Amazing... he is just 18 years old. and is averaging 11.3 ppg 2.2 apg and 1.2 rpg in 25.9 mpg, right now I don't remember another 18 yearolder playing like that in the recent years.

I can't remember any 18 or 19 year olds with such numbers in LNB since Manu Ginóbili, Nocioni, Scola or Jasen...
It looks like we've another star on the rise in Machuca.

So, here is the question: did even Manu and Scola get those kinds of numbers when they were 18?

Ya Ya Dia played at the University of Georgetown, the great "farm of centers," which produced NBA centers like Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo, Michael Sweetney, Othella Harrington, Alonzo Mourning and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje. Unfortunately, Ya Ya Dia never played got to the level of those other players, but he is nevertheless very talented. He's a bigtime shot-blocker and rebounder, just like those other Georgetown players.

Ya Ya Dia has played in all over the world, most recently in Mexico. He's also played in Turkey, Israel, Uruguay, Italy, Jordan, Australia, the US, and Russia. This is actually his third time in Argentina: in '98 he played for Regatas San Nicolas, and in '01 he played for Quilmes Mar del Plata.

Thanks for the info, Matt.

I don't believe they did. If I'm not wrong Manu averaged around 20 ppg when he was 20 years old, but not at 18, acctually I don't believe he got much playing time at 18 and about Scola, he left to Europe at 17 years old, I'm not sure about Nocioni or Herrmann. I'll try to get more data, since this is a interesting question.
Anyway it was a lot harder to get playing time for a kid back then, 10 years ago, than now so offcourse we are not saying that Machuca will be as good as Manu, but he certainly could develop into a very good player, he is very promising

He's also a big player on Senegal's national team, but he didn't play in the most recent African Championships.

If he's 18-years old and averaging 12 points in the LNB, he must be good. Outside of the NBA, the LNB and BSN are the two best leagues in the Americas, so he's playing against some very tough competition.

(If Mexico had just one major league, I would say they're in that category, but Mexican talent is dilluted in five different leagues, none of which are great).

At 18, Herrmann played about 10 mpg and scored 3 ppg, but at 19 he was already scoring 13 ppg for Olimpia.

And Scola at 17 was averaging 10 ppg for Ferro in 97/98. Then he left for Spain.

Did Ya Ya Dia play?

Man, Ben Hur can't buy a victory. I'm glad to see Boca playing well with a mostly Argentine squad. It's good that Leo Guitierrez is still putting up numbers. I'm a big fan of his.

Ya Ya Dia started at center scored 8 points.

And speaking of Leo Gutiérrez, on Wednesday he scored 7/11 threes in Boca's 95-74 win over Obras.

But the biggest game was Quilmes win over Peñarol, 72-70 with big performances by Nicolás Aguirre (again) and Antonio Reynolds-Dean, who scored the winning two.

El Nacional also beat Gimnasia 86-68.

Wow, this Diego Marcelo Osella seems like one heckuva player!! Does anybody know what his number of total games played in Europe and Argentina is?

-Jeff Aubry left Independiente, because of his previous contract in Puerto Rico.

-Peñarol signed SG Quincy Wadley to replace Cedric Moodie.

Wow, it'll be weird to imagine the LNB without Pittman. He's been playing very well since 2000 or so. What drug was he doping?

Marijuana, and his second suspension. He did 3 months in 2005, when playing for Atenas.

Pittman had been playing every year in Argentina since 1998, always scoring plenty.
