Jackson Vroman (208-F/C-81) will be the new naturalized and replacement for his compatriot Joe Vogel in the Lebanese NT for the upcoming Asian Championship which will be held in China this summer!

well it is the only exception....for one time only with our basketball national team.:d

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

By the way guys I didn't have the chance to watch him play in the Asian Cup, is he really that good? According to his stats he doesn't shoot the 3 but it's not a pblm now that we have S.Taibi hehe..(who is suposed to arrive today btw). Is Vroman a great defensive player and block shoter? Is he dominant under the basket?

And to Filipino guys: are u happy we didn't take Giles!!!:p

he is a very good player but hes a power forward not a center ... in west asia for clubs he barely scored cuz he was playing center with saba but in asia he was MVP cuz he played the 4 position where priest was the 5 ...so luckily we have a guy maybe even roy samah if hes not injured playing the 5 and the vroman the 4 cuz vroman is too small for a center in terms of height and size

Along with Daniel Faris they shld be fine I think, but if we have a pure center like Kazouh it wld be great of course.
When playing as a center, was he able to defend well against big centers or he was average? do u feel that Vogel is better as a center? (vogel doesn't have that big body too but he managed to guard pretty well so..wht do u think?

karim in west asia he was also the mvp he was very gd in all his appearences

no i dont think he can guard big people cuz hes too small ...its not that vogel is 210 but hes a bit out of shape so he can push off against bigger players vroman is very fit which is good for a running and for him playing the power forward but no way the center cuz i dont think hes big enough to guard a person bigger than him vogel is better than him in this area ...i think if vroman plays the 4 hes gonna be good , if he plays the 5 hes gonna be average if not worse so hopefully we have someone on 5 ...if we dont than we can even say this was a bad pick for a naturalized player ...and im guessing he cost a good amount of money as well

i watched a game for him in the 1st round against riyadi ,,,he scored 8 pts the whole game and 4 of these pts came in the last 40 seconds when noone was playing and he did 2 dunks so to score 4 pts in a whole game i didnt see him as a very good center .....there are 7 footers from china, iran even jordan has one ....we should be trying to compete for the championship and we cant do it without a true center

I do not agree!
A 208cm (6'10) guy is not considered to be undersized as C, almost average for international standards!!
That was one thing, the other thing is that height doesn't reflect anything regarding the player's abilities and skills.

And guys there is an important thing that I would like to mention here, basketball now is different from basketball 10 years ago. The G, F, and C positions are now much more flexible than before, now we see the PG takes some sneaky attempts under the basket, while a C can play the pick n roll as well!!
The biggest example is the US NT, USA NT played the Last Olympics without a pure C!!!!!And yet they showed their best performance since years and clinched the title.
We can mention alot of good examples regarding the C (or Height) issue, such as Angola, if I am not mistaken Angola didn't have any 7 footer, or any player above 210cm all along the last decade, yet they are ranked first in Africa!
And guys even Lebanon proves my point valid, remember that we had the silver medals in 2001 and 2007 without a real C!

well yea that's right but what matters right now is whether he can defend big guys or not....hopefully he would be able to do so....oh and btw dont forget guys we still have a gd defender of the bench who is ali kanaan

well 1st of all USA got outrebounded by 15 rebounds against spain in the final and won by 8 ....if they dont put a college coach as their head coach than they could,ve won that game by 20+ by putting a normal height lineup and not getting outrebounded and they wouldnt have lost in 2006 either ....2nd of all lebanon has 3 silver medals not 2 (01,05 and 07) and 3rd u just said vroman is a C since 208 is considered a C , and than u said lebanon won silver medals without a C , doesnt vogel qualify as a C at 210 :p

Hehehe!Dude..for God sake..I hell know that Lebanon had the silver medal 3 times:eek:..but i didn't mention 2005 coz i assumed that u know we had Paul Khoury as our center, so this wont back up my point which i was trying to prove...
Second, Vogel never played as pure C!!!!And again i repeat, height doesn't reflect the position, I just tried to clarify that we can benefit from Vroman in the same manner we did with Vogel, this means using him on both PF and C...so am i going wrong with that?!!!;)

Congrats for Lebanon on getting Vroman! He's a great addition to our NT!

Guys Vroman plays very similar to Vogel. He's a great player from inside and outside and can shoot the 3.

Even though Vogel is 211 and Vroman is 208 it's not a big deal.

One of the main reason why Mahram won the Asian Championship cup last month was because of Vroman's great performance throughout the whole tournament.

According to some videos I watched on youtube, he seems to be good on offence with the ability to move quickly and run fast. Good ball handling also. He likes to dunk a lot as we can see from many videos such as this one where he makes like more than 5 explosive dunks..

still the defense has to be checked, since it is the most important thing we need from him.

Are u sure he can shoot the 3?! cz from the few statistics I found on the net, he had almost no 3 pts attempts. If u have any stats pls post them!

Great addition for Lebanon, no doubt. But will he play just this year for the Asia Championship or will he be a part of the Lebanese national team from now on?

I watched a few games of him and that's why i'm saying he's a mobile player who can score from different angles.

Here are his stats from the last Asian Championship with Mahram.

If u scroll down the page it states that he was 3-7 (43%) from 3PT range in the 7 games he played in the Asian Championship. But if u look at his 2 PT FG he was 59-88 (67%)!! from the field. (I'm sure that Vogel is a better 3PT shooter but what's great for Vroman is his mid range scoring as well as from under the basket).

In the 2 games against Riyadi in the last Asian Championship Vroman scored 13 points against Riyadi in the 1st game and 27 points (10-15 FG, and 7-10 FT) against them in the more important semifinal match in 31 minutes of play ;)
