Kai Sotto Thread

Honestly, even if he could dominate B-League and produce a really impressive numbers, that's still not a guarantee NBA contract. He's not getting any younger and there's always upcoming talents in the states that's far better than him. No NBA team would risk signing him.

No it won't automatically for sure, but it will give him a boost going to the 2024 Summer League that at least good enough perfomance to get him to a Gleague contract again.

Yudai Baba comes to mind... a wing who was too raw for the Akatsuki Five that Norwood usually ate him for dinner. Started in the B League for Tokyo Alvark, been grinding for four seasons between the Texas Legends and Mebourne United getting a ton of minutes but never a single call-up to the Mavericks, now back in the B.League for Nagasaki putting up numbers comparable to Dwight and Kiefer. That is a very respectable pro career to date considering he has more competition for a roster spot as a 28 year old wing than Kai as a 21 year old big.

What has Kai done to suggest he deserves a shot in the NBA? I'm starting to believe he's already peaked.

Mobility wise, I think Kai already peaked. He had most energy when he was at his teens, now going to 22 years old I think he doesn't have the mental fortitude to play fast anymore

That's too harsh, I don't really like where this is going. Kai can't compare to anyone we've seen in the country because most of them became players for their height alone except maybe Asi and JMF who could probably carve out roles in foreign leagues. I'd go as far as even saying Matt Aquino is just a copy-paste of his dad, but it's a shame that the game has evolved in a way that suits Kai's game but he's fine with being the roll/pop guy who can block shots a bit off the bench.

Kai has been dropped /cut by 3 teams already and he's only 21 .
Ignite
36ers
Hirsohima

If he's not careful he can get dropped./cut by Gilas if his asking price is too high. (Kai is getting a reputation as a high maintenance player )

Why do I have this feeling that Kai's handlers are just too concerned about how to make money out of Kai's career & have not really put enough concern on developing/improving Kai's basketball skills? I just hope I'm wrong.

I feel Kai really needs some extensive training to work on the flaws of his game.

no thanks to his father..

actually for him to get such "notoriety" he actually needs to become an effective player first, at the moment he is really just "feeling superstar" more than anything else

Specially the part where he's still not good defending against a burly type big and after sprinting a couple times for the fastbreak, his pg has to slow down for Kai to catch up.

Adding any weight will slow him down. He has to choose if he is a finesse or strength type. I would still choose finesse because getting outrun today seems to be a no-no. But he needs to make outside shots.

He's like an addict that needs to be separated from a scenario of guards setting him up for all his shots on the paint,I don't get that they showed him hitting midrange shots in motion and yet in a real game he rarely attempts even with a loose defense on him outside the paint.

Confidence issue? Or trying to keep his % up?

I can't blame Kai, the Kobe P route is just too enticing. all those hot vixens

after all, that's a typical human side of it...all of us has it's own fantasies in life..not all has the privilege and the benefits.

it's all about balance in everything as far as social status are concern.

So aggressive on those practice videos the vloggers put in their site, with captions like "Kai Sotto mas malakas, mabilis, best shooting, ginulat ang coach, blah, blah, blah.Actual game comes he's in his usual spot on the paint hands in front of him waiting for the guard to dish to him.

just like preseason Ben Simmons

if kai were really playing well and showing a very positive trajectory towards dominant asian player then none of us will even care if he puts on a gangster act, has a posse, stays out late, skips practice and plows thru maria ozawa and yu shinoda pu**y types in japan 24/7 ... much less a mix tape of him doing aggressive moves against 5'7 trainers

Dunno why the media and people kept describing him like he's an wizard on offense. Maybe because he sucks at defense? I kinda gave up on him being an elite post player after I've watched him commit 3 straight turnovers trying to post up a 6'5 player..

I understand where Kai is coming from, as a 21 year old distractions will come and there will come a fork in the road where he needs to choose where he will be happy.. I guess he just doesn't have the fire in his belly to step up his game to the next level.

Kai's game is more of a Japeth plus Mick Pennisi right now

Sir Jun,

if only the lad was a son of an impoverished family with limited resources and options ala his ninong(?) The Demolition Man maybe we will see some improve work rate. even though Lakay also had his own kinks in his armor but the ethics of the dude towards the game are very inspiring during his heyday..."Sana Talaga May Ganun, Yung Ngayon".
