I really really hope they don't drop the ball on this one. This is a critical time of his career.
or wasserman has figured things out for kai to first earn big money while looking good on the court (hypothetically since he hasn't played a game yet in the bl) while staying on the radar of nba teams by being a fixture in summer leagues, if kai gets to play in the upcoming summer league i think he's going to be the only bleague representative.
besides, those gilas games against asian competition won't help improve kai's stock really. yeah he gets more playing time but i'm sure wasserman knows no one scouts those games so no point to highlight kai, i bet once gilas starts playing friendlies with non-asian teams for their wc preparation wasserman will let kai suit up.

1. left ignite to join gilas w/o properly informing ignite
2. skipped 3rd window fiba eventhough there was no summer league invite
and now skipping the 6th window when there is ample time to represent his country then play in japan b-league.
remember there is still no official summer league offer in contrast to what has been circulating in the news, vlogs that he is reportedly gonna play.

There is no denying the assessment that he has foot speed ( any yes strength) issues relative to NBA prospects ( As Silva points out ) , no point to deny this.. it's best to realize this weakness as it indeed should be the focus of his improvement as it is the area (lateralls) that has been confirmed as what has been the barrier for him to get playing opportunities ( offers and PT), it's not hate to call this out , in fact it constructively identifies what Kai has to work on .

The reality is the single most determinant if Kai will signed as a free agent is actually league play ( b league or NBL or G league)
, it's actually not FiBA or SL, that really is too small a sample size ..
The players who played well in FIBA complimented their play with good league play ( 25 plus games per season), it's the latter that got interest (as scouting is based on videos volume of reps). The problem with B league is Kai's role in B league which could be a star isn't what his envisioned role is as an NBA player. As evidence do B league MVPs get NBA call ups ?
Is Dwight Howard, tacko fall, Maker all in Asain leagues getting return call ups by dominating Asian leagues?

Practicing with his teammates. By the FIBA break he'll be learning more about the style of play and bonding with the team in the short time he's there.
i hope that this is the case. however i thought the b-league is taking a break and that includes the players as well. if he's just out there chilling or working out on his own then he's better off practicing & playing for gilas

B-league will have a fiba break till the 7 or 8th of march.. 3 week stop

That's true... Hiroshima is 2nd in their division and running for championship... That's the reason for his skip.. Even i'm the GM for that squad then i would tell his players to focus on winning the title... Only KSA, Jordan, Iran and Kazakhstan will take this window seriously because they still not yet qualified...

I agree on this, same as other professional players insurance is the important aspect for a player and managers to agree playing for a tournament. Also I don't think there is a Gilas call up clause in Kai contract with Hiroshima because it is only a 2 month contract.

there's two sides from which one can look at any professional basketball player's career, one is the ultimate dream which is to make the nba and be paid a king's ransom the other is simply to play somewhere else but still get paid what normal people will consider as a king's ransom.
obviously fans and supporters who want to see a pure blooded filipino play in the nba will take kai's management team to task for seemingly boneheaded decisions in the past because to them those are distractions to get to the nba. however, from kai's management team's perspective and likely kai and his family as well no one walks away from P10M-P20M on the table to play in another league even if it means putting on pause his nba dream.
honestly if you weight both sides its not really fair to say that kai's management team is effing up his career because he has earned more than what his father has in a short span of 2 1/2 years and is poised to still earn more even if it means playing outside the nba.
true we can argue that maybe kai and his management didn't see the big picture early on - that if he only saw it through Ignite and ignored the "chance" to earn extra by moonlighting with Gilas, doing endorsements and launching the kaiju branding maybe he's in the nba right now together with kuminga, green, nix and todd. however, while that didn't happen they still got kai a very good deal which is a nbl contract which got him paid a decent pro baller's salary while remaining on the nba radar given that the nbl is considered as fertile nba hunting ground.
