, but it's not as ridiculous.

Probably in terms of live attendance since many of the games are free. Otherwise its still the PBA especially when it comes to ratings. Random PBA games scheduled on the same day have outdrawn the UAAP/PVL finals.
