Reggie Miller to succeed Bird?

There is a rumor suggesting that Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon is looking at former Indiana Pacer star Reggie Miller as a candidate for President of Basketball Operations when Larry Bird steps down.

Six former Indiana Pacers (including the ABA days) are in the list of nominees for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2012.

Reggie Miller - It is about time Miller is nominated and hopefully be enshrined in the hall of fame. Second all time in three point field goals made.

Mark Jackson - Third in the all time assist leaders. Jackson helped the Pacers become a contender in the late 90's and an NBA Finals appearance in 2000.

Donnie Walsh - The man who drafted Reggie Miller and transformed the Pacers into an Eastern Conference Playoff team for several years.

Mel Daniels - Lead the Pacers in their ABA Days to three championships. He ranks fourth in the ABA all time scoring leaders and first in rebounding.

George McGinnis - One of the most talented players who ever put on a Pacers jersey. From the span of the 1972-79, McGinnis averaged 24.4 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.09 steals.

Bobby "Slick" Leonard - Perhaps the best coach in the ABA that guided the Pacers to three championships in 1970, 1972 and 1973. The winningest coach in ABA history.

Prior the draft, the Indiana Pacers explored a possible trade for Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap. The Pacers may or may not explore the Millsap trade after the lockout.

Then the Pacers are also eyeing free agent forward David West.

A productive power forward could elevate the Pacers into an Eastern Conference elite.
