The Memphis Grizzlies will send Pau Gasol and a future second-round pick to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the unofficially retired Aaron McKie , the draft rights to Pau Gasol's brother Marc and future first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

What a steal for the Lakers.

The sweet couple Gasol - Navarro was broken..

But Lakers own Marc Gasol's draft rights so maybe next year we can see a Gasol - Gasol couple.

and Navarro for Fisher?

This is big. I'm actually surprised. It's very rare that superstars get traded. Remember that Gasol was an MVP candidate only 2 years ago. He's a 20-10 player.

Los Angeles will probably run a Twin Towers system with the triangle (can they do that?) (can I still say "Twin Towers"?). Gasol and Kobe? Wow. All I can say is that Kobe must be really freakin' happy. I hate to say this but I think LA is an immediate championship contender.

You just wrote in your thread opening post that Lakers just traded Marc Gasol's rights for Pau Gasol...

Ah you're right, missed that one but I guess we might see another Gasol - Navarro couple then next season.

Great move indeed for the Lakers!
Can they now contend for a title? That possibility is certainly much much closer.
It's also a terrible loss for the Grizzlies, if they were bad, now they theoretically will look horrible... It's time for Gay and Navarro to step up.

I wouldn't be so sure :p

The trade was a definite fire sale by Memphis because the players, expiring players contract and draft choices they received will be of no help to the team this year or next.

I am sorry but Kwame Brown has proven to be a stiff and a wasted top pick. The expiring contract of McKie may help the team get more cap space but it will be of no use when no free agent wants to play for a sorry franchise like Memphis in the future. Crittenton was buried in the LA rotation behind Kobe, now he gets a new lease on life from Memphis. But he is far from being the savior that resurrects the Grizzlies from mediocrity. Those lottery picks will be deep in the first round because of the Lakers record. No lottery picks were involved. Memphis should pray for a miracle that a college super star slides all the way down to their pick or they catch lightning in the bottle and picks a diamond in the rough in the future draft.

The Lakers will definitely contend for the NBA championship and the Western division much stronger. The repercussions will be felt in Dallas immediately and the Mav's may be forced to over pay if they want to pry Jason Kidd away fron the Nets. The asking price for Jason Kidd just went up a notch or two.

Absolutely. I have no doubt about it. Kobe will work well with Pau because Kobe wants to spite Shaq. And frankly, Pau is one of the best centers in the game.

Yeah, I really don't understand why the Grizzlies did this. I mean, 2 future round draft picks is really nice...but Jarvis Crittendon? Kwame Brown?

Im actually shocked. Just when the rumours of a possible transfer of Gasol were colder, this bomb happens.
I think is a great steal by Lakers. Gasol would have much more freedom in the team as the responsability of the main scoring in the team would be for Kobe and he will be the absolute king in Lakers' zone.

Its a pity that Lakers traded Marc Gasol's rights too, could be interesting watch the brothers play together.

Im now glad that Navarro only signed for this year. Next year he could arrange a better contract and maybe be again with a spanish player in Toronto, Portland, LA...

Rudy Gay = Franchise player now, I assume.

I wonder if Pau is going to take minutes away from Bynum once the injury is healed.. Unless Pau starts at 4 and Odom at 3? (Ariza = bench?) See if the Lakers want to win championships down the road, they have to rely on Bynum's development. Pau is a great player, but not someone who can change the game that Bynum can potentially be.

Either case, Pau is a great addition to the red hot Lakers team and other Western teams better watch out this year. If only they get a quality PG...

Marc Gasol is in no way NBA caliber player - he's slow and clumsy.

Gay was elected as the franchise player for the team since he beggining of the season, soma facts of thet you can see in the way they changed the face of Pau in the Grizzlies site, or in that the last shots were always for him this year (there u have an explanation why Memphis has lost so many games in close finals)

Pau is not going to take minutes of Bynum, in fact Bynum is going to take minutes from Pau. The perfect solution would be to put Gasol as a 4, and letting Odom to play much more as a sf.

Potentially Kwane Bown was going to be true dominat center. :D But the truth is that right now Gasol is a dominant and quite decisive player i the paint of any team, and Bynum just isnt. You must have at least one player like Pau in a team if you trully want to be a champion.

If you watch one single game of Akasvayu of this season, you will change your mind

The lakers now are indeed a Championship Caliber team... It's the like the laker resurrection.. hehehe.. With Bynum and Gasol in the middle, they will be definetely be a force to reckon with... Its just a matter of jelling

John Paxson must be killing himself for not doing this when he had the chance.

And so begins another Grizzlies rebuilding project, too many of them for such a short-lived franchise. It's obvious they're doing this because of the salary cap space for this offseason.
