Greek NT 2024

After watching the press conference after the Poland game, I have to say that Spanoulis is not very communicative as a coach. He was looking at his notes all the time and spoke very monotonously. In addition, his words lacked enthusiasm and inspiration. For example, he said that the Greek national team did not and does not play good basketball because of the lack of preparation time. Wow, that really gives me extra motivation as a player. I doubt he will have the same effect on the players as Giannakis did.

So it seems Spanoulis strategy is to let the players shoot as many 3pts shots as they want and let primarly do Giannis the inside game with some contribution from Papagiannis and Kosta Antetokoumpo. Could work out!

In my opinion the strongest possible roster Greece can fetch aside from Sloukas instead of Moraitis.

Rogkavopoulos would have probably been cut from this roster and Papapetrou would be playing instead of Charalampopoulos. But I think that Charalampopoulos may be a better fit for this team.
Walkup and Calathes seem to be a great combo. Greece may have chances to qualify with this team. But if they want to compete against the best at the Olympics they need Sloukas on that team. That is, IF Greece qualifies. But Croatia and Slovenia may have something to say about that. If I remember correctly, Slovenia eliminated Lithuania in previous OQT. This season, Slovenia chose Nebo instead of Tobey in order to limit Giannis chances in the paint.

It seems nothing could take your optimism away from you :D

I have to say that I am surprisingly more optimistic this year than in previous years. Of course, not everything goes smoothly. We have injuries and absentees, and the Greek league finals have once again left their mark on the national team. But for some reason I'm confident that we won't make a fool of ourselves this year. Next week will know more.

Probably, because of the hca and thats really a reason to be optimistic cause Greece is a force at home but I see some problems too and beating Doncic wont be that easily. Doncic will use Nebo perfectly and there are still guys like Cancar.

It’s not the optimism. All I can ask is to assemble one of our best possible squads. If we make it, fantastic. If not, fine. We gave it our best shot. I can appreciate that these players sacrificed themselves for the team. But if that’s all we can do. Then that’s all we have. Better luck next time. May the best team win. One can not ask for more.

It's difficult to play great pick&roll in just few games playing together. And you shouldn't forget that Tobey was so good with Luka, because they could play pick&pop too. Nebo could be proved much more useful in D than in offensive side. Slovenia overall is very limited team, Cancar and Muric didn't play for 1 year, they are far away from the best form. Luka will need to have one of those crazy games for Slovenia to have a chance and I'm not convinced he's capable of that after season he had. I wouldn't be too surprised, if Croatia wins the tournament, they have great starting 5. If everything goes normal, Greece will have very difficult semis and finals. This group is far the most difficult. Greece slight favourites because of home court, Croatia with legit chances.

Sounds like a very interesting tournament. Whoever will qualify for the Olympics will be well prepared for the Olympic tournament! Thats for sure.

I don't feel that we are favourites, but still it is good to see that we are first in power rankings:

No, its not if you have Luka.

This option should be history but you have someone who can at least make life tough for Giannis.

Doesnt say much if Doncic is on 90%. The role player need just to make their shots. Doncic will create for everyone.

Luka has always a facial expression which gives you the feeling that he is lazy and sloppy but he is very very competitive. I see the chances 51% to 49% for Greece.

Doncic can only beat himself, as he did in the quarterfinals of Eurobasket 22 against Poland. But I do not think he will play with the same attitude against a Greek team with Giannis on the court. But maybe he takes the win over Croatia for granted.

Greeks will be clear favourites but it will be fun watch with popcorns how Doncic gonna break their hearts in one more olympic qualifying tournament fiasco :)

This is the worse Slovenian team in Luka's era.

- Cancar and Muric with 0 basketball in 1 year time.
- Goran retired again.
- Blazic out. Samar, who played some useful minutes in NT out too.
- Luka pretty tired after playoffs. 4 games in 6 days is a lot, especially if you need to play more or less nonstop and doing everything.

It won't happen, but my plan would be, play against Croatia without Luka, beat Greece in semis and Croatia in the Finals. You don't want to play Finals against Greece with already gassed Luka.

Will be a nice game to watch :D

I can feel a little hatred here..
It is just hard reality. Apart from Athens 2008 I remember only Preolympic fiascos with the game against Nigeria in Venezuela being my favorite.
