Maccabi Elektra Tel-Aviv - next season (10/11)

  • Thread starter Thread starter frodoborg2
  • Start date Start date
I only copy rooster from signature of winnetou_dombrowsky, so don`t blame me for position of some player in rooster :p

why most of you are sure that foote is going on loan? I personaly thinks that maccabi wouldn`t bring any big players, so foote will stay in team.

oh Maccabi will sign some big guys..no doubt about that(Blatt said it today)
and Foote will go on a loan becuase he is a great talent but not a great player...can help Maccabi this year..so he won't get any playing-time..he's a young player that needs minutes so..sending him on a loan is for his own good

I agree that Maccabi will bring one or two big guys to complete the rooster.

But I think that Maccabi should have one Israeli starter. Eidson may not be among the best in Europe from long range, but Pnini and Bluthental sure are.

of course Maccabi would have an Israeli starter..Burstein
I see our starting line-up like that
Perkins(if he would end up staying..if not then the PG that would replace him)
Burstein
Eidson
Hendrix
New(foreign)C

that would mean Burstein/Sharp combo on 2. I'd love that, and I believe it can work out if both stay healthy.

I actually really doubt the fact that Sharp would play an important role in Maccabi
people were mad at Pini for not giving him enough playing-time but he was right..Sharp is there for the fighting spirit and everytime the crowd started asking for Derrick he told him to step in..
bottom line and the point of what I just said?:p Derrick won't be an important part next year..he won't be the first replacement for Burstein(which I believe will start)maybe Torrance will be..maybe Blatt is planning to use Blu(god that's going to be hard to get used to)as a 2 cause the 3 position is so crowded now

but yes I believe that the starting line-up will be
Perkins(different high-profile PG)
Burstein
Eidson
Hendrix
New(foreign)C

it's a very smart line-up with 3 players that can move the ball around

Well, I'd love to see Sharp playing for about 15 min. a game and I think he could do that, still, he's the only player in Maccabi where I'd really say that his age is an issue.
Maybe you're right, and the 2 will look like this: Burstein/Torrence/Sharp and another PG will sign to back up for Perkins.

G'D, I just hope that Perkins will stay, for me, he's in the same league with McIntyre, McCalebb, Holden or Logan.
But so much more good value for money and so much more likeable;)

I don't think Sharp can play 15 min..no way
he's not a great defender like he used to be
he can't do anything but shoot 3s..
trust me I LOVE him..but he can't play 15 min..maybe when Maccabi is in trouble:p

I thought of this line-up(during the game, after the starting line-up)
Torrance
Blu
Eidson
Kadir
New(foreign)C

this way,Torrance can be PG but he can also move to the SG position
Blu will play SF and Eidson PG

and yes you're right about Perkins..I totally agree I don't think he's any less of a player then McClaebb
plus,he really really loves Maccabi and WANTS to stay even if it'll cost him money and a better contract somewhere else
I don't know why they haven't offered him a decent offer already
Wiz can get payed at 1M but Perkins can't even get 600K?

I agree with you. Your mid game lineup sounds interesting, though I'd rather play Handrix for a lot of time and leave Kadir mainly for games in the israeli league. hendrix brings just so much power to the game.

About Perkins, I think that the 450 k they're offering him are more than reasonable, it's just that the other "big" european clubs notoriously overpay their players.
And two mistakes by Maccabi in the last two years, namely paying Arroyo 2.5 M. and Wiz 1 M. such large salaries...that was dumb and even an insult to a player like Saras, who's so much better than those two but Maccabi never bothered to pay him even close to that.

Anyway, if Perkins will stay, I'll be more than happy:D

I agree with you on Hendrix BUT...you have 2 things to take into consideration here..
1)Hendrix can't play 30-35 minutes and then give another 20 minutes in the Israeli league..it would kill him..
2)remember we only have 2 PF(Kadir and Hendrix)and I'm not saying anything about Blu because he's not a PF and I don't want the same thing to happen this year when we played with 1 real big guy and one SF(Pnini/Blu)I want a real PF and a real C on the court at all times

and yes,Arroyo and Wiz were overpayed but Perkins deserves more then 450K(and as I understand it Maccabi is offering him 500K)
I think he deserves around 600K and that would be completely fair.
if McCalebb is really getting payed 1.5M euro a year(even if it's a total it's 750K euro per year)then he's COMPLETELY OVERPAYED
I don't want to bet my money on this one but I doubt it if he'd still have the same reputation next season

and just one last thing about Hendrix..I think he's going to be in the top 3 of Maccabi players next May when the season is over
I think he's going to continue his great rebounding skills and would be a great player to count on in the paint

and let's just hope that this..''financial season'' is really just this season and next summer we'd see an improvement..because people are saying ''financial season''..could be the begining of a new era where Maccabi just won't spend...ever!

100% agree.

Anyway, how do you see Maccabi on the wings?
SG Eidson/Burstein/Sharp
SF Pnini/Bluthental
sounds pretty solid to me, especially because I really do believe that Pnini is a very good SF and I put my trust on a very good, experienced (and fit:D) Burstein - Bluthental combo of the bench.

Anyway, as Blatt spoke about the importance of bringing back the Israeli character to the team (a top prioritiy in my opinion), it's vital for Maccabi to have an israeli starter in the lineup.
Just like Burstein in the great team of 2004-2005.

