Greek NT 2024

I really how things work in Greece but when I was Greek I would have been furious about his decision. I couldnt care less about the PAO OLY rivalry. Consider me as the Greek version of Fasoulaki. Only the NT matters for me.

I understand that players of a certain age and above estimate their body's limits and take some risks when they don't take the time to rest. Probably Sloukas felt he didn't need to take any risk after all this criticism he has received all year long

I think the only chance for Greece to qualify is a victory for Canada against Australia and Spain in the next match, and Greece must beat Australia by at least 10 points.
So very little chance if Greece plays like this.

Very well summarized

Calathes has been hurt in the ribs. Let's see if he can play at Friday.

I don’t agree that Greece lost. Every point Greece made counts. Theoretically Greece could win next game and proceed to the next round. Australia won a game and is almost in the same position. They have to win. Its a marathon group.

At this point Greece has less to loose than other teams if you ask me.

You always see the glass half full :)

Perhaps, but everything I said is true. Greece, Spain and Australia have to win. They all control their fait.

I prefer to win on Friday, rather that today.

Australia is the better team and its questionable that Calathes can play.

I agree, but Greece would have to beat Australia regardless.

Australia is clearly favourite. But they still have to beat Greece.

Come on..... Even you should have changed your mind about Calathes after his great season with Fener..

It's not about Calathes but about playing 2 non shooting guards in backcourt with Giannis. Some things just can't work in basketball.

According to you, who is better choice than Calathes from the existing roster?

Just don't play Calathes and Walkup together, if Giannis plays. Giannis doesn't need 2 playmakers on the court with him, he needs as many shooters as possible.

I would for sure play Toliopoulos more than 17 minutes. But more importantly time distribution should be different. You should play as little minutes possible with all Papagiannis/Giannis/Calathes/Walkup together on the court. That quartet together can't work.

Or maybe you can pray for Calathes and Walkup having great shooting night. It can happen, but it's not very likely to happen.

It was clear that Spanoulis didnt trust Toliopoulos at all in the crunch time. I also consider it a mistake but I can understand his thoughts.

They say national teams are not like clubs where you can choose the player you need. Well, not entirely true. The naturalisation option gives you one such player. Walkup is not the right man for the team with Giannis.

It’s not that Greece doesn’t have shooters. It does. It just that it lacks one or two pure shooters which can loosen up the team. I.e. Sloukas and Dorsey.
Perhaps Sloukas opting out last minute was bad for the team. I think a Sloukas Walkup combo would not have been bad. But the rivalry has poisoned that.

Also, playing just three games against such competition is tough. Hard to gain momentum and get the shooters to roll.

That said, you never know when they have their day. Because

And that's why not having Calathes might benefit Spanoulis.

I agree totally, except about that's hard for shooters to roll. It's hard if Calathes/Walkup/Papagiannis/Giannis play 115 minutes, a lot of the time together. It's far the worse shooting lineup in the whole tournament, you need a little miracle for that lineup to work and have good shooting night.

I don't follow closely Greek team, but why Mitoglou is not getting more minutes instead of Papagiannis, when Giannis is on the court?
