GB squad announced for Eurobasket qualifiers

Everton Tigers forward Olu Babalola has received a last-minute invite to Great Britain’s training camp as the squad prepares to check into its training base this weekend.

The 17-strong group contains a number of first-timers and as well as losing Joel Freeland and Robert Archibald to injury, head coach Chris Finch will also have to do without Mike Lenzly after the guard’s late withdrawal.

“It is unfortunate that we have suffered a number of high profile injuries, but we now need to concentrate on the players we have available, which is still a very talented group of individuals,” said Finch. “I am really looking forward to the impact the younger guys can make, I have no doubt they have the ability to be very important to the team having worked with them during the GB Futures campaign.

“Two other absentees are Robert Archibald and Mike Lenzly. Both Rob and Mike had long seasons with their clubs, so we are unfortunately going to have to do without them this summer. Although this is a blow, we have planned accordingly and brought in cover in those position.”

Prior to the Eurobasket qualifiers, Finch’s men will take on Canada and Finland in home friendlies next week in Surrey before travelling to Israel to take part in a four-team tournament.

Do you think Ryan Richards will one day be included on the NT, let's say 2012 London Olympics. Richards will be 21 by then. I think it depends on how he develops playing for the San Antonio Spurs.

Luol Deng

Luol Deng

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng scored 32 points and had 9 rebounds to lead Great Britain over Hungary 91-82.

Does anyone have a box score to the England-Melbourne Tigers game?

I checked the NBL official site and the site did not carry any boxscore at all, only an article.

Melbourne Tigers 73 England 55

Luke Nevill finished with a team high 19 points
Lucas Walker 12 points
Matthew Burston 10

All ten of England's roster got on the scoresheet, led by 12 points from Ben Eaves. Taner Adu added 9 pts, with David Watts and Andrew Thomson scoring 8 pts apiece and Stefan Gill 5 pts.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning

Matthew Bryan-Amaning

Great Britain Forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning looks like Luol Deng version 2 as Amaning is 6'9 and has the same skillset that of Deng.

Great Britain 104 Macedonia 96

Chicago Bulls forwardLuol Deng hits a clutch trey to force overtime where in the final two minutes, Great Britain made key plays to seal the win.
Center Pops Mensah Bonsu 27 points and 9 rebounds. Deng with 23 points 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Andrew Sullivan 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Great Britain will be traveling to Bosnia & Herzegovina and looking to maintain their undefeated status. Bosnia & Herzegovina suffered a loss against Hungary last Sunday, leaving Great Britain as the only undefeated team in Group B.

Not really, MBA is a four (he actually plays centre for Washington). He has been developing an outside shot, but his ballhandling is quite poor so I don't think he'll ever be able to play on the perimeter like Deng does.

As for Richards, he could make the team by the time the Olympics come round if he improves, but we probably don't need him really. Joel Freeland would be the starter alongside Pops if he wasn't injured this summer, and we also have a veteran centre in Archibald and a young guy (Clark) who is doing a good job this summer. Richards is way behind all these guys right now.

Great Britain 84 Bosnia & Herzegovina 80

Dan Clark finished with 23 points while Pops Mensah-Bonsu had 16 points and Luol Deng contributed 16 points, 13 rebounds.

Veteran Nate Reinking had 21 points and 3 assists.

These results are fantastic so far. I'm now starting to believe we can establish ourselves properly in the world game, and compete with the best.

The most satisfying thing is the players who are not available this year

BETTS
ARCHIBALD
FREELAND
HART
LENZLEY
GEORGE
GORDON

There is a very good starting 5 in that list. The future is defo bright for GB!!
