With guys like Gagate, Amos, and Tamayo showing up the past two years, do you think 6’7-6’8 stretch 4s will be the average big men we will produce each generation?

Kai is one of a kind and I don’t see us producing 5 or more 6’9+ big man like Kai or Junemar in the years to come. It’s a matter of luck if any kids get a sudden growth spurt.

with more taller kids with good set of skills, little by little coaches starting to realize that big guards is possible and combo guards, combo forwards is not a impossible to attain.

I think there are some factors why Ping have that high motor and energy, and defense anchoring.

1. Genes - For those unfamiliar, he is actually a Homegrown Fil Foreign. He is half Frances. (His Father is from France) Idk, I feel that france gene have something to do it. NATURE.

2. His childhoold life - I remembered in Kwentong Gilas that he came from porverty. And started working in such a young age to help his family. Growing up in streets, working as a young kid, imo, kinda contributes to his build and attributes.NURTURE.

Will we have a Taller Ping? Hope so, But I doubt it.

Kai, AJ, Carl, Balti are skilled Bigs. Arguably all are more skilled than Ping. But none if them is close to him in terms of Motor and Energy

Yeah he carried sacks of rice as a kid IRC. He is wiry strong. Also he reached his peak after his ACL injury.

An aside, we had the same doctor. I saw him once when I had my post surgery checkup. Humble. He looked like nobody until he stood up. Si Ping pala yun

He'll grow to 6'9"-6'10" at least if he's 6'7"-6'8" at 13. This kid could be a potential low-post big if taught right.

He's only 6'4 and knock kneed. I watched two complete games at MILCU and Hotshots Developmental League. I doubt if he can play past the HS level.

Maybe look at Mark Dulin, the 14 year old son of Marlou Aquino or JA Teodoro.

What's their current height?

In connection with this, how do we develop a 6'6"+ version of Pingris, someone that can anchor the defense and protect the paint?

We'll need athletes that size who can at least give effort in the paint and at the same time, have the versatility to switch on the perimeter.

Now we have. Michael Philipps is now eligible to play local.

Is this official? I think he will be a good complementary big for Kai.

Such news came right after that loss to Lebanon.

Maybe if we lose that game vs. Saudi Arabia on Monday, the next news would be that Kouame is cleared to play as a local for Gilas:cool:

Can anybody point out the words in the article saying Hagop or Fiba eligible? I didnt see it. The title says "Makes himself available" probably means his willing to play even as an NP nothing else.

Michael Phillips on Gilas call-up
"Syempre po, yun po ang dream," said the 6-foot-8 banger, who already has his Philippine passport in tow and is eligible to be a local if ever he gets the invite.

Well, kahit hindi pa sya FIBA eligible, may pang bantay na tyo kay DMX next year sa SEA Games. LOLs

Just saw a few minutes of the game in the 3rd. Demisana was 0 of 7 and a negative plus minus. I guess his offense is not there yet.

Gagate had good numbers but I dont think he can do that against like bigger teams like Lebanon.

Yeah, Gab is kinda raw offensively, that's why Josh didn't play him as much. Still, could have used it for his defense alone.

He is in UPIS right? I hope they train him like a Balti or Lucero type of player. Tall versatile defensive guys are a rare breed for homegrowns, we should nurture them.

Yes, Gab's in UPIS. Yeah, I hope they develop him into an effective versatile defender. Someone who can protect the rim, and also be able to switch and contain guards if needed.

Hopefully we can find more of those types in the near future. Mobile 6'7"-6'8" fours who can switch, or developed to switch and defend.

This is confusing. Are they saying he'll be eligible if he gets invited? That's new

What's their current height?

Dulin, turning 14 in october is now a legit 6'2 with JC Intal skills. Committed to LSGH.
Aquino's son (also born 2008) is around 6'3.
JA Teodoro (born 2009) is 6'2
Prince Carino (born 2009) is also 6'2. Committed to FEU

SBP is an idiot for not working on the exemption of Kouame. He is a game changer especially if he gets paired up with a great naturalized teammate. If he gets classified as a local, we could have a competitive team for at least ten years.