Do you think that Pnini is ready for the challenge (he's 26) or can you imagine Halperin coming back to play at SF, leaving aside the high costs.
Perkins/Torrance
Eidson
Halperin
in the backcourt would be phenomenal, 'cause a guy like Halperin with his shooting skills and high basketball IQ would be the perfect addition to Eidsons leadership and presence together with the power and drive from an american PG.

But you're right, lets wait and see...

Halperin is a combo-guard and can't play SF. He is not tall enough, not athletic enough, not explosive enough. He is a pure guard with very god skills and great basketball IQ who makes pretty much nothing out of his abilities because he lack the kind of chutzpah Oded Katash used to have.

MTA's current roster is not athletic enough and lacks a true scorer. I think, Pnini will start at SF and Bluth will come off the bench, as Bluth is able to play two positions better than Pnini does. Bluth is a matchup problem offensively. Sharp will hardly get any playing time, especially in the EL. His value is in different aspects for this team, that's why they've prolonged his contract. I don't see enough specialists on this team aside from Bluthenthal, who can come in especially to hit threes. Not enough dribblers from the wing, who can actually put the ball on the floor. Pnini doesn't have a left hand, while Bluth is slow and not a good dribbler. However, lots of unselfish players who can pass (Burstein, Eidson, Torrance, Perkins to some extent, maybe Scheer, Foote is one of those big guys with passing skills).

What about Scheyer? His name wasn't mentioned recently anymore. Isn't the signing of Torrance (what will be his salary?) a sign that Scheyer won't come? Then again, signing Scheer in addition will prevent Halperin from joining the squad next year.

What about Perkins? How many years does MTA want to keep him on the team? I'd offer him a multi-year contract now with an increase each year with bonuses for certain team success.

Guys, Wisniewski never made a million bucks in Israel. Lampe was the highest paid player last season with slightly over a million and Anderson was a close second. Wiz never got more than 400.000 - 550.000. If a million was mentioned, then it was for two years at least. After all, he has never played in the EL, has never distinguished himself that much that he could demand such a salary and MTA is not a team that would overpay a player, especially one like him.

Even if the current roster looks thin on paper, Blatt is known to be able to squeeze more out of his teams than what they'd give you on paper. As long as players play a committed D and a smart O, they'll get their PT. Blatt is one of those coached, who can adapt to a situation, he has been thrown into. The other category of coaches can coach only in one certain way and they'll never get the maximum out of their players as they are not using them at their best (case by case) but put them in their inflexible schemes. Luka Pavicevic of Alba Berlin is such a guy, for example.

Agree with you on Blatt.
To my knowledge, Torrance will earn slightly less than 150 k per season, which makes him incredibly good value for money.
I think that if Maccabi is interested in another combo guard, they will sign Scheyer.

It's a shame that Halperin, Casspi and Eliyahu sold themselves, but if they're happy, it's ok. But there's no way Maccabi will pay Halperin even close to what he got from Olympiakos...

150.00 is almost for free on that level. Could be a major steal.

Another combo guard? Perkins, Torrance, Burstein and Eidson to some extent aren't enough? Scheyer is very welcome but that would force Eidson to play SF exclusively and Bluth to switch over to PF, meaning, Kadir won't play much. MTA surely needs more beef under the basket and they need to get rid of Green as he simply isn't performing with so little playing time, while being too expensive for a 5-mpg-player.

Halperin is doing only right by not coming to MTA this year. Why should he forgo a lot of money by paying huge taxes just because of one year?

Eliyahu signed a multiyear deal last season to play for one of the best teams in Europe. He was ready to play for MTA for less money than he got in Spain but Maccabi didn't even want to pay that much. Apparently, they had an idea that every Israeli player will chose MTA instead of any other team just like that. But why should a player not chose equally possible success paired with valuable experience in a different system an the best league outside of NBA AND over a million Euros more?

Casspi made it to the NBA, where he has succeeded already and thus will be a major gain for MTA. He is getting more money and is in a better situation than he could have had in Tel-Aviv.

Of course, I'd like best Israeli players play for Maccabi and succeed on European stage but that is impossible. Besides, if you have Casspi on the team, what do you do with Pnini and Bluth? If you have Halperin, what to do with that buch of other combo guards on the team?

Well, In my opinion Maccabi is allready loaded on 1-3, but if Blatt wants to play Eidosn at 3, Burstein will need a backup (i.e. Scheyer)
Or Blu will backup Burstein at two.

I don't know, but the next signing will be a center, I'm quite sure about that.

According to Walla sports site, Maccabi is making a second attempt to sign Jaycee Carroll (the player agreed tems with Maccabi but Gran Canaria and Maccabi couldn't agree upon his buy out fee). If they won't succeed, then their main candidates for the SG position are Louis Bullock and Travis Hansen.

Bullshit from A-Z, except maybe the news about Carroll.

Bullock and Hansen??? Haha, c'mon our coach is David Blatt, not a moron like Messina or Giannakis + they were overpaid the last two seasons and not in Maccabis' price range

You have a moron at GM position, remember. :D :D :D

The same Blatt signed until now in the most important positions (PG and C) two college players that were undrafted. I think that signing Bullock or Hansen is more reasonable than the signings Blatt already made, even though I don't want to see them in Maccabi.

carrol is the best solution of this three guys. but as we know, maccabi will probably bring some sg from ncaa :p

Not only that, but Maccabi are not willing to pay any buy out fee on Carroll, who had a valid contract in Gran Canaria, so why should they release him?

I personally would love to see Hansen in Maccabi but right now we need 2 big guys and not 1 SG and 1 C
but 1 C and 1 PF/C
