Sweating the Finals with the Contenders

And then there were two. The scenarios for overall victory are very simple as it turns out. The following results will determine the overall winner of the IBN 2014 World Cup Prediction Game:

Migelitas (209): FRA win
Dr. T (208): LTU win

Both Dr. T and Migelitas predicted that USA would beat SRB by 23 points, so the overall winner of the prediction game will be decided today.

Buzissa, who is 9 points behind the leaders, cannot catch up because he predicted the same score as Migelitas for the LTU-FRA game (-7) which means that he will not be able to gain enough points from the USA-SRB game to make up the difference since all three top players picked USA to win.

There is a chance that Buzissa could slip out of the top 3 if LTU beats FRA. Either HeinrichMohr or usagre might finish 3rd if that happens.

The winner of the overall country standings will definitely be LTU. I don't see how they can lose a 10-point lead with only two games left to play. However, silver and bronze medals are up for grabs, with ITA, ESP, POR and USA all within 4 points of each other.

If LTU wins, usagre will secure a place on the all-tournament team with the most correct predictions.

Congrats, Migelitas! You did it.

2nd place in the overall individual standings is still up for grabs. Dr. T is 3 points ahead of Buzissa. Dr. T predicted USA by 23, Buzissa predicted USA by 15. So if USA beats SRB by 15 points, Buzissa will finish 2nd, Dr. T 3rd; and if USA wins by 14 or 16 points, Dr. T and Buzissa will tie for 2nd place. Any other result and Dr. T will finish 2nd, Buzissa 3rd.

POR is now in 2nd place of the overall country standings, 1 point ahead of ESP and ITA. 2nd and 3rd place are still up for grabs with one game to go.

# of correct predictions: Migelitas and usagre are the co-winners of this category. They have 60 correct predictions and cannot be caught by anyone since the top players all predicted a USA victory.

# of 'within 3' predictions: apiSigbinz is now in the lead with 23 'within 3' predictions. There is a slight chance that he will have to share the top prize with Migelitas or radallo who currently have 22 'within 3' predictions

# of perfect predictions: Buzissa and sambaras have 6 perfect predictions. sambaras did not make any predictions for the finals round, so Buzissa will definitely win this category outright or tie for first place. He might be joined at the top by Dr. T and Kienzan who currently have 5 perfect predictions.

Good luck everyone.

congrats to everyone. a special thanks to christodoulou76 for inviting us to have some fun. hope to see the regulars in the EL pages very soon, it looks to be an interesting year.

I am sure that Billy Bounce will run the EL prediction game this year as in past years. He always does a great job and has forms that automate the process nicely. I might try to incorporate forms (that players fill out online) into the Eurobasket prediction game next year.

Im thinking of doing it for the PBA season this year... so maybe some help?

Congratulations Migelitas and thanks christodoulou76 for running the game. You both did a great job.
