Group B, Day 1, USA vs. Croatia

August 28, 1996. Final day of the group stage at the Atlanta Olympics. Rematch of the 1992 Gold Medal game.The US was 4-0 and Croatia 3-1, with only a two-point loss to Lithuania. Who would have guessed that the teams wouldn't meet again until 2010?
 
It's been awhile huh, still remember the games in 1992.

First game I expect the US to come out fired up, maybe make a few mistakes in their haste, but they'll pull away and win comfortably by the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately won't be able to watch this game live due to work. :(
 
Rooting for Team USA but acknowledges the Croatians. Team USA better bring their A-Game from every game hereon.

Unfortunately, they're airing it on low-def ESPN Classic, a channel I just happen to not have with my cable package (the so called "sports leaders" f-ing things up again. Why is it not on ESPN or ESPN 2 HD?) I'm hoping NBA TV re-airs it later in the day. I could watch it on ESPN 3, but I'm still not use to the idea of using the internet as a TV. I'll watch a game if I have to but I hate it when I need to.

ESPN 3 is great, great quality and you can watch more then 1 game at once :D

Also do you play xbox 360? Because if you do, ESPN 3 is going to let you watch on your xbox soon, in September. Hopefully during the WC


Edit: Some say not until November now :(

Great tid bit. The USA is 3-0 all-time against Croatia; the meeting you mentioned and two match-ups in 1992 (prelims and gold medal match) with the Dream Team up against Toni Kukoc, Drazen Petrovic, Dino Radja & Co.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I do have a 360 but it's not connected to the internet. I'll check out ESPN 3 if necessary, but I'm an old fashion kind of guy when it comes to viewing sports. I love the remote in my hand! I guess I gotta get use to the internet viewing thing.
 
Oh perucho123, by voting for Croatia are you just looking for controversy or do you just feel sorry for them because they received no votes?
 
i think people are underestimating croatia. after US guards croatia has the best and dept at the perimeter. ante tomic is a good young player and banic is a bull. their outside shooting is top 3. i think we are gona see a lot of zone defense . something we didnt see in the warm ups. it will be a close game and probably the toughest game of the group stage.

Didn't mean any disrespect for your decision. I think the US does have a tough draw by playing them first, and it could be a potential land mine if they're still having trouble working out their defense. I could see Croatia stretching their defense if those 3s start to fall, putting the US in scramble mode and opening up the lane against an already shakey interior defense. We'll see.
 
need to recognize that even the rather weak looking U.S. team is stronger than the Croats. I think the result will be 92 -75
 
I'll be rooting for our Croatian friends, but i doubt it will help. In a few years may be when their young guys mature.
 
It would be interesting to see how would USA team react if Croatia pulls upset some how. USA is the heavy favorite but you can"t underestimate Croatia.
