For me Gabe maybe doesn't not show his real game because he is not playing natural position, i believe he is better if he will play PG rather than expect him to score 20+ points but i believe he is a good defender than people think..

Agree to that... plus lets not forget, his stint in the PBA contributed a lot to the deterioration of his skills... comparing his performance for the Chot Reyes-coached RP Team (as a college player) and for the Yeng Guiao-coached RP Team (as a PBA player) said it all...

i agree on this... as what i have posted from way back, nabubulok ang talent nya sa pba.
TRANS: His talent rots in pba.

for smart gilas, i think that will be his decision. <I salute japeth aguilar for sticking and remaining firm in his decision in playing for the smart gilas.> but gabe is not japeth..

maybe, back then at the time of chot reyes RP team he (gabe) sees himself playing for the NT but we don't know what he's been thinking.:(

3 PBA players for Gilas

3 PBA players for Gilas

I know this is a long shot and It would disrupt the chemistry of the Gilas team..but I'm still hoping and day dreaming that these players would be released by the PBA to train and play for the national team(Smart Gilas)..I think the team would look very good not only in paper but will be twice as great as the current roster of Gilas today...I'm sure that this lineup would be the most competitive lineup ever given they will also improve on the other facets of their game such us shooting(make them shoot 500 made 3 point shots a game) and team defense.this is my never ending dream roster of the Pilipinas-Smart Gilas Team.

Gabe Norwood currently plays for Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association where he is in his second year in the league. He has gained the nickname “The President,” a term coined by Filipino sports journalist Quinito Henson in reference to his resemblance to President Barack Obama.

“I’m loving it out here,” Norwood said.

“The country loves the game of basketball and treats its players with a lot of support and respect.”

Norwood in the Philippines was the first overall pick in the 2008 PBA draft, won the Slam Dunk Contest among locals during the 2009 PBA All-Star Week and was named 2008-09 PBA Rookie of the Year.

Norwood’s Final Four experience directly led to his continuing career.

“It just so happened that there were coaches from the Philippines in Indianapolis during the Final Four,” Norwood said. “I’m not sure how exactly they found out that I had Filipino blood (my mom is half Filipino), but I caught their eye there and they kept me on their radar and eventually got me over to play. Long story short, the Final Four run got me the opportunity to continue my career.”

One memory that stands out for Norwood is the constant media exposure he experienced during the Final Four run. “[We had] camera crews follow us around campus,” Norwood said. “I think that’s what got the country on our side. We were accessible.”

He also reminisced about the high level of attention the team got from the school.

“School spirit was at an all-time high,” Norwood said. “The sense of pride, not only at Mason but the whole area, was crazy. Pep rallies, send-off parties, banquets—you name it and we were there. I guess that run set the standard of how much respect the program got from everyone at the university. My senior year, expectations were high, and I’m pretty sure attendance almost doubled for the year.” --By Cody Norman and Rachael Dickson

chris tiu and greg slaughter and casio as reserves? my goodness that's just preposterous.i'm sorry but i just dont think this is right.

also, gabe norwood as NT player? it's bad enough that we accomodated him last 2007 when we're not even sure if he is qualified to be a filipino. by the way, is he reall a filipino,as in legally filipino and not PBA-standard filipino?

that was his choices. so leave it at that. lol

his mom as previously posted is half-Filipino. so what's the problem there? lol

one half filipino? is there even such a thing? even if she's one half filipino by blood, when she's an american citizen by birth, i dont think that makes her son gabe a filipino.

yes, there is such thing called half Filipino. one of the parents is of foreign blood.

besides, if he has a Filipino lineage, why deny him that?
at least he has that lineage unlike mick pennisi and taulava. lol

DOJ says her mother is/was a filipino citizen when gabe was born. if you have further questions, visit their office.

likewise, parker, alvarado, and taulava were all declared by the DOJ to be filipinos even without enough papers.

i don't remember if doj confirmation was already being asked by the pba then. i think it was only papers in BI, but no doj confirmation. if i remember it right, the doj confirmation became a requirement only mid-2000.

and even if it was a requirement then, that was 1999 bro. before the fil-sham issue spilled its ugly face in the pba, leading to the deportation of alvarado, pennisi, taulava, hatfield, ordonio, etc. gabe's case was only a couple of years ago. doj and the pba were both careful not to make another fil-sham a first-round draft pick. doj could be wrong though. but that's their problem. pba would accept anyone as long as the proper government agencies say their filipinos. they have no business questioning the citizenship of individuals.

his beef is on gabe's citizenship issues. the thread is about norwood.

But that thread provide some good infos concerning the citizenship issues.. especially that he is referring to Taulava, Alvarado, etc...

yes.thank you for posting it. hopefully he'll get the information he may need.

a little bit dated, but again, a fan complaining about norwood's lack of confidence, especially in taking last-second shots.... sayang talaga.... :(

The Gabe Norwood Enigma
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2010

What's so enigmatic about Norwood? Well, he's everybody's favorite player in fantasy basketball. He'll give you the stats. He'll get a lot of interceptions, which in PBFantasy.com are worth 2.5 FPs each. He averages roughly 41 FPs this season. It's still early in the tournament, but last year he tallied around 38 per game. That tells you a lot about his consistency, stats-wise. These numbers made me pick him as my go-to guy for my own fantasy team, the Jack's Street Ballers. The choice was easy; I'll build my franchise around Mr. President. But given the chance in real life, I would hesitate to do so.

However impressive his stats are, Norwood's leadership on the floor has been questioned by basketball analysts and fans. Don't get fooled by the rip-roaring slams because he can do it only when the lane is wide open. During the crucial moments of the game, he will most likely pull back and give the ball to his buddy, Sol Mercado. Even Araña or Chan have better chances of converting on a game-winning shot.

The sad thing is that Norwood is an advocate of loosening up the officiating. I mean, what was he thinking? The new rules have proven to be detrimental to finesse players. For example, James Yap's Llamados are now 1-3 because the team thrives on his nifty moves. You let go of the contacts while Yap is driving, and he'll have trouble getting his points.

The same applies to Norwood. Since he whined about the tight calls of the past, he's bound to suffer for his entire career if the league sticks to this kind of officiating. In that case, I wouldn't feel sorry for him.

a new low in gabe's pba career....

0 points last night against smart gilas.

obviously, he doesn't fit in yeng guiao's system.

wud have been nice if he's wearing the smart gilas jersey as a 6'6" combo guard.

hay,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

are there skills coach in the pba?
it looks like gabe is on his own in terms of improving...
he's not improved since entering the pba...
someone address his shooting. its been like that ever since
not just gabe bit most of the players..
some got impressive and improved but not really..
:o

it looks like american high schoolers are better educated and trained and are better in physical condition(basketball-wise) than most of our pros...

most of our coaches are actually not that technically equipped and are not that updated with the latest scientific methods which improves ones skills.

unfortunately only a few could afford to go abroad in order to attend coaching clinics and camps.
