No, thats not funny mate... you were expected to win. the funny thing though is someone from the Giant team complaining about the way the smaller team plays the game and almost cost them the game...:)
 
Guys please don't pay attention to KWSN-Men. He is not representative of the Greek IBN community. I apologize for his rude behavior! And I will be watching and rooting for PHI against PUR! :)

Teams can not all be skillfully equal. That's sports. I can't follow the argument that "two teams are tactically and skillfully equal, but one team tries to break the rhythm of the game because they are shorter and not because the have lesser skill set."

Greece also tries to break the rhythm of top teams in football. Far thing to say that Greece has as much skills as say Argentina in football, but Greece are slower so they choose to play defense and break the rhythm.

Anyway, I am surprised by the performance of the Philippines nonetheless. They have showed the world that they are no easy ride for anyone.

There are many kind of plays employed here in the Philippines. even the Euro ball was introduced by a Serbian coach in the earlier Gilas team. But mainly its the run-and-gun style and hustle D that's use (kind of like an identity). It is only when we face taller opponents that we have limited options in running plays to offset the size disadvantage. One cant simply say that one thing is inferior to the other only because they don't play on the same platform.
If the Filipino players would have more or less the same average height as any European team possessing the same skillsets they have now and employing Euroball what would be the outcome? we can never know, but only then can we say that Filipinos are less skilled and talented than Europeans.
One thing I really admire though is the mechanical precision of Europeans in ball and player movement. This is something I don't see that much in Filipino basketball.

That one by Tenorio was cheap. I grant you that. As for the rest of the team, how do you expect we play euro style D when our players are a head smaller than yours? If we wont play physical definitely your Greek frontline would be feasting down low all night.We cant afford to play Defense the way you are accustomed to because Filipinos are midgets by European standard.
In basketball and life in general you fight or survive using what you have. Not with what you wish you have or what your opponents possessed.

I thought the Greeks because they got lots of famous warriors in history are tough...... why they keep whining about the play of a much smaller team like Philippines?

You don't hear Argentina complaining about Gilas even though their game against RP are more intense since it's a close game. Is this the reason why Argentina has won the Olympics and FIBA world cup and greece has nada?

Greece has the talent and size to dominate basketball in world stage and they are one of the eight founding members of the International Basketball Federation (since 1932) but until now they have not won it all (Olympics/FIBA).
 
OT: it started from some Greek fan complaints then it became a gay thread.

1. The Dutch are the tallest nation in the world. I don’tsee them winning anything in basketball. On the contrary, they are a top nationin football, a sport that favors shorter than average people. Pinoys should excelin football I guess, being shorter than average, but they don’t, because theydon’t have the SKILLS.

2. Since this is not Trach and Field, it comes down toskills, as with any sport. Greeks are in South Europe and are not the tallestEuropeans but that doesn’t stop them doing rather well the last 30 years, sincethey developed their own school of basketball and skills and tactics.

You don’t have size, but you’re faster, right? So play double teams, play intricate defensive systems. Use tactics. But that would be harder mental, physical and basketball wise so why bother? Let’s play dirty. Oh and let’s pay some Americans to become Philippinos so we can say we have a good team.

WAR is where people try to kill each other.

FIGHTING SPORTS are where people try to subdue or knockout each other.

BASKETBALL is where people try to get a ball through ahoop. When there is illegal contact, refs call fouls. When players try to hitwithout being seen by the refs, especially in the balls etc, it’s not playinghard, it’s playing dirty.
PS: Greeks won against the Persians 2500 ago, althoughthey were greatly outnumbered because of better equipment, superior skills andmore advanced tactics. Seeing a pattern here?
I guess all these things are hard for you guys tounderstand, just now trying to familiaize yourself with how the game is playedinternationally and not how you came to think the game is played. We’ll giveyou time, eventually you’ll learn.

And whats wrong with naturalizing someone to strengthen the team.
Europeans popularize naturalization. Spain currently have one(IBAKA).



I think we should lock this thread now because its been over already and some guys(most) are just trolling the thread. :(
