You jinxed Maccabi :D Quincy Miller got injured practicing at UCLA, sources say serious knee injury.

In oppose to last season, I feel very optimistic this pre season.
I liked most of the signings of Maccabi, I believe they will bring another big man (they must) I would have prefer another type of player instead of Mekel / Ohayon but you can't get anything you want.

i'm not optimistic at all, the coach chosen is ridiculous, also David Smith with his injury problems will probably stay, now I'm reading that also Quincy Miller is injured.

But it seems to me that at least the team is trying to build a solid foundation for the future.

Maccabi will be again a protagonist in Euroleague. Probably not immediately but owing that the best players have signed for a longer period they should use this year in order to be acclimated.

Maccabi needs more players... It's too early for some conclusions.

Miller was not seriously injured ~ 5 weeks.

Joe Alexander is back? really?
The troika of Danny Federman-Avi Even-Nikola Vujcic strikes again...
In Maccabi, Alexander demonstrated one of the lowest basketball IQs I have ever seen. No understanding of team play whatsoever, no discipline, mediocre shooting, horrible shot selection, no defense.
And they bring him back.
Don't they ever learn from their mistakes? Do they even acknowledge that they make mistakes?

Maybe he played like that because he was so hurt at having to leave Maccabi? :p

Seriously though, they said they had learnt from last season but it doesn't look promising right now.

Why is he getting Israeli passport? Is he Jewish?

Hapoel Jerusalem have a better roster than Maccabi again.

Israeli citizenship law is much broader in that respect. If you have Jewish roots up to two generations backwards, you are eligible.
In other words, he probably found some papers proving his grandma was Jewish somehow...

he is not worse than an average israeli player. I hope the purpose is to give him 5-7 minutes, not more.

You don't bring him for a $600K net salary to play 5 minutes.
And I'd much rather see Itay Segev than him. Much more hussle, much more hunger, much better understanding of team play, better rebound, much better defense. Much better value for money.
Alexander can shoot better, but he's not such a great shooter either.

Segev will stay i guess. I didn't know that Alexander's salary is so high. In any case i doubt he'll play much time with this coach, he loves playing in the paint area and Alexander isn't exactly this type of player.

Of course these movements mean that no one of maccabi's managers gives importance to what this coach needs and thinks. They will decide everything themselves, this year more than ever.

By the way, is Rochestie considered a domestic player having jewish origins?

wiki says he is as well :"His maternal grandfather was Jewish, as he is, which made him eligible for an Israeli citizenship while playing for Maccabi Tel-Aviv"

Rochestie (and Farmar) were considered domestic by the Israeli basketball association and foreigners by Israeli tax authorities. So Maccabi got the best of 2 worlds (foreigners enjoys the ridiculous taxation benefits), ironically it may be cheaper to have (Farmar / Rochesti / Alexander) for 550000 than lets say Halperin (Or any other Israeli player) for 400000.

I can understand this signing of Maccabi as well, since the number of some what talented "Israeli" players is so limited, that Maccabi must fight for every one of them, especially in an era when Jerusalem is able to sign some of them.
Alexander has its own disadvantages (even though in my opinion he way better than most people say) but give me a name of better Israeli big men. Maybe Eliyahu and thats it!

ok thank you. Eliyahu no thanks, a decent player but i remember him missing the most important shots in decisive moments, including free throws.

So due to the Jewish origins of rochestie and alexander maccabi can theoretically have 8 foreigners this year. I hope this number will be reached, all the possibilities should be exploited.

A devastating blow, major sports sites report that Quency Miller is out until the end of the season!

Maccabi targeted him long time ago (Some might say, too long ago, behind the back of red star management) and he supposed to play a key role in the new Maccabi.

So now we have another key spot to fill again.

That team is hopeless... even when they do something right in their roster, for a change - it turns to s**t. Maccabi has the Midas Touch - but backwards.

But hey, we can take solace in this: our doctors actually didn't miss a knee injury! They saw it this time! we should call a press conference and give them a medal.

no luck. no midas reverse touch. federman-vujicic duo is the lonely gullty factor for such a mediocrity. u added a couple of good player. u shouldnt count just on a couple of player, mainly if u consider market moviments of other teams.
techinically, vujicic showed all his limits. economically, well, owners showed are actually so so far even from av el teams.
