Kai Sotto Thread

Seriously though, I wonder what is the % or number of players not drafted, not signed offered yet to either a two way contract or training camp contract, that after an impressive summer league play , get a late contract offer? I think this number is really low...

Moat teams already have around 4 or 5 players from last 2 drafts to consider , exsmple the Spurs have Sochan, Wesley and Malaki from last year , Wemby and sidko this drsft and Bediako and Rice ( 2 waya ), that's 7 players already. So assuming 8 other SL players play, I can't really see how any of the 8 can make the regular season roster. There are just not enough spots

you can see why the odds are so low, (it's not actually about Kai, but the numbers dont look good at all )

Last year almost all teams have 17 players in their roster and this year that would increase to 18. As reiterated by Tony, Wass have given Kai all the opportunities and it is up to Kai to take it. Also, he said that Kai is one of the most skilled bigs in the world.lol talking about validation from someone who discovered dirk and luka. this interview wont in any way help kai's signing and this is just plain and simple Tony answering questions about Kai.

RONZONE: DIRK-GIANNIS-LUKA

Was he also involved with Dirk going to Dallas?

*Ronzone and Don Nelson apparently was also pushing for Dallas to get Giannis during the 2013 NBA Draft instead (Cuban decided to get Olynyk)

The timeline matched and I also heard/read from either Quinito or Homer that he also discovered Dirk.

Tony Ronzone
Director of Player Personnel of the Dallas Mavericks since 2012-2013 (Hired).
Assistant General Manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2010-2011 (Hired) to 2011-2012.
Director of International Scouting of the Dallas Mavericks from 2005-2006 (Promoted) to 2009-2010.
Director of Basketball Operations of the Detroit Pistons from 2005-2006 (Promoted) to 2009-2010.
Scout of the Detroit Pistons from 2000-2001 (Hired) to 2004-2005.
Scout of the Dallas Mavericks from 1998-1999 (Hired) to 1999-2000.

Dirk Nowitzki
Nowitzki was chosen as the ninth pick in the 1998 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and was immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

Aside from the 7 players mentioned above the Spurs already have 11 players signed under contract for next season, not even counting FA Tre, so that's the max already 18 players , so essentially there are no spots left for the 8 players playing in SL for Spurs. That's the situation in true context..

I watched Ranzon's CNN interview, the fifty fifty is agent speak and an arbitrary figure plucked from the sky, to motivate Kai, essentially 50% refers to he was put in SL door , and raimajng 50 % is up to Kai. (He has to do it),

Now the realistic side if as video says there are 10 equal level prospects all competing for just 1 contract, how then can one say Kai has a 50 % chance . Like what will the agents of all the other 9 prospects say, they only have 10 % . Of course not . They would say exactly what Tony said , it's 50 /50 and give it your best. No agent will say you've only got less than 5 % LOL. .
anyway time will tell. The outcome is quite predictable though, but of course no one communicates that to a client prospect.

no amount of connection could land you an nba contract. no matter how prestigious the agency is. it is still up to the player to prove his worth if he’s nba-level/material. there is no agent that would bad mouth and discuss his player’s weaknesses on public. tony is doing a PR for his client. the same way former agent joel bell did for kai last year before the draft.

temper the high expectations of the public pronouncements of the agents like tony.

going back to kai’s last two stints in adelaide and hiroshima, where coaches were afraid to use him in the end game.

my indicator is if orlando fails to utilize him in the end game in the summer league, kai will most likely not gonna make it. kai has to put up a show especially in the defensive end to pass grade.

Someone should really do a Stockake assessment of how many roster spots Orlando has more or less filled for next season. Assume the draft picks are already in and assume those who were in 2 ways last season will be priority over new undrafted rookies

That will give you an idea of Kai's chances it's really possible all the roster spots have already more or less been accounted for

The Golden State Warriors are looking for big man right now because they got exposed in the playoffs by the Lakers, but the problem they can only pay NBA minimum salary.... Maybe Kai can try his luck there

here, Magic has 13 roster spots accounted for (kindly double check dont have good eyesight anymore), the rookies are not yet included in the list

The problem is they need defense, rebounding and post presence. Not exactly Kai's strengths

if they gave up on their 2nd overall pick Wiseman why do you think that they will give chance to an undrafted player like Kai, Wiseman is way better than Kai at this point of their respective careers

good luck to the warriors, if kai fans complained about their boy failing to get touches in the nbl and bleague what more in a team that features steph, klay and wiggins? next thing we will see peenoise calling those three ballhogs and accuse steve kerr of failing to develop kai.
