Hamed Haddadi the next big thing

Thanks Mohsen,
I like how the headcoach says something like "you have to earn your spot in the team". Watching Thabeet get as much minute as he does makes me wonder that I either don't know the meaning of the word earn, or that earn has a different meaning in his vocabulary!

Thabeet is younger (I hope, there were some questions) and more athletic, and was picked with a #2 pick, of course they are more interested in developing him, not Haddadi. Sure it's unfair, but that's how it works in the NBA. It's always hard to be the first (pave the road) too.

I do hope he's traded to another team so we can see what he can do in another setting. Something tells me, however, that he will only have a Mengke Bateer-type career (whose career high is 12, 1 more than Hamed :D )

Sinobball, I agree, they are planning on developing Thabeet and he is younger by 2 years (Hamed is only 25 and I don't think he's old for developing). Moreover, in my opinion Thabeet hasn't lived up to his #2 seed, and I'm not sure if he is much more athletic than Hamed.
Getting back on the topic, its disingenuous of the head coach to say that he has to earn his spot. I don't think Thabeet is getting more minuter because he has earned it.
Me too, I hope Hamed leaves Memphis, and I hope he has a better career than Bateer (I just checked Bateer's stats, he averaged 15 min in 2001 at Denver, if Hamed gets as much minutes wherever he goes, he might be able to put some good stats on the board).

Any info on when Hamed Haddadi will finally join and play with the Iranian NT?

Love, peace and respect from the Philippines! Go Haddadi, make Asia proud! :)

Hamed Haddadi is currently averaging 22 ppg and 10.3 rpg on the FIBA World Championships.

Hamed Haddadi has yet to join the Memphis Grizzlies on training camp. The Grizzlies had not issued a clear statement on the details of "Legal Issues" that Haddadi is currently pre-occupied and addressing in Iran.

Anyone has info on this? It will be most appreciated.

yes he is still here training with the national team.

I think I know the reason but I can't write it here because It's his personal issue (and I'm not sure). he is sued by a person. not a big problem at all.

I see. Thanks for the info nonetheless.

Wow. I hope he joins the team soon. If anything happens to Randolph, Gasol, or Thabeet, Haddadi is going to get some major minutes! Everybody knows that Haddadi can play basketball...look at the posts above this. He averaged 20+ points, 10+ rebounds and 4 blocks in Turkey over the summer. The dude can play!

according to the news, Hamed Haddadi will leave Tehran for Memphis today.

Grizzlies center Hamed Haddadi arrives in Memphis after being detained in Iran

Hamed Haddadi has finally arrived at his second home.

The 7-foot Grizzlies center, who was detained in his native Iran because of a legal issue, arrived in Memphis early Friday after missing the first three weeks of training camp.

Haddadi immediately underwent a team physical and was expected to rejoin his teammates during a shoot-around before the Griz host the Milwaukee Bucks for a preseason game tonight in FedExForum.

"We hope he's in good shape," Griz general manager Chris Wallace said. "He's coming onto a moving train now. He's definitely behind from a number of standpoints."

Haddadi is entering his third NBA season. He is scheduled to earn about $1.6 million this season, but the Griz could dock Haddadi's salary for the five preseason games he missed, according to the league's collective bargaining agreement.

Haddadi landed in Memphis at roughly 8:15 a.m. on a red-eye flight from San Francisco. He was on a plane for a total of 27 hours after leaving Iran.

The Grizzlies said Haddadi's visa was in order and that certification did not prevent him from missing the start of training camp.

It is believed that Haddadi was going through a contentious divorce. Although not prohibited, divorce is strongly discouraged in Islam and disapproved by Iranian culture.

Haddadi did return to Iran to participate in the World Championships this summer with his national team. The Griz, however, had little to no contact with Haddadi since the World Championships in Turkey.

"I don't expect anything," Griz coach Lionel Hollins said when asked what Haddadi's condition could be. "He hasn't done anything since the Worlds so how would we know."

Haddadi averaged 2.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 36 appearances for the Grizzlies last season.

Hollins stated the obvious when he confirmed that Haddadi would be hard-pressed to see the court for Memphis anytime in the near future.

"He's not a part of what we're doing," Hollins said. "He's behind, and he's got a long ways to go to catch up. It's going to take a lot of work. The question is does he have the mentality and the work ethic to get it done?"

Grizzlies center, girlfriend charged with assault

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP)—Police say Hamed Haddadi of the Memphis Grizzlies and his girlfriend have been charged with assault following an altercation between the two.

Memphis police were called Thursday morning to a downtown apartment building and found Haddadi, a backup center from Iran, and his girlfriend with bruises and scratches.

The arrest report says a verbal disagreement turned physical, and both Haddadi and Goolnaz “Asal” Karbalaeinematmoeeney were taken to the Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement that the team is aware of the incident and withheld comment while they gathered facts.

Haddadi has played in only four of the Grizzlies’ first 15 games.

It seems out of character for Haddadi..... I guess when you are provoked....

This won't do him no good.... He's already out of the rotation since he missed alot of games with the team (due to his divorce in Iran) and not being able to add any value on the team and now this... I just hope Memphis keep faith in him or else Haddadi might be out of the team and maybe the NBA before the end of the season.

oh what a shame ! i thought he is smarter than that !
but it's still early to judge

The charges have been somewhat dropped. He still has to appear in court which I find odd, but I could ask some lawyer friends to see what that involves.

From my understanding of reading a few reports. They were drunk were trying to get frisky then all hell broke loose. She apparently got mad when she fell off the bed then ran to the bathroom. She locked the door then he got angry and smashed it in. She through something at him which caused him to cut his hand. Then things turn iffy. She is kind of cute in a dirty iranian white trash kind of way.:p

IMO not a good move by Hamed. He needs to leave memphis and try to get playing time somewhere else.
