Kai Sotto Thread

Second window of WCQ 2027 is his most realistic date of return.

I'm not super worried

Pressure is on Edu to fill his shoes.

Asia Cup 2025 will be harder to win without him.

First Window of WCQ 2027 should be okay unless we are scheduled to face Australia/NZ.

I think it is ok to face AUS/NZ during the time of Kai's absence. If we play the percentage, we are likely to lose the game even with Kai, so better to face them early so that Kai can play minimal minutes against teams not named AUS/NZ

We should be flooding Erika Dy's email or social media account for her to act on Kouame's exemption because Al Panlilio is too incompetent to tie his own shoelaces.

this Injury sadly closes the door shut for Kai's NBA hopes, unless he balls out in the Olympics with Gilas I just dont think scouts will be thrilled with his age + injury history

Harsh but true, acl injury is a big red flag, we’ve seen a lot of careers end due to acl injuries

since Kai won't be playing for at least a year, I would want him to marry his girlfriend and start producing babies.

Maybe this is still not the time for us to have a homegrown yet, sadly. It is like the destiny itself made this happened, can't do something about it.

So, what is the update on the development of Kai's younger brother? I read that when Yao Ming was a kid, Chinese sports doctors measured the size of his knuckles and predicted that he will be really tall. I don't know the accuracy of the science involved but they were correct. And with their prediction they closely monitored and developed Yao.
Taulava, Japeth, and Kai should start producing more babies. Their wives are above average in height. Too bad Asi produced girls but he still has time. Japeth should be "robusted" every night so he will have more children. And since Kai has nothing to do but rehab then he should marry his girl. Biology is the key to Gilas supremacy! haha

I always wonder those violent dunks that he does could have contributed to his injuries, whenever he dunks so hard with feet up in the air and then he lands hard on the court, that's like 5x of his weight on his feet, legs and knees. His fanatical fans liked him doing that,to dominate and humiliate the guy guarding him, that injury was avoidable if he just dribble to left and use his reach for a layup,he was so low like trying to power himself up over his guard.

Meanwhile Sotto’s contemporaries are in the NBA. Ariel Hukporti and Zach Edey were supposed to be in the 2022 NBA Draft class but deferred. Hukporti had a knee injury and was able to recover.

That injury could have been prevented had he mastered Kareem's skyhook. It's the excessive movement when he is posting up that caused the slip. The skyhook is economical when it comes to the number of moves needed. Of course, you need countless hours practicing to fully master the skyhook which looks simple but requires muscle memory to work.

Also Chet Holmgren missed the entire 2022-23 season due to a foot fracture and again fractured his pelvis last November, but he's still with OKC.

Alphas in their injury report used the term - ACL RUPTURE

Is there any type (severity, effects) of difference between an ACL Rupture from an ACL TORN?

Dario Saric (2021 ruptured acl)
Thomas Bryant (2021 ruptured acl)

They're the recent ones - NBA Players who suffered an actual "Ruptured ACL" (as indicated in their NBA Med Report) (not torn acl)

I think ACL injury would be more detrimental to guards & wingmen than to big men becoz much quickness, agility & athleticism are required from guards & wingmen compared to big men. With the advancement of sports medicine as well as the advancement of player conditioning programs, I think players who suffered ACL torn can almost retain their old pre-injury form - quickness, mobility, agility, athleticism. I think the situation in the 80's & 90's s far as injury rehabilitation & recovery is different from the current situation.

Look at Allein Maliksi of Meralco, naka 2 ACL injuries na yan yet he's still playing in the PBA at age 37. If for instance Maliksi played in the PBA during the 80's or 90's & such injuries happened, baka at age 28, wala na sya sa PBA.

D Rose is a good example.

Hasn't been the same player since that ACL injury.

No doubt that Kai will bounce back from this. He's too young and I think the best is yet to come for him.

However, the NBA dream just got farther with this recent setback. I really thought that this strong B League season and continuous impressive Gilas games will finally be the springboard for him to make the NBA next season.

This is just heartbreaking. I hate it for the kid.
He's just a kid who dreamed on making it on the next level, and it sucks that it has to happen on him.

ACL is not a career ender. Pingris became a superstar after reconstructive surgery. Although he is known more for his defense. Definitely Kai will be more deliberate in his moves after recovery. But as many here, we would rather he not go for the highlight moves. As long as he maintains his health and not risk too much I foresee him getting back to his current level or even more. A bit of concern though with just therapy is that he will be a bit awkward in his movements and much less explosive. Kouame I think also had a ruptured ACL and opted not to have a surgery. Kouame looks less explosive as he was prior to injury.

We have a No. of PBA players who suffered ACL tear, yet no one here can say that their respective games have deteriorated after the injury. Robert Bolick is the same player pre-injury & post injury. I think he even got better post injury. William Navarro also suffered an ACL tear, yet parang wala namang nangyari. His game is still the same with no sign of a decline in his game post injury.

Flashback about 30 years ago & U have the late Samboy "skywalker" Lim suffering an ACL injury, yet after recovering from the injury, lumilipad pa rin si Samboy with hardly any trace of deterioration.

I understand that sentiment. I think Kai will still be a dominant force in the Asian level for the years to come as long as he makes a full recovery.

However, NBA wise, if no team was willing to gamble on a then 21 years old prospect, young and no injury concerns. What more on a guy that already suffered a career altering injury which is an ACL tear. It just sucks. You hate it to happen on the kid who just dreamed and did nothing but to represent a whole nation behind him.
