Capecoast, are you from Ghana? Do you think you could give us some of your opinions of Ghanian hoops? How about some "amateur" pictures, man?

I'm always interested in basketball leagues all over the world. I think there is some real serious talent out there in places that most of us fans wouldn´t dream of. Please keep us informed about the state of Ghanian basketball!! We want to know, man.

Cape Coast Hoops yesterday defeated Tudu Wizards 59-56 in the ongoing Cabalan Thome Memorial Basketball Tournament at Lebanon House, Accra. Hoops who earlier lost to CEPS in their first game and than to Police in a second game had to prove to the skeptics that they are a team still in contention for the league title. The game was highlighted by three spectacular dunks. An alley-oop dunk by Chris and a fast break reverse dunk by SB. Hoops seems to be winning a lot of support from fans in Accra as many came to the bench of the team to congratulate the boys on their victory. The victory also bring confidence in some of the new players like Ricki Ansong of AUGUSCO who just signup with the team. He was also a great help in the victory. Hoops is expected to play their last game with Yotive on Saturday and will need a big win in order to qualify for the last four. Presently the team is looking forward to the resumption of the league on Aug 15 and a league match against the same Wizards on the 16th. The team is expected to start intensive training at the sports grounds of Prisons Barracks in Cantonment, Accra. In the same group, CEPA won against Police, giving them a third victory in a row in the Cabalan Tournament.

Plans are underway to form the NT but it seems they missed the qualifier held in Ivory Coast.

Yes there are good prospects here in Ghana. The sport is beginning to gather momentum. Once these guys are given the opportunities they can march up with peers anywhere.

6'9" Chris Angsomwine has arrived at Harcum College. Chris has promised to have a very productive year for Harcum and wants his countrymen back in Ghana to follow along online. He stated that one of his goals is to make Hoops proud of his achievements both on and off the court.

Chris spent the weekend with his new teammates and coach and has adjusted well to life in the USA. He is especially fond of the food at the school and said he can’t wait to try an authentic Philadelphia cheese steak.

Cape Coast Hoops on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 won against the Ghana Fire Service team 69-53. The game is in continuation of the Greater Accra Armature Basketball League which was played at Lebanon House, Tudu Accra. Highlights of the day saw two dunks from Saykan Bestman and a monster dunk from Michael DadsonThe game was a must win for Hoops who had earlier lost to the braves of CEPS and Yotive the week before. Hoops lost to Yotive 70-67 and on Sept. 10 lost to Braves of Ceps 101-63. The match against Ceps was a very physical one which saw two Hoops players sustaining cuts they receive from the CEPS players. With the victory against Fire, the team now has two wins and three defeats. Players in the team are confident of wining their remaining matches against Police, Wizards, Flames, and Warrior to make it for the playoffs. Presently some of the players on on camp in Cape Coast training for the match against Police this coming Saturday. Fans should expect nothing less than massive victories in the remaining matches.

Very nice videos! Keep them coming. I'm really impressed at the athleticism of the Ghanian players. It's hard to tell if they are well-coached from the highlight videos, but they certainly don't lack the ability to jump!!

Cape Coast Hoops conquers Tema Basketball

Cape Coast Hoops conquers Tema Basketball

Ask any basketball player and those with knowledge of basketball in Ghana and they will tell you the best players are from Tema. It's no lie as the likes of Daniel Armah, Emmanuel Quaye aka. Rubberman and a host of others hail from that end. They have a good basketball program going there as well boasting of a few teams and the most dreaded of all, the Tema Youth Basketball Team. So hearing of a team coming from outside, not mentioning as far as from Cape Coast, to rule is unheard of. But its history in the making and the so needed change Ghanaians wanted is also moving in the basketball world as well. Yes, Hoops went and conquer. Beating the top three teams, namely, Vikers, Rakers and Tema Youth. It was a one day basketball gala, all play all. Hoops won their three matches against stiff opponents and spectators. Each match was a hard fought one as we were threading on hostile ground. But at the end of each game the lads, who run the coast, always came out victorious. The last game between Hoops and Rakers went into overtime. Upon the team return to Cape Coast with the trophy, the place was on fire as fans congratulated the boys for their achievement. many were pride that Cape Coast still is on top in basketball. Players representing Hoops in the tournament were, Henry Mensah(G-6'1"), Dominic Mensah(G-6'0"), Kojo Bafoe(G-6'4"), John Amoo(F-6'5"), Patrick Ashong(F-6'6"), Mensah Jones(F-6'5"), Alvin Owusu(G-6'1"), Winfred Kauam(F-6'7"), Anas Ben Anas(F-6'5"), Christopher Okpe(F-6'8"), Emeric Malouta(G-6'1") and John Corneh(F-6'5")
