Greek NT 2025

Guys we are heading towards Eurobasket and I dont see any excitement in the Greek community. Where is the Greek enthusiasm and pride, where are the defenders of Greek Hellenism and Greek basketball superiority? :D

Lol there is none. There is Giannis and the rest mid-at-best role players none of whom can play the role we would like them to. I have a small hope that in a small tournament Toliopoulos will look like TJ Warren in the Bubble and that Papagiannis will be decent. Maybe Spanoulis will be able to squeeze some stuff out of younglins like Avdalas.

Giannis is more than most teams can offer and this is national team. There is no room for rationality. Always proud, always overconfident. And you never know who might play a great tournament. Toliopoulos could turn out to be the next "kill bill" with 6 three pointers. 👍

Haha ok, I’ll change my tune when the Eurobasket starts but only for you 🙃

Based on our depth, it’s going to have to come from team work along with Giannis. Our players are not really killing it individually. But I know Greece is able to make good teams out of many average players. At this point, I am beginning to think that some of our former star players are overrated, while some of our bench players are underrated.

That said, I do hope that players like Calathes and Sloukas will join.

This is the spirit! Greeks are most dangerous when nobody expects anything of them, when they play lock down defense and keeps their opponents below 70 points! 💪

Basketball has changed. Need offence as well nowadays. I am thinking Giannis is our Galiis. Making sure that we can put in some numbers.

Yeah, I have the feeling we have little to loose. Other countries are rated better, based on results. Germany, France, Spain, Serbia, Lithuania. Then there is Latvia. And Turkey is also very strong. Not forgetting Slovenia and Croatia. They can all match Greece roster wise. So nothing to loose.

I am not saying this to jinx Greece. It just is. Greece is not packed with star players. No Printezis, or Spanoulis or Calathes and Sloukas in their prime. There is only Giannis. We need team work and luck.

And I don't like this group phase in Cyprus at all. If the Final phase is not in Greece, then it's better to play all games in a non friendly environment.

When Olympiacos also renovates their basketball arena in the next two years, I opt for a World Cup in Greece and Turkey.

I have no idea what’s the deal with Rogkavopoulos and the NT. If he plays, he’ll be a great spacing factor.

He does not seem to be very eager to play but yes, he would help a lot.
Rogkavopoulos had personal issues last year. He may very well play. He is an important factor since Papapetrou retired.

Sloukas confirmed that he will be on the team. This is quite important.

Walkup will not be on the team this summer. So perhaps Dorsey will play instead.

Pao players (Sloukas, Mitoglou, Toliopoulos, Kalaitzakis, Samodurov) “wrote” a letter (more like were given a document to sign) that talks about how the Greek federation needs get their shit together in regards to refereeing. It’s so cringe if I’m being honest because the text cites “the past 4 years” which includes years were Sloukas was with Oly, Mitoglou was with Armani, and Samodurob was a teenager playing for DEKA. The list of signees also includes Toliopoulos who is with the team for like 2 months. Embarrassing stuff from the Pao higher ups that made them sign this.

So Rogkavopoulos has chosen to be out for the second year in a row because he puts club or rather personal career developement above national team. Although I appreciate honesty I dislike the choice. If I am not mistaken, he is the first greek who tries to shape his career like this. Or were there other greek players who made a strong club career without NT participation? Lets see if this works out. I hope not.

Apart from that Greece continues where it stopped in last year's brick contest. But apart from that I read a lot of criticism and complains in greek media about the team? Why is that? Apart from Kalathes and Papagianis the team is almost the same.

Sorry for the delay, here I am. Although writing for internet forums is my main job, I also have a side job that earns me money. On top of that, my spoiled family wants to go on vacation all the time. Now that I'm back, I can focus on what's important in life: Eurobasket.
I love you! Great to have you back. I have home office and can postpone work for a short time.

P.S. I miss here Hellenic patriotism. We have to change that. Something like "we had democracy when you were living on trees" attitude. :D

Well, its not the same. This time you have Dorsey instead of Walkup and Sloukas is also very valuable around Giannis. Rogkavopoulos would help a lot though.

Based on their past performance with the national team, I don't see much improvement in having these two players in the tournament. Dorsey played well in the group stage of Eurobasket 2022, but his shooting percentage dropped in the knockout phase, when it would have mattered most. Sloukas's playing style is incompatible with Giannis's. He hogs the ball too much and needs it in his hands to score. Sloukas's specialty is set plays, but Giannis needs fast transitions to make use of his physical abilities in FIBA games. That's a huge problem, considering that Sloukas will most likely be our starting point guard.

You have a point here.

My hope—or maybe it's more of a dream—is that Toliopoulos will suddenly realize that he's part of the long tradition of Greek mega-god guards and have the tournament of his life with crazy three-point shooting, surprising penetrations, and efficient assists.
