MPBL for sale?

Snow Badua
@snowbadua
One major basketball league is reportedly FOR SALE. Several companies are now lobbying to meet with the founding owner for a possible deal. But they want to talk directly to the league owner, not to his cohorts. Sayang ang mga tunay na plano sa liga na yan. Tsk tsk.

i thought the original plan for the league is to serve as a campaign tool for Pacquiao (uy 2 yrs nalang its election time again) boy, a lot of us were wrong for predicting this league will soon fold after the 2022 elections.

The PBA cannot catch all the local talent and fan following. Hometown teams will always have an advantage in following. Then you have ex PBA or those who were not good enough for the PBA. Then you have a lot of talent. Now, Baltazar and Pampanga are helping lift the league's exposure with their play. Pampanga I think can defeat the PBA farm teams and might even give the weaker non-farm teams a challenge.

plus, there’s so much money on gambling/sports betting. I doubt gate receipts or tv revenue are the main revenue streams of the mpbl (admission to games are free while who knows what time and which tv5 channel covers this event). Heck league owner Pacquiao is a endorser of a online betting page

I hope that the future owner/s has/have a good vision for the league.

MPBL could have been better with imports around and more organized, well-planned scheduling and tournament format.

Maybe the MPBL can merge with the PSL, VisMin, and NBL to form one pyramid league system, with promotion and relegation. It's more conducive for them than the PBA.

you can add the PBA D League too, create a umbrella/network of minor leagues. Thus giving all these team owners a incentive to create a competitive team (promotion to the PBA), rather than just use their respective teams/leagues either as a tax writeoff/gambling purposes/ or for the love of the game

I'd like to see this. Promotion/relegation is one thing I'd to see applied here. Not sure how you will distinguish the two levels though. What are the differences in B league for example between its divisions?

You get less prize money and less coverage in a lower division, I think. The top is the glamour division. Most money, most attractive options.

MPBL is shown on youtube and facebook. How can you control coverage? You cant really control viewers because some teams may really have more viewers even if the are bad. I guess prize money is easier to control. But who will sponsor it?

I think in concept it’s good. But maybe in reality it is a bit more complicated, particularly for not so rich country as ours.

the lantern teams might be stronger than aldin ayos/deltas other team.. converge

Pacman venturing into Volleyball

Former Senator Manny Pacquiao graces the opening of the MPBL Jr. Tournament featuring more than 20 teams from different cities in the country. The people’s champ also revealed that he plans to open his own volleyball league after the FIBA world cup. | via

Dreaming of having a regular Men's Volleyball aside from that Spikers Turf touney..

Womens Volleyball are too saturated nowadays but no chance to play in the medal round even in the SEA level.

I’ve been anticipating and monitoring the propose Jr. MPBL tourney that I’ve heard last year. Kudos to former Sen. MP to make it happen considering that the SBP management should be the one who must conceptualized and undertake such grassroot development on all younglings out there as the duly recognize National Federation of the sports. Anyway now it becomes a reality and the implementation would be nationwide composed of 22 teams for this year’s inauguration.

And as per information that I’ve received the games would be play almost everyday(?) or every other day(?) to take advantage of the school break and when school season starts games would be play during Sat and Sun which is very ideal and beneficial not only for the lads but also to the parents/guardians as well.

My wishful thinking..
Because the main objective is all about grassoot development, what if, Sir Dave and the rest of the people involved in NBTC like coach E, Filam Nation Select of Coach Cris and Cabaggie among others are also aware of this new endeavor of the Pacman and somehow form a short collaboration to the PAC group to sent some kid(s) from their respective territory considering that it is also vacation time at the US, CAN and the rest of Europe except maybe for NZL and AUS whom I think is still in the middle of its own school calendar until mid December if I’m not mistaken.

The essence of establishing a strong domestic connection to those overseas based kids not only thru the yearly NBTC(which only run for a week) but also to the other locally sponsored tourney like this one not only to satisfy FIBA’s parameters on immersion but to educate the kids the culture and good values of being a Filipino not only thru sports but other aspects as well.

With our well known “bayanihan” spirit, I think challenges related on finances are not that impactful to those US and Canadian based Filipinos to chip in some dollars to those foreign based kids during the entire vacation period.

But the 44-year-old former senator said the league is more than just basketball.
“It is also about molding our young generation to be responsible and disciplined individuals both on and off the court,” said Pacquiao in his opening speech.
“Ang basketball ay hindi lamang isang laro. Ito ay isang paraan upang magkaroon ng disiplina at ma-develop ang teamwork.”

I am dreaming of a rugby league here in the Philippines. After basketball, rugby is my second favorite sport. Kahit rugby sevens lang.

Would definitely be great for PH basketball moving forward, though I'm worried that this might receive same treatment that the Fil-Am rule in the seniors had received, knowing all too well that that league is run by nationalists/nativists.

If I am Manny instead of going back to politics i will just focus on helping the development of the sports in the Philippines, i hope he sponsors a talented prospects in training overseas , i think his connections in the US is strong enough to help our young basketball players to train and be part of good basketball programs
