Are all those guys from north China? I read somewhere that there, some ethnies were quite tall.
Also, I wrote a few years ago that scouts had infos about around 50 7footers in China between 12 and 18 years old? Is that realistic?

Yao was measured 2.29 m barefoot by the Rockets coaches, trainers, and staff. So actually he's taller than some in this list.

No, Yao measured 226cm with shoes and 224cm with shoes. 229cm = 7'6'', since Americans only measure in inches.

But you have a point: many in this list... who the hell knows how tall they really are. The height I got are from popular articles of different sources

Damelo, I doubt any of them is tall due to genetics. :)

Diseases you mean? That's quite true for all of them, it's in their faces all over (protuberant chins, elongated faces, disproportinate bone structure, etc) and it shows by the sticks they hold. The exception (apart from the mentioned Yao of course) is Bai Xishun, whose height was normally developed and he doesn't suffer from any disease.
Curiously with extremely tall Asian people, it's sometimes difficult to know if they suffer from a pituitary gland disorder or so due to the specific Mongoloid features. One example could actually be Bao Xishun.

You are wrong. It was stated several times by the Rockets GM and coach that Yao was measured 2.29m barefoot about 1 year after he joined them which was his final full growth. I even saw an interview where Yao admitted he grew to 7'6" which is 2.29 m with no shoes on.

For some reason China never bothered to ever measure him again.

Did some further research

1. Wang Fengjun 1978 2.46m
Born in a poor household in the countryside (where China's one-child law was rarely enforced) he was the 5th of 6 children. His parents and siblings are of normal height. In 2000, when he was 22, a surgery was performed to remove a tumor on the pituitary gland that resulted in excess growth hormone excretion.

2. Zhang Juncai 1967 2.42m
Again, born in the countryside, last of 5 children. Had 2 surgeries to remove a pituitary tumor around 2000, like Wang.

3. Zhang Huan 1986 2.38m (see below)

4. Huang Changqiu 1966 2.36m
Born in the countryside. Mother is only 150cm, but father is above average (reports vary from 180cm to 196cm). All sisters are over 175cm. Had a complete checkup in 1993, and the physician considered him healthy. Reportedly still growing after 30 years old. A 2004 X ray in a bigger city hospital revealed that he has stopped growing. All checkups in different cities reveal that his growth hormone level in the blood is "average". (Maybe he just had a longer adolescence).

5. Bao Xishun 1951 2.36m
An ethnic Mongolian born in the countryside. Father 180cm, mother 160cm. All siblings are of normal height. Like Huang, checkups revealed a normal growth hormone level as well as healthy heart and lungs.

6. Wang Xinfeng 1966 2.35m
Born in a very poor village, he had an accident in 1986 while working on the railway where he injured his left knee. Short on money, he decided not to treat the leg and became a disabled. The village finally managed to raise some money in 2004 for him to go to the city for treatment. However it was also diagnosed that he has diabetes, as well as a pituitary tumor 3.6cm wide. Through newspapers in the city, donations were raised for his diabetes treatment but I guess tumor surgery was delayed.

7. Sun Mingming 1983 2.33m
Born in a poor village, his parents and siblings are all of normal height. Did 2 surgeries to remove his pituitary tumor in 2005 and 2006, in Los Angeles, CA and Winston-Salem, NC respectively, after coming to the US for minor league basketball. A number of generous people donated money for his surgeries.

8. Liu Wenge 1967 2.32m
Only one of 8 children with an unusual height. Grew until the age of 34. Practiced some basketball in an attempt to start from college amateur league once.

9. Wang Tongxin 1980 2.30m
Considered healthy. Played basketball for 7 years, including a long stay in Zhejiang's junior team until an injury in 1997 forced him to quit. His parents and sister are only 160+cm though.

10. Liu Fuying 2.30m Age? (Played for Bayi from 1979-1982.)
Like I said was a basketball player for 3-4 years. Not many reports on him as he's retired at home.

11. Jiang Baocheng 1980 2.30m (See below)

12. Mu Tiezhu 1949 2.28m
The best basketball player of the bunch (great mid-range shots), although unathletic and uncoordinated as you can ever find. In the 70s many were concerned that he has acromegaly and may die on the court, but the diagnosis was not definite. Mu is retired and has 2 kids, both of them adults of normal height.

13. Yang Dianshun 1941 2.28m
Once played basketball for Beijing Team. There's only one article on the Internet, in which the old man igored the reporter who singled him out for his height. ..
Missed a few, BTW:

Zhang Huan 1986 2.38m
00000836.jpg

Father 180cm, Mother 167cm, Brother 180cm. Selected to play basketball at the age of 12 to sports schools. Was on the Jiangsu and Shandong Junior teams before a waist injury forces his retirement in 2005. His height is likely not due to pathology: he was 5.8kg when he was born.

Jiang Baocheng 1980 2.30m
43-1-1.jpg

Professional judo athlete. In 2003 fainted during a match. It was only then that the physicians discovered a pituitary tumor, which was removed in 2004.

I'm sure I missed a lot more. I also saw 2 other names supposedly 230cm+ but could not find other sources to support the claims.

Sorry, NBA measures him at 7'6'' with shoes, which means he's at most 7'5'' without shoes.

Look I'm not going to argue with you about 1 inch, as even for a normal individual morning/evening variation in height can be 2cm = 1inch. I just remembered one Yao Ming chat in 2003 ("Final Full growth" according to you) on the Chinese web which says
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/archive/index.php/t-63419.html
Audience: How tall are you?
YM: 2.26 m with shoes and 2.23 without. My shoe size is 52.

lol does it really matter if yao is 226cm, 226.00001cm, 226.00002cm (get my drift?....) He's a kickass player on the court and a great guy off the court. That's what matters the most I think

First off the NBA measured him 2.27m barefoot and he was still growing. This has been mentioned many times, they listed a typographical error that he was 2.26 m.

China also measured him 2.27m barefoot at age 19. The 2.26m listing is from age 17. Believe me, I am a big Yao fan and I know every detail about him.

Anyone here played carx street. I have recently download it from carxstreetapk.com. I you interested we can have a match together.
