Kai Sotto Thread

Yes, if Europe is possible, Kai should also try his luck there. He just needs to avoid PBA at all cost, he should play where the competition and the salary is much higher. He'd still be an important piece of Gilas after all.

All these talks about him reaching the NBA is nothing but a delusion. Nothing screams about him as capable enough to be part of any NBA team let a lone getting a playing time there. Kai is light years behind the likes of Chet and Wemby. It's a fact. FFS, his fanatics had to beg for the coach and agitate the Orlando organization to let him play in Summer league.

Is Europe really a even possibility at this point? He can't even get minutes on his old team whose bigs aren't exactly top tier. I hope he doesn't wear out his welcome on the Bleague. Didn't he only signed a short term contract? I wonder if he'll regret that.

I mean Juan GDL was able to do it. He'll have no problem getting signed in one of the minor basketball league or lower tier team in Europe. Is Kai a Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Olympiacos type of player? Obviously not. But if that opportunity comes to him, he should def accept it.

bigger question though is the pay, does Lithuania and all those minor european leagues pay better than japan? Kai and his handlers seems to focus on 2 things only, get the biggest paycheck possible and second, be showcased for nba scouts

Possible if money is not their number 1 priority. Deep inside his family knows his true potential. They will not risk him spending years in Europe earning peanuts to hone his game for an eventual entry to the NBA if they know he doesn't have what it takes. This is why they have been settling for shortcuts that earn him big bucks even if there is little to no development involved.

feels like this is whats been happening, market the "NBA prospect monicker" and use it as leverage.

do you consider this development as kai's 'last card" so to speak? if he doesn't impress will there still be teams outside the pba that will show interest in him or will it be time to come home?

the nbl posted the old video of kai doing a reverse dunk off an alley hoop yesterday (or was it the other day?), does that mean nbl teams are again interested with kai?

I agree. This is the best time to expose our younger bigs. No matter how disappointing Chiu should be there. Japan took the effort to acquire one of our own just because he was tall. Exposing our young bigs to better competition is a must for their development.

That’s why I don’t get some of those trolls here trolling Chiu, as they think we should put best players in every game even against weak opponents… they think we need Kouame and Edu (or Kai) against HK… WTF!!! Against Hong Kong!!! We can beat them even we parade the MPBL champs or even worst college team in UAAP/NCAA… their level are way below even Vietnam and Malaysia will beat that team…

reminds me of how mikee reyes berated japanese guards as mpbl level,. true HK has a weak program but we should never disrespect them, i think sending the worst college team or a mpbl team is no different from sending the RP-Cebuana team that lost to the paranaque jets.

Maybe Kai could still go to the Salah Mejri/Haddadi route in going to play in the NBA? Mejri was already 26 when he first played in ACB and 29 when he first played in the NBA, while Haddadi was already 28. I'm still hoping Kai will make it, since it just sucks when they say in the Philippines "Basketball is a Religion" but has produced 0 NBA players while countries where basketball isn't all that famous, some even lack the facilities while having only 1/4 the population PH has produce multiple ones (every damn year too lmao) is kind off embarrassing for me lol

anything is possible but not everything is probable, in kai's situation the only way to get to the nba is dominant play in another top tier international pro league

My point here is we should take that opportunity to bring those prospects, RP will be on losing side long term if we still bring mostly veterans against weaker teams... Great national teams mostly using those games as their long term program as they parade players who have potential and need exposure...

If this is your point, then go straight to the point. You love posting exaggerated dramatic replies then will get offended when people ridicule or disagree with your ridiculous statements.

Kaya mo naman pala magpost ng mas sensible replies eh.

Kai as an Asian and a Filo is expected to mature physically much later than blacks and Caucasians. Not all are built the same but he will eventually peak and mature. Kai's skillset will always be there and that is his selling point. Pano di madali mapapagod si Kai nung nagpro e lugi always sa strength.haha Kung si Chet lumaro dito sa WC, he will also be dominated by older players. What happened to 24 yr old JMF last 2013? He was maligned and embarrassed on national TV by Chot because he couldn't defend Haddadi at that age. Madami dito sa IBN sobrang opinionated and yet lacks sound views on actual situations. Kai's upside will always be high but as long as he isn't at his peak age then he will still struggle against older and stronger players.

Anong nangyari sa batang Haddadi laban Kay Asi? Yung batang Giannis laban sa Gilas? Dami ding sobrang sablay na di man lang mafactor yung age as compare to competition.lol Di lahat ng players Lebron James and Dwight Howard.haha

Kai at his age needs the right team to cater to his strength and weakness. Aj isnt at his peak but is 2yrs older and his strength would be on defense. Kai will do wonders on offense if you put him in the right situations. When Gilas had issues scoring yesterday, it was only Kai who had a much higher chance of scoring. Prob nitong si choke di niya mamaximize yung capabilities nung bigs.

never gets old
