Gabe Norwood

Norwood is slowly transforming into a marshmallow in ROS. :) good luck.

I Think It started during his Powerade NT day.... What did Coach Yeng do to Him???

not really. remember when yeng and the former rp coaches were deliberating on the line-up, it was said that only norwood got a negative comment (soft and passive).

I do recall Norwood said to the media before, that he is keen to play for the national team after Tianjin... after Tokushima tourney, the national team stint is probably the very reason why he stay in the Philippines and play in the PBL and PBA rather than staying in the US to get a chance in the NBDL or NBA...

His situation back then is kinda similar to Japeth... except Japeth decided to commit himself to the national team (SG) rather than letting PBA bureaucrats control his career...

You can always ask Gabe Norwood if he wants to play for Gilas but it's not within his control..the guy is just getting paycheck from his mother team.

Yup, here in the Philippines especially in the PBA, the players are owned by the teams and they cannot do anything beyond the will of the team owners, even the coaches has no control .... sorry but our players now are indeed "Por Kilo". If you want them buy them .....

are the Welcoat owners can sincerely spare or lend GABE to SMART GILAS?

The thing is bro, are those guys willing to take a pay cut and lose all the perks of being a PBA player for a Spartan Like World Class Training?

and are they willing to jeopardize their livelihood, remember, they might get injured and this might be their only chance to earn that much...

as I've mentioned in the previous thread, would you quit your job (imagine that you are already secured in that post) for an uncertain high risk yet high reward future?........

I guess if you're willing to take that risk, then go ahead.

guys, this is exactly why we blame the organization running the freak show and not the players. it just made sure that no pba player will dare think of joining any SBP-backed NT because if ever one does, that player'll have to deal with a very uncertain future.

I won't. not with this economy...hirap mawalan ng work LOL :))

Well, for me, it depends on the risk.

If I were Gabe, I will jump in and risk it all. No guts no glory.

If I want another crack at the NT, then thats the way to go. Who knows, I might get to play for Euroleague or maybe be scouted by NBA teams? Well, its just me.

Well, the reason why he is here is due to the fact that he does not belong on those leagues, not yet I suffice(euro, nbdl), same with the other Fil Ams and local bred athletes, well it would take them a lot of years and hardwork to qualify or be scouted, so they would rather take the easy big money than gamble on an uncertain future since the window of opportunity to earn, for an athlete is very slim (age 20-30 this would be the peak years in terms of pay)

So instead of chasing for glory, they would rather settle for money, remember that majority of these Fil-Foriegn players are not well to do in their foreign homeland......................

I agree... Gabe should risk it all.. Its one of the reasons that I have such a huge respect for Danny Seigle because he risk it all... he was sorely miss in 2002 Asiad (injured) and he was never the same in 2007 Asian Champs (semi-injured).. but he still play for the RP Team... same thing goes to the likes of the current old timers, Asi and Pennisi... Asi, in particular, was the first player to volunteer when Yeng Guiao was named head coach... he's old and could get injured while playing international basketball yet he still wants to play for flag and country... I guess, he would be among the national team players that could be best remember this decade...

Though, Gabe doesn't have the same option as Seigle and Asi since both senior players played in a PBA-backed RP Team and that their salaries are not affected while Gabe has to give up what he had now just for another RP Team stint not directly control by the league...

But then again, Gabe is not one of those Filipino players who use basketball to carry themselves and their family out of poverty... he's a Fil-Am... surely his parents in the States can give him some extra incentives if the Gilas allowance is not enough..

Anyway, it always goes back to the PBA Board and owners... are they willing to release a player like Gabe Norwood?

Just my two cents...

anyway, hayaan na natin sya, matanda na sya, bahala na sya magdecide sa future nya

translation: Let him decide for his won fate, I hope, whatever consequence his decision would make, he would face it with pride.......

Luckily Seigle was employed by the SMC so his future was atleast secured, but he wasn't able to maximize his playing career (I applaud him for that)

Sidenote: There's aways that misconception that most of the Filipino Foreigners are well to do, or middle class in the Unted States, but that is not the case, example are the Montero Brothers (the actors in the Philippines but were carpenters/construction workers in the US) Sol Mercado, Japeth Aguilar etc......heck my uncle was a lawyer in the Philippines but in the US he's just a 7-11 store merchant....

Good point there Coj, Some are really just after the money not the money. Its up to the person. He can do what he thinks is best for him
