For those who know me, know that I'm definitely not a Kobe fan however, I put forth the question to all you Laker fans out there: Is Kobe "The Greatest Laker ever"? If not, will he be?

Whenever, I think of the question: "Who is The Greatest Laker Ever?" the player that immediately comes to my mind is Magic Johnson, followed CLOSELY by "The Captain", Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

However, if we look at the accomplishment of Kobe and what he "could" achieve this year (best record, MVP, Finals MVP, another championship) maybe he could overtake Magic or Kareem ... or has he already taken over the two?

Same here. Kobe has at least those two ahead of him.

While I don't like this guy, I won't deny that he has everything to be called great: Amazing skill, leadership, championships. But Magic has more of that and he is with Bird the one who put basketball and the NBA on a whole new level. Plus there's Kareem's scoring records, countless championships, his most beautiful shot in basketball and like 20 pro years. You could even argue about Jerry West, but Kobe can't climb higher than #3.

Until he gets that 5th ring I'm not really considering him up on the same level as Kareem and Magic. Jerry West is really debatable. He's certainly in the top 10 and probably top 5.

Jerry West still has the milestone of having a Quadruple Double while Kobe has none. One up for Jerry.

In terms of finals performance; I prefer Magic Johnson, especially his rookie year when they clashed against his boyhood hero; Julius Erving and the Philadelphia Sixers. Before capping off a championship, and when Kareem Abdul Jabbar was injured; Magic started out as a Center then played forward guarding his hero and then switched to guard; often alternating between 1 and 2. The rest was history as the Lakers won the title and it was Magic's first. He called his stint: CFG Rover.

Are we talking peak value or career value? You can certainly argue that a few other guys (where's the love for Elgin Baylor?) were better than Kobe at their peak, but Kobe is going to give the Lakers more prime years than anyone else.

It's funny that the US media has finally jumped on the Kobe bandwagon the last couple years, just as LeBron has clearly surpassed him.

I will rank Magic Johnson, Abdul-jabbar, wilt chamberlain, jerry west, and shaq ahead of kobe bryant as the greatest lakers player in history.

Wilt Chamberlain/Magic Johnson are the greatest LA Lakers player ever!

1-2. Wilt Chamberlain/Magic Johnson
3. George Mikan
4. Jerry West
5. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
6. Elgin Baylor
7. Jim Pollard
8. James Worthy

Shaq is on top number 11 and Kobe is on top number 12 as far

No. Atleast 3 Laker Greats are ahead of him. Its Magic, Kareem, and Wilt. Then a toss up between Kobe and Shaq

definitely not. magic for me is the first in the list, followed by kareem, and wilt. kobe is in the top 10 but not the greatest. if he can accomplish more maybe over time he can be the best.

If Kobe can help the Lakers win at least another 2 Championships then he could end up becoming the greatest Laker ever.
Right now I would say he's in 3rd place behind Magic and Kareem.

Wilt Chamberlain's best years came before he donned a Lakers jersey. His best years came when he was still with the San Francisco / Philadelphia Warriors / Philadelphia Sixers. Those were the years when he would anchor the entire team on his shoulder and in 1967 snapped Bill Russell and the Celtic's 8 straight consecutive championships.

When Wilt Chamberlain came aboard the Lakers, he was just now part of the machinery of the team as in 1972 won an NBA record of 33 game winning straight and won the Championship that year. After 1972, it all went down hill for Chamberlain and the Lakers due to old age.

So, I don't consider Wilt as among the Greatest Lakers ever; not Karl Malone or Gary Payton when they came aboard the Lakers band wagon; its like considering Pete Maravich as one of the greatest Celtics ever when he played for the Celtics or Robert Parish played for the Chicago Bulls.

In my opinion: 1 - Magic 2 - Kareem Abdul Jabbar 3 - Kobe Bryant 4 - Shaq
5 - Jerry West / Elgin Baylor

So Kobe has no 5 .. could he get no 6 within the last 4 years of his career?

Right now, where does Kobe rank?

If he does get no 6, where do you think it'll rank him among the Laker greats?

For me Kobe now is right behind Magic as the second best player ever for the Lakers (I had considered him as 3rd at the beginning of the season) especially due to the great comeback against the Celtics and how their season finished this year.

Kobe and the trophy ...

Kobe and the trophy ...

Did anyone notice that when the Co-Captains of LA were handed the trophy Kobe took it off Fisher and lifted the trophy along with his Finals MVP trophy rather than with Fisher?

Typical Kobe ...

and that comment about Kobe having one more than Shaq ... of course, it's true but that is so arrogant of him to say that ... typical Kobe ... such an arrogant prick

at least he didn't ask Shaq how his :Dss tastes

How about Shaq dissing Kobe in 2008 in one of his rap songs. Kobe has 5 championships 2 more to eclipse Jordan.

Behind Shaq's head, this must be running "Yo Kobe, I got three in LA and 1 in Miami on my own. While you only had 2 on your own.":D
